Hip2Save readers love this trash can❤️

I seriously cannot recommend this enough! My kids have gotten much better about throwing away trash since we purchased one. We’ve had ours over a month – it gets a ton of use, and have not needed to change the batteries yet. It is great for keeping the dog out of the trash. It stops us all from filling the trash bag up too much. Plus you can throw away things like eggshells easily without having to touch the top of the lid to open it!

I’ve had one of these for almost three years (thanks Hip2Save!) and I love it! We don’t have dogs but I can’t imagine a dog getting the lid off of this unless they knocked it over. The lid fits on VERY tight because the backside of the can is not completely straight across. It looks like it’s dented just a bit but it is designed that way to keep the lid on very tight, and it does! As far as the sensor goes, if your dogs figure it out you can turn it off and use it like a regular trash can. HTH!

I have one and love it, unlike what’s pictured, the bag can stay right in the can with the black piece that holds it and it looks even nicer.

I have one I bought almost two years ago. I love it and have had no issues what so ever. Changed batteries once. Bought one for my son as well. I highly recommend it. It actually holds a lot and when compared to similar trash cans this is a deal you can’t pass up.

My daughter got one at Costco for about the same price. She loves it. I was visiting for the week (she lives out of state) and when I got back home, I went to throw something away and waved my hand in front of my garbage can for it to open. Lol! I ordered one for a wedding gift for my niece last time you had it posted. I was cutting it close for when it was to be delivered but it came early. My niece loves hers. My daughter told me you can get an AC adapter for it if you don’t want to put D batteries in it. This time I’m getting one for me. Great price as they’re usually $60 elsewhere.

I have this garbage can and still works and looks great after 3 years.
I am buying another one as a house warming gift.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh wow! Good to know how well it has held up for you, Gina! Thanks for sharing with us!

The automatic opening portion stopped working after 24 hours. They said we’d have to pay to return it, which is as much in shipping as the original cost almost. So, useless warranty, but the can looks nice and we’re still using it (without the auto-opener.)

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! SO sorry to hear about that, Liesl! Thanks so much for the honest comment! We sure appreciate the feedback!

  3. heidi

I’ve had this for about 4 years. Works great.

  4. Jen

Bought this a year ago and it’s been great – although it’s placed near the back door so our dogs’ tails are opening the lid as they come in and out!!

  5. K

This has been a huge disappointment. The batteries die within a week. I wish I had never bought it. I ended up buying the one from Costco and it works a ton better.

    • Mallory

I put batteries in from dollar tree a year and a half ago and they are still going strong

      • Swirlypop

Me too. Dollar tree batteries. They last me a year.

  6. tess

Had mine for over a year and works fantastic!

  7. Melanie

We have one as well. We’ve had it close to a year and have yet to change the batteries. There is a spot in the back that you can use a dc adaptor to plug it in if you wish. Plug was not included. Have to say, I love ours.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks for the helpful tip!

We had one of these but had to get rid of it. Our dog who is a boxer is able to open it. He can open the foot push and top push trash cans.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh wow! We had a large dog when I was little that could get into almost any trash can too! Thanks for sharing!

  9. Molly

Bought this last time there was a deal and LOVE it! Works great and no mess!

  10. Rebecca Judice

Sorry to say mine quit working after about a month. Love the can just wish it worked

    • Liza (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! Sorry to hear yours stopped working Rebecca! Thanks for taking a moment to share your honest feedback!

I have a similar trash can from Costco that I really prefer. It is more expensive but worth it. Costco has a great return policy. That makes more sense when dealing with battery operated items. There is an inner liner for the bag so you don’t have the unsightly bag hanging out like they show on this one. EKO fingerprint resistant stainless steel motion sensor $49.99. I had one similar to the one you are advertising like this for a couple years (may have been a different brand) and the bag outside always bugged me. Whenever I buy something online I make sure to read the return policy. It’s no fun when they make you pay for return shipping when it dies after short time.

I had one for about a month. I wrote back, and they said they would replace it. That was 6 months ago and nothing.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO sorry to hear that, Karen. Maybe try contacting them again. Hoping you hear back from them soon!

I got this can and it arrived dented and the rim was smashed so I couldn’t get the lid on. I’m not sure how it got damaged because the box looked fine. I didn’t want to pay shipping to return it so I just bashed it back into shape with a mallet. It looks a bit worse for wear (I put the ugly side against the wall) but works great, now. I have had it for six months and haven’t changed the batteries yet. I really like it a lot, actually.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Sorry to hear it arrived dented, but super glad it has been working so well after a quick fix!

Is Rakuten the same as Ebates?

I bought one the last time this was posted, I am so glad I bought this it is the best garbage can.

  17. Rachel

Love ours. I use rechargable batteries and they last forever.

  18. Thack

I have had this garbage can for 3 years and it works perfectly. Never even had to change the batteries. I absolutely love it! Buy it!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

SWEET! Good to know how long the batteries have lasted! Thanks for taking the time to comment, Thack!

Hi Hip2save- Thank you for posting this. I have been wanting a stainless steel trash for a while and waiting on a deal. I do want to go with this but my gut tells me this won’t last very long. If there is any deals out there for a stainless steel step on trash that would be awesome! 🙂

  20. Patty

I have this ine and the one from Costco. I like the one from Costco better. It is larger and the bag does not hang out side of the can. Just wait for Costco to put them on sale.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for the helpful review, Patty! We sure appreciate it!
