Kohl’s Offering Free Amazon Returns Nationwide (Starting in July)
Kohl’s just announced that all Kohl’s stores across the country will be accepting free and unpackaged returns for Amazon customers starting in July.
Kohl’s and Amazon started working together in 2017 to pilot a returns program which is currently operating in 100 stores in the Los Angeles, Chicago, and Milwaukee markets.
Starting in July of this year, Kohl’s and Amazon will roll out the program to all of Kohl’s more than 1,150 locations across 48 states. Kohl’s will accept eligible Amazon items, without a box or label, and return them for customers for free, providing additional service and convenience to Amazon customers.
“We are thrilled to bring Amazon Returns at Kohl’s to all of our stores across the country. Amazon and Kohl’s have a shared passion in providing outstanding customer service, and this unique partnership combines Kohl’s strong nationwide store footprint and omnichannel capabilities with Amazon’s reach and customer loyalty. This new service is another example of how Kohl’s is delivering innovation to drive traffic to our stores and bring more relevance to our customers.”
-Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief executive officer
Kohl’s will even package and transport all returned items to Amazon return centers. Read the Kohl’s announcement here.
Doesn’t Amazon ALWAYS Offer Free Returns?
Yes, eligible products can be returned to Amazon using a trackable shipping method including a UPS drop off option where you drop off your return at an authorized UPS location of your choice; however, if you live near a Kohl’s store, this may be a nice option for you!
Interesting, although this is of no benefit to me. My UPS store is right next to my grocery store and Amazon returns via UPS have been free.
Actually it would be of benefit if you don’t have a shipping box to put the item in. UPS stores charge for them depending on the size. I just had to pay $4 because I didn’t have a box to put the item in because amazon sent the item in a huge box with a dozen other things
I return at my UPS store and they package and ship my item for me for free. No need to buy a box or anything. So incredibly easy!
So no return shipping on the items that aren’t eligible for free return now? Because that would be awesome!
This new return option is such a great idea!!!
A great deal if you wanna stand around waiting for a Kohl’s associate to help you
WOW! This is great!
I’ve been doing this for awhile now – Kohl’s is like 5 minutes from me so it is very convenient. In addition, they always offer me a $5 off an in-store Kohl’s purchase every time I do an Amazon return 🙂
Yes! Our Kohls has been doing this for a while and I love it! It’s so easy and quick and then they hand me a coupon when I’m done! So smart
Is this only for items that are marked “Free Returns” on Amazon?
This is what I want to know. I have almost all but stopped ordering things from Amazon unless I am 100% sure I will use it as most things aren’t free returns anymore.
Same here. I hate that if I go to a regular store I have the option to return the item for free but with Amazon I have to pay to ship it back. Guess what? I choose the other stores. I even cancelled my Prime membership when they raised the prices and I haven’t missed it at all!
I was going to say… I have never heard of “free returns”… anytime I’ve needed to return something I’ve always had to pay the shipping back unless the item arrived broken AND I called vs doing self service on amazon.com
They do have done things that are free return at Amazon. I’ve been buying some clothes for my son and only buy the ones that say Free Returns.
Interesting that Amazon chose to partner with Kohl’s. In my experience, I go out of my way to not wait in the Kohl’s return line because my experiences have been that the lines are exceedingly slow compared to other stores. Maybe that’s just around here though. Good to have as an option though, and thank you for sharing.
Same here which is why I scrolled down to the comments to see if anyone was really excited about this.
You must live near me–it takes forever to return at Kohl’s. Much easier to drop off at the UPS Store.
Currently Kohls stores taking amazon returns have a separate line. There is a “Kohls” returns line & an “online pickup/amazon return” line. During the holidays they even created a free standing kiosk away from the returns area just for online pickup/amazon returns.
I live 5 minutes from Kohl’s and the return line is always a disappointment. I have tried going at all times of the day and it seems there is never a good time to go. Maybe people have better luck at other stores.
Must be your store. Mine isn’t ever a long wait.
I’m always at Kohl’s the last hour they’re open (9-10pm on weeknights) & there’s rarely anyone in line during those times….the later you to the better it seems.
While I like this idea, I can’t help but think that Kohl’s would be more successful at “driving traffic to their stores” if they would just make some attempt at having staff that had even an inkling of what good customer service is all about. Granted, that can pretty much be said about all brick and mortar stores currently.
How is this any easier than sending the box back yourself? You either have to go to the UPS Store or Kohl’s for a return…..and UPS Store will always be quicker. I guess it’s a win for Kohl’s since it gets customers in their store.
With Kohls you don’t have to package or label the items you want to return to amazon. You just pick kohls and you get a QR code from amazon then take the item(s) to kohls show them the code give them the stuff and ur done. They even have special “amazon return” parking spaces. At least the ones around here do.
Not everyone has a UPS store, or any UPS agent, to take the returns to. I don’t, and I don’t have a Kohl’s, either, LOL
My strategy is that if there is a chance I might have to return something, like a small appliance, I order from Walmart.com and have them match the price of Amazon (or whatever retailer). I can return the item to Walmart, which is the only store we have in my town. (Even our Kroger’s is gone!)
Is it any item you want to return? Or does it have to say free returns?
I have luck with short or no lines when I get to kohl’s early after dropping kids at school.
Any item. “Free returns” means you don’t have to pay postage if you return by mail.
I think you have to make sure that the item you buy from Amazon is actually SOLD by Amazon, and not another merchant.
I don’t see Kohl’s employees being happy about this dealing with Amazon returns.
At my Kohl’s, it isn’t kohl’s employees at the service desk that you’re dealing with. There is a separate section across from customer service that has a designated desk and employees. I can run in and out of kohl’s to do Amazon returns just as quickly as ups, but without the hassle of having to print a return label.
They are Kohl employees. And only a fools would ship anything without a receipt.
I’m kind of tired of Amazon. They shut down a bunch of cute mom n pop stores. Just couldn’t keep up. 🙁
Not sure about you guys but I have returned a number of items for free I bought from amazon. Just print the label and put it back in box and drop it off at ups. Really easy. Not sure I would use this service at Kohles
Isn’t Kohl’s also partnering with Aldis as well.. ?
Kohl’s lines are the worst- for anything. I rarely shop there except for online. I’ve always had free returns at amazon. No cost to me ever.
All Amazon clothing have free returns which I rarely buy from Amazon. It’s nice for Amazon to have free returns at Kohls but I don’t shop there that much anymore because their prices are actually higher than most local stores (at least for DFW) and there has been so many counterfeit reports that I don’t really trust shopping at Amazon anymore.
I have had Prime for at least 5 years and have NEVER paid to return anything, even the Keto PB I bought last month which was supposed to be no returns, I called and they gave me the credit back and told me to keep it or donate it. That’s always the response I get. If something is below standards you can explain that, it’s ok to complain lol, I love Amazon & their customer service!
Returns are not free unless it’s an item marked free return for any reason( SOME Prime clothes, shoes etc) or for stuff like damaged, defective wrong etc. otherwise return ship and possibly restock fees may apply. So if you have buyers remorse, make accidental purchase, expect to pay return ship.
Does anyone know if you can return something that you purchased from Amazon after the 30 day period. I didn’t know you had to return something back to Amazon within 30 days to get your refund as I have several items I never used or opened that are well past 30 days. Does anyone know if I can return these at Kohl’s. I would really appreciate if someone knew the answer to this question. Thanking you in advance. Love you hip2save
Hi Mary,
As far as I know, no. I’ve been a Prime member for 4-5 years now & I have got stuck in the exact spot too & no… Amazon would not take anything back after 30 days!! I bought Christmas presents for my grandkids & of course it was more than 30 before Christmas & Amazon doesn’t care!!!
Sorry, I totally understand.
Just today before learning this new partnership with Kohl’s I swore I would never order or purchase anything from Amazon again. I am between jobs and do not have a printer in my home. Called Amazon customer service, got a total idiot moron who emailed me a copy of invoice and told me UPS could scan this for my free return. During rush hour traffic went to UPS store whole told me there was no “CODE” and could not return my merchandise. Drove home in rain and more rush hour traffic had to contact Amazon customer service again explain this whole screwed up situation again and eventually received “CODE” to return merchandise. Next day have to drive back to UPS store due to initial incompetent idiot who screwed everything up and inconvenienced me for two days. Happy to hear partnership with Kohl’s. Kohl’s is just down the street from me and they have accommodating hours.
No logic. Amazon messed up, not UPS or kohls
