When was the last time you dined-in at Pizza Hut? 🤔

If you’re like many Americans, you may not be able to remember the last time you actually sat down inside a Pizza Hut and ate under its uniquely-shaped roof. It turns out that most people prefer their P’zones to go!

As a result, Pizza Hut has announced plans to close up to 500 of its older dine-in locations in order to focus on more delivery and carryout-oriented locations. While some stores will transition to the carryout/delivery model, underperforming locations will close permanently.

This move comes as no surprise, considering what other restaurant chains from the Yum! Brands portfolio are doing. Both KFC and Taco Bell have been working to gain a bigger share of the delivery market.

As for the Pizza Hut dine-in experience, it looks like the red booths, the salad bar (one of our favorite features!), and the pitchers of soda may just have to live on in our cheese-filled memories.

Probably around 1988. So many GOOD pizza joints.

  2. Ivan

Haven’t eaten in a Pizza Hut in years, but one big problem for me was they offered great deals for pick up & delivery, but nothing for dine in.

    • Carmen

Yes! We were going to eat at Pizza Hut on vacation… because, well we were on vacation. Why take it back to a hotel room? The dine in prices were ridiculous!!! There was no way to justify spending so much when carry out was so much cheaper. IMO, so stupid of Pizza Hut!

  3. Emily

I haven’t dined in a pizza hut since 2014, so it’s not a huge loss for me.

  4. Laura

Their pizza has gone down hill and rarely gives coupons/discounts.

    • Kitty

      They frequently have deals online

    • Mamamia

They have $5 medium pizza all the time!

  5. Krissy

I love our little rural Pizza Hut! I hope it does’t close! It has a convenient drive thru and everything!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How neat! Ours doesn’t have a drive thru! That would be so convenient!

  6. Ann

Just learned yesterday from the store owner at my local one that they are going to rise prices and charge for cheese and pepper and plates.

  7. Reyna

    Their pizza is nasty anyways!

  8. Jes

Hope ours isn’t one of them, it’s our only option in the boondocks. If we want other options it’s almost an hour drive.

  9. Kandyce

Me and my husband were just talking about when they were going to close. I knew this was coming, nobody eats there like they used to. Too many other options available. Just a sign of the times.

I love Pizza Hut! I remember their pizza buffets (along w/ the salad bar). I’m not even sure if they still do that, but it was fun.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes they do! Mine still has the Pizza Buffet and salad bar. 😊🍕

The PH Salad Bar in Discovery Bay, California was the best! They relocated a decade ago to a very small location and condensed the salad bar 🙁

  12. Peaches

We goto our local Pizza Hut regularly for their lunch buffet. The place is always packed and the pizza is good. It has grown quite shabby over the years though. Such a shame.

  13. Laura

In our town, it’s always cold in the restaurant, dirty, and dark. We haven’t purchased their pizza in a long time

  14. BoyMamato4

We recently lost our eat in Pizza Hut that had a buffet to one that only had carry out and delivery. The pizza has changed. My kids actually told me last time we had it that they never want it again. It used to be my favorite. 🙁

The dough tastes kind of waxy or plastic. Pizza Hut was great when I was a kid, 40+ years ago. They started going downhill in the 90’s

      • Sue

I don’t like their dough either! I always felt like maybe the dough was frozen or something? We usually patronize the locally owned pizza/sandwich shops anyway.

  15. Sunny D

We stopped doing the Pizza Hut thing b/c of their local franchisee. It just wasnt enough to have a delivery fee- now they have a mandatory $15 minimum order.

Much easier to do Marcos without all of the hassle.

  16. Susan31652

Strangely, the last time I actually ate inside a Pizza Hut was 2006 when I was in London on a study abroad trip. It tasted the same as it does here.

  17. SueMP

I suspect ours will be one that closes – the same building has been there for as long as I can remember, and I’m 48….have eaten there many times over the years, but last time was probably 10 years ago.

  18. Amanda

Remember their book-it program? FREE personal pan pizza. Loved it as a kid!

    • Shannon

      My kids elementary school
Still does the book its. We had like 5 coupons that I let expire oops. They are one coupon per visit unfortunately.

      • JaeBee

Mine were expired but the cashier let me redeem it and I used two coupons for both my kids! YMMV

  19. Lori

We love Pizza Hut but only the online deals for carry out. Since papa Murphy’s closed in our area, Pizza Hut is all we have left. Their pizza is delicious!!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I really like their online deals for carryout too!

  20. Christy

We love the lunch buffet! Ours even has a drive thru. Hope we don’t lose it!

Last time was when we lived overseas and the Pizza Hut was within walking distance and we ate there often. They had a full service restaurant with pizza and pasta dishes and it was clean. Their lasagna was good! They had a decent kids play area and everything! That would have been 2014. But the eat in Pizza Hut by us in the US now is gross. We went in it to pick up our book it pizza twice(usually go to a take out location) and it was very dirty and empty. I would not have eaten in there! Their take out locations are a better bet here. The one overseas had not changed, my husband went on a trip there last year and ate at it again for old times sake. 😜

  22. jimk

Haven’t been there since pizza the hut died due to eating himself, 1987?

  23. Lo

Anyone in the ft. Riley area? The JC Pizza Hut had to be an original building and dark but packed at lunch time. Good times lol
My local PH remolded and actually lost space. Our group of ten took up 3 of the 5 tables.

  24. SuzyHomemakerGoneBad

Our Pizza Hut has a strange history, but ended up being newly remodeled and very nice and modern. The pizza at this location is very good, and our kids ask to go there often. I hope we don’t lose it!

  25. Katie

Pizza Hut lost us forever as customers when they nearly ruined a birthday party and lied about it the whole time. Poor delivery guy was doing his best and the store manager was just telling me lie after lie to string me along. The pizza was an hour late and I had 20 little 3 year olds that were so hungry they were heading home (we had it at a public park so no other food to fall back on). I was so angry and even reached out to corporate through an online complaint forum. Corporate eventually emailed me back (about three months later!!) and said they were sending me a free pizza coupon..it never arrived. I won’t give them another penny of my money!

  26. Sarah D.

Actually ate at one just a few months ago because it’s what my kids requested after church one Sunday. It was terrible and the service was nonexistent. No wonder they’re closing so many.

  27. Shelley

We like Pizza Hut but not many people eat at the one by us. Plus the shopping plaza across the parking lot has a Cici’s. We usually get it to go though anyway. We also have Papa JOHNS, LITTLE CAESARS, Dominos and Sir Pizza in the same town. It depends on what we are in the mood for.
