Listened to this book on audible last year. It is very entertaining and Rachel Hollis is very likable, but I didn’t feel like I had any take-aways at the end. No real tips on how to put all the positive energy into action. It was a lot of “you can do it”, but not a lot of “here’s HOW you can do it”. Most people LOVE this book though, so I think I’m in the minority here.

      I felt the same way!

Same. I actually thought it was a bit self congratulating as well. “I had this tough time and I’ve succeeded, so you can too.” Without much tips on HOW not to mention that she has a wealthy husband that supported her along the way so not the average circumstance.

With so many positive reviews I thought I would be the only one who felt that way. I had no take-aways after reading the book so that was disappointing to me. I sure did learn a lot about Rachel though.

Same. Lots of fluff and lacking meaningful how-to. “Think happy thoughts” only goes so far before it starts to feel like toxic positivity. I’ve heard some plagiarism allegations, too…

I feel like she almost got to the point of being condescending. I finished the book but I did a lot of eye rolling along the way.

I have to agree with you. it was a pep talk and i felt less “alone” but i do crave a catalyst for change. Also , i’m not personally Christian so the Christian undertones were a little intense for me.

My theme for September in my Limelife by Alcone group on Facebook is Self-confidence. I posted the link to this book for my customers and friends to check it out!

Awesome! Glad you could pass it along!

I generally don’t like to naysay but I have to agree with the reviews. The book just seemed a lot about her taking about how great she is and hoe great her life turned out despite hardships. I didn’t takeaway. I kind of felt that way about Chip and Jo Gains first book. It’s like they are written to just make money and use their name but the substance wasn’t there. Sadly.

Hi I would suggest the audiobook self esteem 4th ed. by Matthew McKay it offers great ways to train your mind in real tips on maintaining self esteem and overcome mistakes, improving .it only has 3 google reviews but it helped me a lot especially chapter 6

      • Jessica (Hip' Sidekick)

        Thanks for the recommendation, Chollis!

Jolenta and Kristen of By the Book podcast did a great job living by this book. The episode and the epilogue are really fun. After I listed to those I didn’t want to read the book anymore 😁

On sale for a reason. Not a fan. Got my money back from audible.
