If you have student debt with UOPX, you may be affected by news of this settlement!

The University of Phoenix has agreed to pay $50 million in cash and cancel $141 million in student debt to settle a lawsuit stemming from allegations of deceptive advertising. This is the largest settlement the Federal Trade Commission has ever obtained from a for-profit college.

The University of Phoenix is owned by Apollo Education Group and has 55 campuses across the nation. It has thousands of students enrolled in its online programs, and it’s the country’s largest recipient of GI Bill tuition benefits for military veterans.

The advertising campaign in question was launched by the university in 2012, and it implied that the school maintained partnerships with companies like Microsoft, Twitter, and Adobe to create job opportunities for students. An investigation later found that these partnerships did not exist.

The University of Phoenix said in a press release that it agreed to the settlement “to avoid any further distraction from serving students,” adding:

“The campaign occurred under prior ownership and concluded before the FTC’s inquiry began. We continue to believe the University acted appropriately. This settlement agreement will enable us to maintain focus on our core mission of improving the lives of students through career-relevant higher education.”

As a result of the settlement, the University of Phoenix and Apollo will cancel all remaining debt for students who first enrolled between Oct. 1, 2012, and the end of 2016. Anyone eligible for a refund will receive a letter saying that they no longer owe payments to the school.

I was enrolled at Axia UOP from 2009-2014. Have $37,000 in student loan debt. 15% of my paychecks are all garnished. Will this effect me????

Dang, I got all excited hoping I was getting an early Christmas gift. lol I got my degree before those years and I’m still paying on it.

All of my loans there were government funded and I was never even offered a loan through UOP directly. Does that mean my loans aren’t qualified? Sure would help! UOP was expensive!!

I’m trying to invite about this. I was enrolled with UOP in 2015 and cannot do anything with this degree . I received something through mail from them but it was accidentally thrown away. How do I get my loan gone.

Do we have to pay to help with this before our loan is forgiven?
