Disneyland Tickets

A visit to a Disney Park is going to cost you more than ever in 2020. 💰

If you’ve been saving up for a trip to one of the Disney Parks in 2020, it looks like you’ll have to save a little bit more. Disney recently announced that it will be increasing ticket prices for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World this year.

At Disneyland, the increase comes right on the heels of 2019’s big price hike, which saw the cost of tickets increase by more than 10% according to Walt Disney World News Today. The park’s previous three-tier pricing system has also been replaced by a five-tier system, which will offer more choices (and potential confusion) than the original Value, Regular, and Peak ticket prices.

Purchase your Disney tickets at the current prices through February 20th!

Save on Disney tickets

WDWNT also reported that Walt Disney World has increased the price of its annual passes. The only guests not affected by these changes yet are Florida residents, who can still purchase select annual passes to Walt Disney World at the previous rate. However, guests purchasing Florida Resident Annual Passes on the monthly payment plan will now be required to pay a $159 down payment.

Full pricing information for Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL and Disneyland in Anaheim, CA can be found on each park’s website.

If you are planning a Disney vacation this year you can still purchase tickets at the lower price through February 20th.

    Way to go Disney😒

  2. Sunflower

The prices are ridiculous. I’m just going to focus on taking my daughter to different cities and countries. I will spend much less on great memories.

  3. Amy

And why not, people are willing to pay those ridiculous prices, so why not make more profit. Meanwhile, the lines are so ridiculously long, kids tired, crying, parents asking them to smile as they spend $$$ to be in the most magical place. I always feel so sorry for those, who travel from far away.

    • shop4mybabies

while i do find it expensive, i have never been, even over the christmas /new year holiday where it was so crowded we had to wait “too long” for something. we’ve always gotten to do everything we want to do, and multiple times for our favorites. think the longest we have ever waited for anything was 2 hours to meet Elsa and Anna when they were first popular, and as we are all teenagers and older, that’s our own fault lol. I truly love Disney. it’s not something I can easily afford, but I book on costco, i make payments, and for a week for myself and my 22, 20, and 15 year old I just book for 2612 in a 4 star hotel and 5 day park hoppers

      • susan b

We go the week leading up to Daytona. We wait for nothing! Fantastic! 5 minute wait was it and the kids complained the first time – not realizing it could be a couple hours in some cases!

      • JenB

I just went for New Year’s Eve and Day and I kept thinking, “Never again! Never again!” That’s when my aunt and uncle have a time share though…

  4. bobmason

Disney, yuck! We haven’t taken our kids since they were 2 or 3 and it wasn’t even worth it at that time.

  5. jen13289

OUTRAGEOUS…..the 1 day pass with the hopper option, right now is $189.00 for 10+ years old…. I cannot imagine traveling there with a family, even considering they have HUGE restrictions on what can be brought in, the size of your stroller, and carry-ons….the list is endless!!!!! Way to go Disney!!

  6. Klp

Did they say when the increase will happen or did it already?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi there! It seems the price increase is already in effect. Also, the pricing does vary by date. Hope this helps!

      • JJ

they don’t usually announce they are going up, you show up 1 day & voila

  7. rebecca

probably Disney is panicking about making up revenue from closed parks. Hong Kong Disney attendance was already severely affected by the protests that lasted several months, and now with Hong Kong and Shanghai locations closed for who knows how long due to the novel Coronavirus, the corporation is possibly looking to the other parks to take up the slack with raised prices?

  8. Jen

We love Disney and won’t stop going because of price hikes. You get your money worth and we never wait in line. Always fast pass and always dining plan. It’s a breeze when you plan ahead.

    • amy

Wow that’s totally not our experience even with planning. Yes, the 3 fastpasses are nice but after that it’s all 45-90min wait.

      • gray757

Exactly! You get 3 fast passes. Everything else was 60-120 min wait.

        • Casey

You get more once the first 3 are used. Easy peasy.

          • LaDonna

Yep you get more and if you know how to refresh and look periodically what might now have had a fastpass might come up later

            • Chris

Yep – we’re returning from a week-long trip today. By refreshing the MyDisneyExperience app after our initial three fastpasses last Thursday, my better half and I were able to score fastpasses for Slinky Dog (Hollywood Studios) and Frozen (Epcot) on the SAME DAY. Couldn’t believe our luck, and it gave us an excuse to try out the new SkyLiner (loved it) to park-hop.

      • Cherryluva

I agree, have gone 2x and even with planning, very long waits plus food sucks!

      • Jen

It’s unlimited fast passes after you use the first 3. One after another. Super easy.

        • *Angela-Miles*

Jen agree with ya 1000%. Been going since I was a toddler and now that Im an adult, I actually love it more at this age Lol. Being A seasoned planner now we are able to go throughout the parks seamlessly. I’ll be a kid at heart for life LOL!!

    • Heather

Ditto, super planner here no waiting in lines thanks to fast passes their app and my smart phone, had a great time. But we also waited till our son was tall enough to ride all rides, I would not take a toddler to Disney not my idea of fun.

    • dblD amber

I agree. Totally get your $ worth. It was our first time ever last year and with some planning and endless hours of YouTube videos, we had a great experience. Used our fast passes wisely and booked out sitdown meals accordingly. Never did we feel rushed or waited in a line longer than 20 minutes.

    • shop4mybabies

this has always been our experience as well … you get your monies worth and the pure enjoyment i have their with my Madison, Gillian and Emberlin make every single dollar spent worth it

    • Amanda

Agree 100%! We have always had amazing experiences at WDW and if anything is ever sub-par, staff are always very quick to make things right. No rate hike will keep my extended family and I out of the parks. I grew up with DVC and frequent trips, and some of my best childhood memories were made there.

    • Chantel

Completely agree. Be smart about the time of year(we just got back from our trip two weeks ago) and you will have a minimal wait. We were able to go on everything except Rise of the Resistance because of the way they do that ride for now. We waited 25 minutes without Fast Pass for Smuggler’s Run and even snagged 2 fast passes for Flights of Passage. The trick is to wait until the day of. They release extra FP+ at certain times( 11am and 3pm for sure).

  9. Hhotz

Don’t they typically raise their prices about this time every year? I so wish they offered first responder discounts….

  10. sherry

My husband and I went to Disneyworld in 1978 the admission price was $6.00!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Wow! That’s amazing! Thanks for sharing that with us, Sherry!

  11. NV2007

Prices are super high, but honestly… we pay $40 for a small local park that has 1/1000th of what Disney offers. For some, Disney isn’t worth it. For some, Disney is a “one and done” visit or “once in a lifetime.” For others, it’s worth the expense to be all in at one location for everything. I see plenty of screaming and crying kids at the beach (those vacations can cost thousands, too) and everywhere else. While I think the price makes Disney rather unattainable for many, I understand why it’s a fortune.

  12. fly2sky

240 for 2 people for 1 park. It was so not worth it.

  13. brianneb

We go 2-3 times a year for 7-10 days. We absolutely love Disney. We are frugal in every other aspect of our lives so this can be our splurge. People who complain about the price increase and the lines being so long… that’s part of why they increase the prices, it’s a way to help with crowd control, obviously they do it for profits as well but a big part of it is crowd control. Also for the ones who complain about the lines and everything else, it’s because you didn’t research well enough before you went. I researched for probably eight months before we ever took our first trip and trust me it pays off to do your homework. We can go during the most crowded times and still never wait more than 20 minutes for a ride, because we have a full understanding of how the park works and what you need to do first or when to ride certain rides… Disney is not a vacation you wing. I see people every time we go who are complaining because they had no idea about fast passes or they had no idea that certain rides you have to get in line for first thing in the morning or it’s a four hour wait because they just booked their vacation and thought they’d go, & never thought another thing about it. There’s a lot of little known secrets as well on how to save BIG when planning a Disney vacation but again that’s something you’re not gonna know about unless you do your homework before you book your trip. I had a friend who was going to book through a travel agent, yes it’s free to book through them but they’re usually going to try to sell you things you don’t need, and she asked for my help as well…. I saved them over $2000 for their vacation and booked them better things than what the travel agent was going to. So if you’ve never been or you’ve been and had a horrible vacation because you didn’t research, don’t complain.

    • Cherryluva

I disagree, disney is a bunch of money hungry mongrels, even with planning and getting a military discount it wasn’t all that great.

      • Leavesbegintofall

Research for eight months for a vacation at a theme park sounds like the complete opposite of a vacation to me. I love Disney. But you shouldn’t need specialist agents and laminated planners to enjoy it. Im on vacation to not work and run on a minute by minute schedule, plus get nickeled and dimed every second of the day. It kind of takes a lot of the fun of spontaneity out if you have to have every single thing completely planned out.

        • kcmiami88

          Agreed!

      • Jenelle

Brianneb Can I email you please? We are thinking g of planning our first trip to WDW and I’d love to pick your brain if you wouldn’t mind. Or just have you point me in right direction. We are a family of 8, and I’d love to save as much as possible. Thanks!!!

    • Erin

Eight months of research is quite a commitment for a *vacation*. That’s definitely something to factor into the cost of your trip.

      • perfectlyoutgrown

Planning is my favorite part! I’ll have planned for 13 months with our trip this year! It’s so much fun! My kids love to plan with me, too. I use apps to earn money to offset the prices, we stay off property, pack our breakfasts, bottled water, snacks, and lunches and give my kids a gift card with spending money for every birthday/holiday so once we’re there, they’re all set. We spend hours watching Tim Tracker videos that gets us even more pumped up. We’re already counting down the days to go again!

        • Karen Richardson

I agree perfectlyoutgrown. A Disney World vacation requires planning and researching. There is no way that I would go to DW and not have a plan of action. I am a DVC member as of 2019 and I plan vacations 11 months in advance. Before that, I would stalk the website for special offers. The price increase is around $20 and so not out of line really. Universal P2P tickets are more expensive that WDW tickets. Bottom line is that no one is forcing anyone to go anywhere. Yes, it is very expensive but with some planning and saving anyone can go and have a wonderful time.

    • JJ

these price increases don’t seem to affect their business, we were there last February midweek (not Presidents Day week), Magic Kingdom absolutely packed, 60-120 minutes waits without Fastpass

    • Joni

I agree. You have to plan far I advance for Disney but to me it’s worth it. I go every few years. I used the travel agent though and didn’t care about the extras because it’s an experience!

    • Vivenne

Since you are regular and know the ends and out and my first time going in 25 years taking my little ones 3 & 5 who love princesses. NOt sure they would like to do rides? I want them to see the princesses the parade, the fireworks. Anything else you would recommend? We are going in April.

      • Chantel

Lots of rides your little girls will love. Magic Kingdom is THE park for the littles. Rides in Magic Kingdom that one or both of you girls would love include: Flying Carpets, Pirates of the Carribbeans(one small drop and then animatronics and music, Haunted Mansion(a little spooky but not really scary), Dumbo(the line is an open play area and you get a pager!), Barnstormers, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for the older girl, Winnie the Pooh, Small World, Peter Pan’s Flight, Tea Cups, Journey of the Little Mermaid and so many more! I highly recommend that you book with Bibbidi Bobbidy Boutique in Disney Springs. Bring your own dresses, get the cheapest package($65 includes hair, makeup nails and you get to take everything used on them home in a special bag)and purchase Memory Maker. After the girls are made over then you can walk over to the Photo Pass photography studio a short distance away( I believe it is next to World of Disney and is not the one with the carriage at the salon). You can get all kinds of photos there with endless backdrop options and it is free if you purchase memory maker!

    • PrincessMom

You’re so right!! I love Disney, going to Disney parks was part of my childhood that I’m looking forward to experiencing with my child. I am already starting research for a trip that’s still a couple of years away—we’re going to make sure we make the most of it!

    • Em

Can you share where you do research? Someone before mentioned you tube videos. I’ve looked up Pinterest articles. You sound like a pro, so I’d love to know some of your resources! 🙂

      • Sarah

Get a travel agent. We are free and essential for a Disney vacation.

      • Chantel

Em, go to all ears.net for articles. I love Disney Food Blog on You Tube as well. You can find menus for all the restaurants with prices on allears or on the Disney parks site. There are lots of ways to save money. My family is military so we get discounted ticket( up to 6 days with park hopper for around $250), Memory Maker for $99(you get all the digitals of photos taken by photographers on Disney property. You can also go to Disney Springs and get photo shoots/family portraits with different backgrounds!) and if we wanted to we could stay at the MWR owned resort Shades of Green which is a former Disney resort just a five minute walk from the Polynesian for cheap! We are Disney Vacation Club members though so we stay on property and enjoy deluxe accommodations. Want to save on Deluxe? Rent points for those DVC properties through David’s Rentals or DVCrequest. Staying on property has perks like free and easy transportation from the airport with Magical Express. You never touch your luggage, it just appears in your room! You also can use various options of free transportation getting around Disney property so you never need a car. That can save a ton not just on the car rental but also for the parking that the resorts and parks charge. I also recommend that you research the food options. There are plenty of quick service places where you can eat a real meal instead of just burgers and fries. Columbia Harbour House in Magic Kingdom and Flame Tree BBQ in Animal Kingdom are very popular. At Epcot good food is everywhere. You can get German Mac and Cheese and a huge Bratwurst at Sommerfest, a kiosk right next to the check in for Biergarten. Avoid eating at the China pavilion there. It has the worst food of any of the pavilions. It is mall quality food. If you want a princess character meal you can save a good chunk by booking at Akershus instead of Cinderella’s Royal Table. They have an all you can eat salad buffet too so you can really fill up if you want. I need to stop now because this is already a book, lol.

  14. Mporter

Went to Disney once and that was enough. IMO for a little over $100 I can get a season pass to Cedar Point! Its the best amusement park on the planet! Bonus for me, an hour drive from home!!

    • Krissy

Have you heard of Holiday World?! That amusement park is amazing!! Shouldn’t be terribly far from you either! 🙂

      • LaDonna

Holiday world is so awesome I wish I lived closer!

        • Maria G

I agree, Holiday World is awesome. It’s located in Indiana, tho. Not a tourist destination. However, there are so many rides, for all ages. Plus a wonderful water park. All included in admission price of under $50/day; 2 day under $70.

          • Michele B.

We live about 2 hours from Holiday World and always have a great time! Last summer I got the kids tickets for $19.99 and adults 29.99 through a promo!

    • Ashley

Disney is better because you can go year round. I used to go to cedar point (lived just outside of Sandusky) but honestly roller coasters are cool but I much prefer Disney’s dining and entertainment options. Now I live in Florida and it’s a good value for our family because it is only 2 hrs away

  15. Lisa

I like how you say that they “announced ANOTHER ticket price increase.” Something wrong with that. Not the happiest place on earth. 🙁

  16. Sarah

My friend just brought her 3 kids and she said she and her husband spend most of the time arguing about tips for the meals with the dining plans lol 18% tip for over $200 buffet for breakfasts each morning. And thanks just breakfast 😬. They spend $7500 for 7 days… no thanks lol

    • brianneb

They were doing a lot of things wrong if they spent $7500 for 3 people for 7 days. On average we go 10 days, 5 people, airfare, park tickets, hotel on property, food (& we usually do 1 character meal every day), souvenirs (& we bring home a ton), everything…& we only spend $5,00-$5,500

      • NV2007

They aren’t necessarily doing anything wrong spending $7500… you have no idea where they are flying from, when they travel (not everyone can travel at the less expensive times), some folks prefer deluxe resorts (we do if we can afford it), etc. While I agree with your previous point that Disney takes a lot of planning and research, Disney has changed A LOT over the last 30 years. The fact that you literally have to plan out everything to get the most time for your money and most bang for your buck is REALLY annoying now. Disney was never like that years ago. And while it’s a great improvement in some areas, it really stinks in others. I’ve been about 20x traveling from the North East (so it’s only a 2.5-3 hour flight). We generally go at off-peak times because we try to escape the cold. I know Disney in and out (though I’m sure there are PLENTY of tricks I don’t know), but it’s still not a $5k trip for us because of how we choose to do Disney. That’s the thing – you can stay for $100 a night or $700 a night (and beyond). You can dine for $100pp or $10pp. It’s really how you do it and what you like. If you spend $7500 because you planned poorly that’s one thing, but some folks do just end up spending $10k on a week because that’s how they choose to do it.

And FWIW, I do think the ticket price is worth the cost of admission but it’s really frustrating to have to map out your trip to the smallest detail to make it all work as smoothly as possible.

        • Ashley

My family of 3 do 4 nights plus Disney dining for about $2000-2500. Pretty reasonable considering it is all inclusive and we live close so airfare isn’t a factor. Thinking about doing a Disney Cruise soon too- our now family of 5 can do 4 nights for 4,000- again not bad considering the all inclusive nature of it

        • vivenne

Can you give me feedback my daughters 3 & 5 love princesses and first time going from 25 years ago. Not sure they would like the rides? Thinking to take them to the princess castle, parade, and fireworks. Any other suggestions? Hotels I know you mentioned $100 night what are some hotels or some dining that is not expensive. Trying to save $ and not go overboard. TIA

          • Hanna

Hi! We went for the 1st time this past September. Took our daughter for her 3rd bday. We rode rides that basically didn’t have a height requirement because I wasn’t sure she was tall enough. The only height requirement ride we did was Kali River Rapids and that’a because I overlooked it and thought there wasn’t a requirement. But thank goodness she was tall enough. Line waits weren’t too bad. Used fast passes (you can pick 60 days before you go if you stay onsite and 30 days if offsite), so that helped. She loved all the rides. How many days do you plan on staying there and do you plan to go to all the parks? We stayed about a week, but only did 4 park days, 1 park each day, just to be able to experience each park. We did stay onsite and got the dining plan, so we actually looked for the most expensive things on the menu to make the dining plan worth it lol. We went to Cinderella’s Royal Table (castle) and she met 5 princesses there. We also did BBB (bibbidi bobbidi boutique, which is like the makeover thing they do. We brought her dress from home, and she got her hair, nails, and makeup done. Got the chrapest package (like $65 i think). You can opt to buy a dress there, but those packages are more expensive. Then did a photshoot thing afterwards (free). Lots of our meals were vharacter meals where she got to meet princesses and stuff. Firworks i think we only stayed one night to watch fireworks. Depending on when you go, they do close the park early because of special ticketed events. They had 3 mickey’s not so scary halloween party (MNNSHP) during the week we went, and it just so happened our MK day, we had to leave by 6pm since qe didnt have a ticket to the party. We went to the party a different night, so that was the night we watched fireworks i believe. You can also do swagbucks, ibotta, fetch, and other money saving apps to help save. Swagbucks I was able to get a couple hundred dollars and bought visa gift cards, which i then used to buy discounted disney gift cards at sams or target. Hope some of this helps. Oh, our whole trip cost about $3,500 for me, my husband, and daughter, but thats cuz we did onsite and dining plan basically. Probably cheaper to stay offsite and bring/pack lunches/food.

      • ava

I don’t think it’s fair to tell someone they did something wrong without knowing the facts. She didn’t even specify disneyland vs world, prices for flights to/from the various cities and accomodation prices can be significantly different in those states, especially for a family.

      • kristi

You say that, but I wonder where you are flying from. Even with the best flight deals it would cost my family of six $2500-$3000 just in flights. And flights that cheap are nearly impossible to find.

      • mamasweetpea08

i would point out that it looks like it was for 5 people not 3. Friend, husband, and 3 kids. As others have mentioned, there are many other factors that come to play including where they are traveling from. But, I think we can all agree on one thing and that is that Disney vacations are not exactly the most affordable vacation. We got to experience a Disney cruise, and although it was so much more compared to other cruise lines, everything was done really well, and we had a great time

      • LaDonna

Briaanneb I would love to know how your family of five is doing it with staying on site, character meals, souvenirs and flying etc for 5000 for 10 days I consider myself pretty frugal when we go to Disney and always go close to the cheapest way possible we have five people right now luckily one is two so we can still get into one value resort but next year we’re gonna have to get at least two rooms and even with free dining if its offered for about 7 days it’s going to cost us around 5000 and that’s driving from Georgia no souvenirs Fyi this year we’re doing free dining five of us in an all-star room 7 days and it was $3200 total and that was for beginning of September one of the cheapest times

        • Kare

LaDonna, you may want to look into renting DVC points to stay in a villa rather than a value resort. You can rent a 1br villa at Animal Kingdom Lodge or Kidani(the 1br has TWO bathrooms at Kidani) for around the price of a moderate resort. You can buy tickets through Undercover Tourist for savings over Disney direct prices, and you can buy Disney giftcards at Target for 5% off. Also, if you go every year then you may want to check into getting an annual pass. AP discounts on rooms can be as much as 40% off. Sometimes the room discount is better than free dining.

          • LaDonna

Renting dVC points is the Only thing I’m not fluent in LOL….. our last trip was paid almost the entire thing on gift cards doing the target and Kroger fuel points actually usually save us more money when they have four times the fuel points on gift cards Yes I do believe you’re right for 5 PortOrleans riverside is the cheapest way to go versus 2 values……. we might have mother-in-law with us next year so that’ll be six people and I think at that 2 values are cheaper(Actually her coming might save us just a few hundred dollars after she chips in her part) renting DVC points I wonder if that would be better though than the two values I do need to look into that. I’m thinking my husband can get tickets at work slightly cheaper than touring plans……. I got a lot of Disney homework to do this year for our trip for 2021 that’s for sure…… getting APs is our dream just really hard to chunk up all that money upfront and then I know we will feel like we have to go at least 3 times if we get them lol

      • dblD amber

Really depends. We only stay at the Grand Floridian and it much more than a value resort. Without knowing all the variables we cannot judge. I would say for a family of 5 that is a reasonable price

    • shop4mybabies

uh they were definitely doing something wrong…the most i have ever spent was 7500 for 9 days for 5 people and that was because our airline tickets were outrageous due to traveling christmas to new years. my typical week with 4 or 5 of us is about 3500 including airfare, food, hoteland 5 day park hoppers.

      • NV2007

No, they really aren’t “definitely” doing something wrong. Again, maybe they are doing things DIFFERENTLY but that doesn’t mean they are doing it “wrong.” And FWIW…

I’ve played around with pricing out our next trip and the cheapest I could price it at the least expensive on property room available ($130/night) was $3300 for 6 nights and this only includes the room, tax, and 5 day park hoppers. It includes NOTHING else. This does not include food, extras like memory maker, no airfare. So while you may be able to snag deals (esp renting DVC points – or free dining – or a 40% off deluxe room promo, etc), a $3500 all-inclusive on-property stay for a full week for a family of four is absolutely not the norm. Flights, at their lowest from our area – at their LOWEST – will generally run $1100 or so for our family of four. That’s the “buy now” rate for us. There’s zero chance, unless we stay off property, of us filling in the rest of our expenses for the trip for $2400 for a full week. I really take offense to the folks that make comments like this (sorry!) and make others that plan trips (probably unintentionally) feel like they are poor planners or being “taken.” They definitely are not, as most trips with airfare will not be in the $3500 range for a family of 4 or 5 for a full week.

        • Ashley

It is not Disney’s fault what the airlines are charging you.

        • Chris

We’ve been going for 17 years and the costs people are citing are way outta whack. You don’t go during peak times, you go when there are ticket deals, you take advantage of them letting you bring food and drink in, and you stay at a very nice off property hotel that includes shuttle service. I’ve paid the price of an on property value resort for gorgeous high end resorts with transportation. As others have said, planning and research make a huge difference. I laugh every time people say it’s too expensive and long lines, they aren’t doing the planning and research, or using the fastpass system to its fullest.

      • savvyshops

We have 3, going in May and I need some tips, without airfare 4/5 days I’m looking at about 4300, so what is your secret?

        • Chantel

Where do you want to stay, what kind of tickets do you need? Ages, food needs, etc?

  17. brianneb

Also those of you that are just looking at 1 day tickets, that’s where Disney gets you. When you book 4 days plus the price per day is less. The difference in say going 5 days vs 6 days or 6 vs 7 is only about $20 to add on another day at the parks

  18. iamkris10

We won’t go back for a few years probably, but at these prices especially, do your research. Our last trip was virtually flawless, but we (meaning I) did SO. MUCH. RESEARCH. and planned meticulously. If you don’t have time for that, you can buy your way to an improved experience (such as after hour parties, etc), but that’s really out of reach for most folks. If you do go, plan in time to…well… plan.

  19. Katie

We live 45 min from Anaheim and it costs up over $1k for ONE day (2 adults 2 kids) of admission, parking and 2 frugal meals. No, that’s not ridiculous at all 🤬

    • Carleenx18

The $104 days are the best, typically low crowds and you can get away with spending less than 700$ 416 tickets 200 meals 25-30 parking 25 gas You can even save 5% if you buy Disney giftcards at target.

      • Carleenx18

Arg, this wasn’t supposed to be a run on, I broke it down by line… Sry!

  20. Mamarenie

    Yikes!!!!
I wonder what it would cost for my family of eleven? 9 kids and 2 adults.
No way I could ever afford it. Heck, I’m still saving for a honeymoon twenty years later.. 😬.

  21. MaK88

I just imagine Walt Disney is rolling in his grave. His idea was a magical land affordable and attainable to every child regardless of how little money they have. Just…sad…..

  22. Angie

The way I look at it, by raising prices they remain profitable, while reducing crowds because people have limits on how much they’ll pay. And it’s not just Disney. Many attractions, especially those geared towards children, are no longer within the financial reach of many families, and it’s getting worse at an accelerated rate.

    • MV

This is the exact point. People are complaining about the prices and the crowds simultaneously. You have to choose one. Because if everything was cheaper, more people would come and it would be even more crowded.

  23. Casey

Go to UndercoverTourist.com and buy tickets at old pricing until they run out! Tickets at Work has them too, if you have access!!

  24. Gio

Ticket prices are ridiculous. The park hopper optionn isnt even worth it. Takes forever to get from 1 park to the other anyways.

    • Casey

Everyone tours differently! For us we take a resort break between hops. With the addition of the Skyliner it is easier to move between Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Hopping definitely is not for everyone, though!

    • NV2007

It entirely depends on which parks you are hopping between… and what the crowd levels are. Park hopping is excellent if you wish to visit MK but then dine at World Showcase at Epcot at night. Or you want to go to one park in the morning, take a break at the hotel, and hit up another park in the evening. There are many reasons beyond this that make hopping a reasonable option for many. It’s definitely not worth it for everyone, though.

  25. Karri

We have taken our kids to Disneyland, Disney World, and on a Disney Cruise. I like the cruise the best for young kids say under 6 or 7 lots of character and lines not to long and the private island is wonderful. The parks are better when they can make it through the day without naps. Just my opinion. You do you.

    • ATM

I agree with you, we love Disney world but imo DCL is much more relaxing for everyone 🙂

  26. melinda

So if we have already booked, this shouldn’t affect us, right?

    • Casey

      Correct!

  27. Naayomee

I was talking to a resident near Disney World and he said that by law they can only raise the prices a certain amount every year. They’re going to continue to raise the prices yearly. They spend millions on fireworks alone.

  28. dblD amber

Yes they did. We went last year and just booked our trip for this coming year. Basically booked the same vacation again same hotel same dining plan and same duration and it was $1000 more this year. Went from $4700 last year to $5740 this year. Needless to say it will be the last time for a long time.

  29. patricialavenz-goff

I don’t understand the disney hype. I am glad my kids aren’t interested in Disney. We go to Europe every year which is cheaper and more educational in my opinion. Growing up we went to Neuschwannstein which is as close to Disney that I ever got. LOL My favorite as a child was Trier. I loved the amphitheater.

    • Disney

i don’t think i could get a trip to Europe for the price I can go to Disney. Flights would kill it ! We stay at a Deluxe resort, usually pay oop for meals, and have annual passes. Food & Wine is one of our favorite times to visit-and Christmas-and Flower and Garden Festival- and for our birthdays- oh and anniversary.
We love WDW. We live 15 hrs away and our airport has no direct flights but it is worth it.

  30. Carleenx18

Disney isn’t just a theme park anymore, it’s an experience… the Imagineering that’s involved is amazing and every new ride/land costs millions if not billions of dollars. When it comes to price hikes, you also have to factor in mandatory wage increases, utility increases, inflation… Disney has to remain profitable for shareholders, it’s a sad reality, but at least we’re not getting a watered down experience for more money. ( in reference to DisneyLand, no idea about DW)

  31. LaDonna

Disney’s pretty much in my blood I’ve been going for about 17 years now and I love it and it….has changed a whole lot itused to be a lot more affordable it also used to be a lot “easier” to go……I’ve always been a tedious planner anyways But it’s almost(I say almost because I still love the planning) too much for me nowadays having to book your dining six months out you have to figure out what parks are going to be able to get the most out of your day etc and now your fast passes 60 days out and that’s only if you’re staying on site if you’re staying offsite and try to save money so you can go to Disney you’re probably not gonna have any luck getting those hard fast passes, if you get there before opening though when you don’t have the fast passes you should be able to get on standby line pretty quickly……. just a whole lot of planning to get your moneys worth that’s for sure……. watching those Imagineering videos on Disney+ now I told my husband man it is a lot of time and effort put into making these parks and keeping them up! When I watch those then I think the price tag isn’t that bad I think definitely Disney still doable but not if you’re just going for a day or two it’s just way too expensive….example we have a seven day trip planned, we decided we could swing one more day in the parks and it was only like $35 for four of us to add one more day of park tickets that’s not 35 a piece that’s 35 total!

  32. Val

If you live in Southern California they have a pass for $200 for three days to any park but must use before 5/21/20. This brings each day to around $67 a day. I may plan a trip with my family before it will be unaffordable!! We love Disney!!

    • Carleenx18

My husband and I took advantage of this promo and then became annual passholders! They applied the cost of the SoCal resident ticket to our annual pass too!

  33. Juliette

For our family of 5 we got to disneyworld once a year and stay on property and get free dining and fly for free with southwest points. we spend $3800 for food and stay for 8 days and then free airfare. Cant beat that. Disney makes it so easy to travel with kids and it is so worth it! My kids are way to young to appreciate another country and its history so disney is our place to go now. we have become a little obsessed!

    • Lauren

I’m glad you’re having a great time with your Disney vacations! What makes you think your children are too young to enjoy visiting another country?

  34. BECCA233

I grew-up with Disney in my backyard and it still is today. I tell my grandkids all the time how lucky they are to get to go to Disney every week if they choose. Walt’s intention for the parks was for all families and I know today’s cost deprives a lot of the average families of the opportunity to make those memories.

  35. Gramma C

Asinine. I finally bought passes last June and we have only been a few times. It is no longer fun. It literally takes an hour to park ( after driving two hours and sitting in the smog infested parking structure for half and hour or more just to get in to park ) get to the tram, go through the stupid security line ( stupid because there is zero consistency- some barely look at bags and some look in every nook & cranny ) and than the line to get in. THAN it’s packed inside. Always. I hate Star Wars land. It changed the crowd and the entire dynamic of the park. It should have been at DCA. The only people I see still praising Disneyland are the local pass holders who have also taken over and congested the parks. People coming in like daily, just hanging out with their toddlers, doing homework, reading books. Yes I’m very bitter. Also Disneyland used to be very handicapped friendly and now it literally seems like everybody has a scooter when you know damn well they don’t need one and everybody has a red tag on their stroller even though good majority of them do not have handicap kids. And yes I feel like I can say that because we have two handicap kids in our family and just because your child can’t stand still in line doesn’t mean you need a red tag.

  36. Roro82

We are Disney World pass holders and were just in Disneyland last year. We always say they have to raise the prices cause there’s way too many people, whoever really wants to come, will do it.

  37. Katie

Get Away Today has the old price until February 20th! I used to work there and they are awesome!!

  38. Csandst1

I don’t think it’s worth the money. Cruises are cheaper and more relaxing. We took our kids 6 years ago. We bought 4 5-day park hopper tickets. Cost was around $2,000 for tickets. The only reason we took our kids was because I had enough Disney dollars to pay for the tickets so they were free and I had a few hundred Disney dollars leftover. We rented a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom townhouse. It was beautiful and cost around $850 for the week. We still ended up spending around $5,000. Luckily the kids have never asked to go back. We asked a few times and they weren’t interested.

    • Sheila

Agreed. It’s definitely not for everyone. We took our 6 and 8 year old last year. Being cramped into places like sardines was definitely not for them. Give my kids an island vacation over Disney any day.

  39. Jill

I’m glad I’ve never had to pay to go there. I was raised in central FL and I always new someone that worked there. I have no desire to ever go again. Crazy wait times and over crowded. My kids have been many times there dad worked there for years.

  40. Bbbsarah24

Maybe hip2save can start doing a post of different travel options rather than Disney. Sad they are increasing so much. My mom said that they probably didn’t spend $7,000 on their combined three disney trips for our family of five.

    • C

@bbbsarah- that’s probably bc their target market was originally “middle class” (or upper middle) families … now their target market is upper class (albeit you wouldn’t know it lol)… and also ppl are willing to pay the prices so they’ll keep charging them (heck there are even ppl shelling out $2000 for a few hours with a private guide!)… I think another issue is the regular prices are used to subsidize the local ones (and all the free passes employees get)… I don’t think they had local passes say in the 1990s… honestly aside from military discounts (which they pay about half for a normal ticket), I think they should get rid of discounts- most if not all locals can afford to pay the normal annual price and I assume they all would (I know a lot of ppl who only go twice a year and they say the annual price is worth it as it’s cheaper than paying out for the tickets… so for a local who probably goes every week (some every day!), the annual pass would be cheap at a per day rate when divided up

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the suggestion! Have you seen this post on vacation budget hacks?

      • Bbbsarah24

No I haven’t, but I did see the vacation with nanny trip ya’ll posted. How cool is that. I’m definitely with the others that I wouldn’t leave my kids, but who neat to have a local helping out. Kids could probably learn a lot from that opportunity!

  41. C

I don’t understand why they don’t raise the very discounted “local resident” prices- I get one of Disney’s goals is to keep parks packed and overcrowded (but within fire law limits), but TBH I think ppl who visit the park every week can definitely afford to pay a lot more… in fact I think most if not all locals would be willing to pay the regular annual pass price … and especially for them it’s worth it if they go every week or even every month…. also I would say in Orlando universal was soooo much better in every way when we went (better and more food options, better designs overall, better transport, cutting out line cutters unlike Disney, shorter wait times and single rider lines on a lot more of the rides (and where you could enter the single line immediately vs Disney where you wait until you’re almost there anyways to get in the single line; albeit Disney Europe is a lot better imo and has a lot more single rider lines than DW), the staff was sooooo much nicer at universal, universal was crowded, but it was a lot easier to get places and wasn’t as crowded or didn’t feel as crowded, no crazed parents running ppl over with their 500 lb strollers either, etc)… our experience was SO bad at DW they gave us passes to come back in the future! (Which the customer service person said they almost never do, but when we complained about our experience including some crazy staff member he was like yikes!)… idk if we will ever go back though…

  42. Erin

Does Hip2Save have any posts about how to save at Disney? Or anyone else that could point me in the right direction to get started? We have never been & the whole process feels so overwhelming that I keep putting it off

  43. Mary

All the planning in the world doesn’t stop the rides from sucking. But then, I live within driving distance of cedar point, so perhaps my standards are too high. Also, I felt really sorry for all those poor starving actors in costumes with makeup dripping off their faces! I think those people could smile through childbirth.

  44. ddallavalle

I was planning on going next week for a day or two. No planning just stopping by on our way home from south FL. Would that be crazy? I didn’t know I was supposed to plan the trip a year in advance.

    • Ann

I would strongly advise against it. My husband and I did this exact thing the first week of December, middle of the week, and we spent around $350 to ride 5 rides at Animal Kingdom. I will not be going back any time soon, and I grew up going to Disney every year. It was an awful experience. If you don’t plan ahead, Disney is a time-sucking money pit.

    • Angela

We are going next week. We did make some arrangements in advance due to traveling from the Midwest to Florida. 🙂 We do not have fast pass, the app, or anything special. We are just going to enjoy what we can enjoy and see what we can see. No stress. Tickets were expensive, but we are looking forward to our time in the parks. We know we won’t see everything and that is fine with us. I say go for it, stop by, see what you can see, but know you won’t see everything and if that is okay then it sounds like a fun plan.

  45. KevRuff

A tip that I have for everyone when using the app. Get an outside person (I.e friend of family member) to share your plans with on the app. They can then get you fast passes from popular rides if they pop up. When you have all your fast passes set, you can’t see any other availabilities, so an outsider can really help you out. I was able to get the new Flight of Passage ride the day before I went! Totally worth it!

  46. E

What are the websites people go on to save money at Disney and plan out rides? We are going to legoland in March because my kids are obsessed with legos. I literally go back and forth in my head daily whether we should do Disney or not. It’s $543 for one day passes for our family. My kids are young and unpredictable, don’t really know many Disney movies and my 2 yr old is freaked out by costumes/hats/helmets. It would be a once in a lifetime thing, quite frankly, and we are leaning towards waiting a few years. If it wasn’t so stinking expensive for one measly day, then I would go. My husband wants to go, but I don’t really!

    • marci

If I were you, I’d wait until your kids are older. I went with another adult and we had the time of our lives, but I would have never taken my 3 year old. Tons of little kids having meltdowns.

  47. Materof6

Any thoughts on how it is possible for a big family (9 total, one infant) to do Disney? At around $5k for 3-4 days? IS that even possible? Lol!

  48. daisycarrasco

I feel bad seeing so many negative reviews. I know not everyone lives near one or has the ability to go all the time but I live 4 hours away and just got an annual pass this year. We pay $50 a month per person (family of 3) we have gold. Did not go for platinum because we don’t like waterparks very much. If you are fortunate enough to live near by its well worth the price. If we go to 8 parks in one year we have paid our annual pass. We went in January for 1 day. February 2 days. Next visit is spring break for 5 days. There is our 8 days and that’s only up to March. Parking is included so that saves $25 for parking each day. Plus discounts on merchandise and food. And my all time favorite is the photo pass included in the annual pass. Plus the extra goodies at Epcot every time they change their theme. Now with the annual passes we don’t rush thru the park anymore. We take our time. Taking 2 days if necessary to do the park. We get 3 fast passes for one day and then 3 for the other day. We sit down at one of their restaurants and try something new. No rushing around anymore, just enjoying the magic of Disney. Even with the price increase we will be renewing.
