Just like Costco, Sam’s Club is taking extra steps to continue to support social distancing inside stores in order to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

In addition to visual markers to support the 6’ social distancing guidelines, Sam’s Club is now also encouraging no more than 2 people per membership card to enter the club at one time.

In addition, Sam’s Club has made the decision to reduce the occupancy limit for all clubs and no more than 300 members will be permitted in the club at one time. Note that there will be exceptions in clubs aligning with current government mandates that are fewer than 300 members.

This new policy was announced in a news release and on the Sam’s Club Facebook page. As a reminder, Sam’s Club also recently enacted special senior shopping hours and a new concierge service where vulnerable members can choose to shop from their car during these hours.

Yesterday I picked up an online Sam’s Club order. Because I have a chronic health condition I called the store and they were able to bring it to my vehicle. However, if you purchase alcohol (I bought a bottle of rum!) you do have to go inside the store.

I think it’s kinda ridiculous and there needs to be exceptions. What about single moms with young children? I asked at Sam’s club and they said there were no exceptions. I have single parent friends with little kids and no one to leave the kids with. I offered but I work in the hospital so she’s scared and can’t afford babysitting.

Order at Walmart or Kroger (they are waiving their pick up fee) until this settles down.

      • Jenna

Yeah, but it’s almost impossible in my area to get a time slot for pickup and if you can get a slot it’s 4-6 days out so if you really need something fast your out of luck.

        • Ms

Which grocery stores still offer delivery with 4-6 days out? I would love to be able to order delivery even with a few days out. Unfortunately, I have yet to find any available grocery delivery time slots (for fresh produce, eggs, milk, etc.)

In reply to Ms I order through Walmart grocery, it always says there is no delivery available for the next 7 days but how I’ve been able to order is wait til midnight and I see spots open for next day (for example if I order around 12:34am on a Wednesday I can see slots open starting at 8am Thursday). Hope this helps!

              Thanks!

Unfortunately, Walmart grocery don’t deliver to my area.

            Publix delivers via Instacart.

            • Ms

Thanks. I just checked Publix/Instacart don’t deliver to my area.

The only store that allows you to pay with food stamps is Walmart. So this may be an option for some people, it isn’t for everyone and at least where im from there aren’t ever any time slots

I know these are challenging times and single parents have really got it rough! A possible solution depending on who you can tap to help would be to drive to Sam’s with your kids and have your friend follow behind. They would then stand outside of your car or park beside your car if possible making sure your kids are safe while you run in. It might take some coordination but remember that you are also preventing your kids from getting this terrible virus.

      • Lindsey

What a great idea! Obviously not ideal, but nothing these days is, and I think it’s so great you thought of an optional solution for single parents afraid of letting other adults near their kids. ❤️

Good thing it is not too hot outside right now to leave kids in the car.

    • E

Many places you can’t leave kids in the car at all. Don’t give people ideas like that. Parents have lost custody of their kids for doing that in some places.

I’m happy to see these restrictions. I grocery shopped for the first time in two weeks today. Saw multiple families shopping together (two adults with small children) and many groups of adults shopping together. I realize I don’t know the unique situations of each family in the store, but there is no way they all needed to be out in such large groups.

    • SueJo

Exactly! I was in Sam’s today and moms and dads were shopping with all their children running and skipping around the store. This is why stores are having to do this! Some people are using grocery shopping as their new family activity.

Make sure to download the app and use Scan & Go. What a great invention! We did not have to wait in lines (which at that point did not have any floor signs and people were not maintaining the proper distance), and instead just stopped in a less crowded spot in the store and scanned every item in cart and then just hit pay. IT helps to already have your payment added to your account to save some time. And don’t forget to clean your phone when you get home 😉

About time. What the heck are we waiting for?? The measures that are being taken are at a snails pace in my opinion. Happy about the limiting of groups. I went to Sam’s in Thursday and the were so many large groups which is typical here in so cal with all the Mexican families But it’s ridiculous when there’s groups of 5, or even 7 and half of them are small children or elderly. What’s wrong with people?? My neighbors have visitors every day. Ugh.

Racist much? Not everyone is mexican. Its just as easy to say big families instead.

I am a plus member and am very upset that sams has stopped allowing plus members early access. One of the main reasons I have been a plus member for years is due to getting in early. Plus members can’t even get customer pick up orders now. I definitely will be asking for a refund.

    • henry

Yes Julie , I totally agree. I have paid hundreds to be “Plus” too. I others wanted early access , they could pay the extra too. I am cancelling my “plus” membership, and asking for compensations. I am very upset.

Our local Sam’s club has stopped letting anyone in at all and only doing online orders for curbside pickup.

    • Ms

OT: this would be great if Costco does the same, assuming the online curb side pick up has the same product selection as what’s available in the warehouse.
