Anyone know what the major different is between this and using a regular bike without the training wheels to balance and learn 😳
*difference
We have a strider balance bike for our kid. He learnt balancing very easily and now we are planning to add the pedal kit to it. Some of the other differences other than being lighter is the seat height. On regular bikes, seat height would be such that foot reaches the pedal, whereas the balance bike seat height is such that they can keep the foot on the floor which helps them to balance and cruise along.
Balance bikes have no pedals.
Balance bikes are amazing. I’m so happy we went that route. You can start younger—take your kid on a bike ride instead of just a walk — plus they are light enough to carry if they do just want to walk. Plus, I never had to push my kid around. I saw a lot of worn out parents in my neighborhood pulling or pushing a their kid with training wheels and I was exhausted for them. I also never even had to teach my daughter how to pedal. She just picked it up once we put the pedals on her balance bike.
I suppose nothing if you look at it that way? But in our experience, they are lighter and there’s no extra equipment to get in the way. My older two have both used balance bikes. When they were ready to move up to pedal bikes, it only took them maybe 10 minutes of me running beside and they were good! I have 4 kids so a balance bike was a worthwhile investment for us.
Thank you for sharing we’ve been considering one but I was curious what set them apart. Being lighter is a definite difference 😊
age group?
Good question! I don’t find an age range listed, but I did see a maximum weight capacity noted in the details – 77 lb. Hoping that is helpful!
Based on our grandchildren using them I would recommend 3-5.
This is how they now teach adults who never learned to bike also, on bikes with the pedals removed. But the bikes are heavy and it is not as easy. So the lighter bikes will definitely help the kids. I wish there was a similar option for adults too. One would be surprised at how many adults don’t know to bike.
