When you cut a fresh pineapple just put the top in a pot of dirt and it will grow. If you live in Florida you can put them in a bed outside and after a few years you can harvest them on a regular basis. Paying for a pineapple plant is just crazy and they know it!
While I know that this is supposed to work, I’ve personally not been successful with this so I would buy a pineapple plant.
Don’t over water it. Just sit the top on the dirt and it will root. Heavy wet soil will kill it.
Exactly! I’ve got one growing in a pot on my patio as I type this. I started it last year and it’s doing great! I live in the Midwest and had to bring it in last fall but it did wonderfully over the winter inside and now it’s back outside enjoying the sunshine.

Our pineapple plants are insane. They ♥️ water….but we live in Florida. The more water they get the better they look and the faster they grow. If we slack on watering they start to look sad. We have 2 pineapples almost ready to cut. There’s a special process on cutting the pineapple from the plant when you do it…look it up so you don’t infect your plants.

I bought one (love it!) and am wondering if I am supposed to wait until the pineapple gets to the (big) size that they are in the grocery store? Mine is about half size right now – its a little green and a little yellow (like they often are in the grocery store) – and I read above that they are supposed to be brown and smell fruity when picked (thanks!!!). Also – is it a one-at-a-time kind of plant? My current pineapple is growing out of the middle/central stalk – seems like it would take a long time to have another one grow after I cut it? Please share any info you may have 😉
