I Made Money Shopping at Walgreens This Week & You Can Too!
We have a HOT Walgreens scenario deal for ya!
Through October 16th, Walgreens is offering some HOT deals on personal care products, groceries, and even Halloween candy!
We cooked up a moneymaker scenario and even tested it, and while things didn’t go exactly to plan, we’re excited to share with you what we grabbed so that you can grab it too! When placing an online order, keep in mind that your stores inventory may not be accurate, some items may be out of stock (happened to us too!) so you’ll want to watch for any emails about your order.
The scenario below has one Register Reward offer and we have heard from some readers that not everyone receives these when doing an online pickup order. Our best tips are to make sure that you head in-store, don’t do curbside pickup, and ask for it if it prints out. We’ve always received them automatically but it can definitely vary! Also, Register Rewards do NOT show during checkout when ordering online.
Plus, make sure to check your account for a “Booster” coupon that offers $5 in Walgreens Cash Rewards when you spend $20! Your offer may vary a little but they are usually close to the same amount for everyone. You’ll want to make sure you have that clipped before you order so you can score those extra savings!
AND, through October 14th, you can score 10% off select regular & sale-priced items when you use promo code QUICK10 at checkout. If you’re making your first ever online order, you can save 25% off orders of $20+ with promo code DIGITAL20.
Hip Tip: It’s easiest to clip the coupons by heading to the item you’re going to purchase and clipping it right on the product page! You can also clip coupons during checkout and it will even let you know if there’s a coupon available!
Here’s a few of the offers we grabbed…
- Buy 2 select Crest, Oral-B, or Kotex products, Get $4 Walgreens Cash
- Buy 2 select Colgate Toothpastes, Get a $5 Register Reward
- Buy one Prego Pasta Sauce, Get One Free
This is the big scenario we tried to order…
Buy 2 U By Kotex Tampons or Pads as low as $3.89 each
Buy 1 Crest Toothpaste $3 (regularly $3.59)
Buy 1 Oral-B Deep Clean Toothbrush 2-Pack $3 (regularly $3.49)
Buy 2 Colgate Toothpastes $3.99 each (regularly $4.99)
Buy 1 Colgate Cavity Protection Toothpaste $1.79
Buy 2 Prego Pasta Sauces $2.49 each
Buy 2 Reese’s Snack Size Bags $1.99 each (regularly $4.99)
Total after buy one, get one free Prego pasta sauce = $30.02
Use these coupons:
Use promo code QUICK10 (10% off regular prices)
Clip the $5 Walgreens Cash when you spend $20 Booster coupon
Use the $3/2 U by KOTEX Products digital manufacturer’s coupon
Use the $1/1 Crest toothpaste digital manufacturer’s coupon
Use the $2/1 Oral-B toothbrush digital manufacturer’s coupon
Use the $4/2 Colgate toothpaste digital manufacturer’s coupon
Use the $2/1 Colgate toothpaste digital manufacturer’s coupon – adjusted down to $1.79
Use the $0.75/2 Prego Pasta sauce digital manufacturer’s coupon
Use the $1/2 Hershey’s Snack Size digital manufacturer’s coupon
Pay $16.36
Get back $4 Walgreens Cash for buying two Crest & Oral-B
Get back $4 Walgreens Cash for buying two U by Kotex
Get back $5 Walgreens Cash for spending $20
Get $5 Register Rewards for buying Colgate
Get $1 from Ibotta when you buy U by Kotex products (limit 5) = $2 cash back
Final cost FREE + $3.64 moneymaker for 11 items!
Our order didn’t go quite as planned…
Our store didn’t have enough inventory to fill our entire order so we missed out on the Oral-B Toothbrush and one of the U by Kotex pads. However, since the Crest and U by Kotex were in the same offer, we still scored $4 in Walgreens Cash for buying those two items and our order still reached the threshold for the Booster coupon!
We ended up spending $10.72 before tax and getting back $9 Walgreens Cash, a $5 Register Reward, and $1 on Ibotta for a final cost of FREE + $4.28 Money Maker!
We still scored some awesome deals and while it’s a bummer to miss out on more freebies, there are always more great offers to score. Plus, who can complain when their order includes two free bags of Reese’s? Not me!
Some behind the scenes fun – I’m currently 8.5 months pregnant and my husband has been making jokes about me buying Prego pasta sauce! He’s working on his Dad jokes for sure! 😂
When I try to repeat anything complicated like this I fail. Out of stock, no rewards it’s kind of difficult deals to repeat.
Hey Helenp! While this is a bigger scenario to take advantage of the booster and ordering online, you can also check out all of our Walgreens deals for smaller scenarios – https://hip2save.com/save-money-with/walgreens-coupons/
Hope that helps!
This is always a fail for me too. I have commented about this before. I try approximately 6 stores in the NY/NJ area and even when the inventory shows in stock, they can’t fulfill. I end up with nothing or 1-2 items . The coupons do not go back on your account, so you can’t try to go to another store.
Hey acgold! That’s such a bummer that the store inventory isn’t correct. You could always do these deals in-store too, or break them up into smaller scenarios. I also make sure to always check ‘Substitute for any brand or same brand’. You can now even add notes about substitutions too!

Actually they now do go back to your account within 24-48 hours . It is now in the written coupon policy that you will find in the Walgreens help center.
Oh that’s awesome, thanks for sharing JD827! I did notice on my online receipt for the order above it did mention that the $2/1 Oral-B coupon would be added back to my account!
I’ve seen that email a few weeks ago saying the coupons would return but more recently have not. I’ve yet to have the coupons return to my account. I did call and ask about it and was told they were still working on it.
The coupons come back on your account but they do not come off at checkout. 😕

What if I used a paperless coupon on an item and the item is out of stock?
If your item is out of stock and you don’t want us to substitute an item, or one is unavailable, we’ll return the coupon and it will reappear in your clipped coupons.
What happens to my paperless coupon if my order is canceled?
If your order is canceled for any reason, we’ll return all applied coupons back to your clipped coupons. We can’t return promo codes at this time.
If I use a paperless coupon on an item that I later return, what happens to my coupon?
We will refund the amount that you paid for the item plus the value of the coupon. The coupon itself will not be returned.
That’s the official policy in writing. If the digitals do not get returned or do not work after returning let customer service know and cite their policy.
Me too, total fails! I ended up driving further because the store had everything in stock but it turned out they did not. Got a lot less than you for $38, no RR but $20 back and it took me 1.5 hours. Thanks to the other commenters for not making me feel like such a loser!
Oh no! That’s such a bummer Angie! I’ve definitely had my fair share of fails too! I recently tried to stock up on diapers but used a coupon that wouldn’t work with a big booster coupon – I ended up spending $100 thinking I was getting $55 back in rewards and I only got $5. I was so disappointed! You’re definitely not the only one. I hope you have better luck on future deals!
I don’t see the prego coupon
DARN! Thanks for the heads up! It appears to be gone now.

Walgreens does have very limited stock instore due to their prepandemic choice of just in time inventory. They aren’t the only ones. Walgreens does now return digital coupons within 24-48 hours so there is far less risk now. It is in their written coupon policy which you will find in the online help center part of their website. Walgreens can get complicated but it also has the highest returns on couponing. Consider the strategy of doing ship to store, breaking down into smaller deals, writing down in the substitution directions something like DO NOT CANCEL THIS IS A COUPON DEAL I WILL TAKE ANYTHING THIS COUPON WORKS ON. Return if it doesn’t work out and start fresh. I wish everyone only the best couponing experience no matter where you shop.
Thanks for the tip on the instructions for substitutions. I did that with my order that included multiple Revlon eye shadows. They subbed one color palette they were out of for a similar product included in the offer so I still got the promotion I had planned! Great suggestion!

Oh I’m so glad it helped.
If there are any rewards I have to do it instore. They do not give register rewards for any online orders and curbside is considered an online order.
I pick up my order at the photo counter and they give me the register rewards.
I’m new at this. Can you use digital coupons for an item and still submit to ibotta for the same offer you used digital coupons on? Thanks!
Yes! Ibotta doesn’t seem to care if you use coupons or not which is great. Same with Fetch (my favorite rewards app).
Absolutely!
Did you get the Ibotta cash back on that 14ct panty liner? My ibotta rebate is showing that liners 14-22ct are excluded. I do want this same pack but not sure they quality.
I got $4 Cash back on my Ibotta account ($1 for each). I ordered these:
Ultra Thin Pads with Wings, Regular Absorbency 16-count x 1
Ultra Thin Pads with Wings, Extra Absorbency, Unscented 14-count x 2
Compact Tampons, Super Plus Absorbency, Unscented 16-count x 1
I did a transaction similar to this but I didn’t know the total had to be 20$ before issuing Walgreens cash and coupons 😞 I would return and repurchase but I lost my coupons. I contacted Walgreens so I’m out of luck unfortunately.

No you are not out of luck at all. Here’s Walgreens official policy which you will find at Walgreens. com/help
If I use a paperless coupon on an item that I later return, what happens to my coupon?
We will refund the amount that you paid for the item plus the value of the coupon. The coupon itself will not be returned.
That’s the official policy in writing on Walgreens website. In my experience you need to remind the person doing the return that you do get the value of the digital coupon returned to you in WC. I strongly suggest that you find the coupon policy and questions in the Walgreens help center and bookmark it. Whether you are talking to store managers or 1-800 folks knowing the policies backward, forwards, and sideways gives you the edge. Do not get discouraged as you learn. There is always a better deal just around the corner. Best of luck.
I haven’t played the coupon game at Walgreens for awhile, but I’m starting to get back into it. With Walgreens Cash, can you pay for an order with Walgreens Cash AND still earn Walgreens Cash on your purchase (back when it was Register Rewards, that didn’t work). Also, if you place your order online for store pick up, how do you submit it to Ibotta?
They give you a receipt at pickup.

Hip2Save explains about RRs They are still around. You can both use and earn WC on “buy deals”. Look at the ad and pick out those that go something like “buy 2 Dove shampoos and earn $5 WC. The only requirement is that you buy the right quantity and the right kind of shampoo to earn the WC. Pay however you like. A deal that says something like “spend $20 on Dove shampoo and earn $5WC” means your OOP plus manufacturer’s coupons must total $20 (NOT Walgreens coupons). Do not use WC to pay because in Walgreens view you haven’t put $20 in their corporate pocket.
So this must be a new rule and it’s very annoying! I was supposed to get back $13 in W Cash but because I am using $5 W Cash – I am only getting $8 in W Cash. I used to like the Walgreens W cash – but now you can’t really get the best deal. So it’s better to spend W Cash on non-rewards stuff. If I don’t use my W cash I pay $14 (tax) and get back $13 in W Cash. I will also get RR after this transaction so I will have $22 in W cash and $5 in RR.
Any portion of your order paid for with Walgreens Cash rewards is not eligible to earn Walgreens Cash rewards. Total rewards earned will be posted to your myWalgreens account within 48 hours of the time your order ships.

No things haven’t changed at all in that respect. Walgreens is still divided into two kinds of deals:
1. “Buy” deals ex. Buy 2 Crest toothpastes and earn $5 in WC. When that buy language is used in the ad you may both use WC to pay for it and earn the total amount of WC.
2. “Dollar threshold deals or spend deals” Ex. in the ad. Spend $20 on Dove and earn $5 WC.
When you calculate dollar threshold deals to see if you meet the threshold add together ONLY the OOP and MANUFACTURERS coupons. Walgreens now handily separates out Walgreens coupons and discounts from manufacturer’s coupons at checkout. Once you have met the dollar threshold you may use WC to pay for items above the threshold but you must calculate to the penny.
Thanks so much for your helpful responses! We appreciate you! 🤗

Someone needs to inform the Wags customer service reps about the “coupon return” policy. I’ve NEVER had one agree to return a coupon when an order didn’t go through, was cancelled, item out of stock, etc. It’s very frustrating.

It has only very recently changed with the new app update. I would think from a technological point of view it would be quite difficult to accomplish because not only is Walgreens keeping tabs on their own coupons but manufacturer’s coupons which are not Walgreens property. You can inform Walgreens customer service of the policy. It is in writing on their website Walgreens.com/help. I have no doubt that the first few weeks of this will be quite rocky.
Can I use my Walgreens cash with this order and still get the register reward and Walgreens cash?
Hi Julie! You cannot redeem and earn Walgreens cash on a deal where you have to spend a certain amount to earn it. You can find more details on that over here – https://hip2save.com/walgreens-store-guide/ Hope this helps!
My orders mostly get canceled. I like doing orders for WG cash as it goes straight to my account. Whenever there is a RR deal, the employees never include my RR coupon in the bag for me. It’s irritating. When I go back in the store they pretend like they have no clue or would say “bc there’s no RR with the order so there’s none” …..I stay away from RR scenario bc of this reason. Too much trouble for little discount
