Happy Friday Reader Haul from Kroger

Did you know you can save money on groceries by shopping & playing games?! 🎮

No, we’re not pulling your chain! This week’s Happy Friday reader, Justina, tipped us off about a fun way to save money at Kroger, one of the nation’s most popular grocery stores.

By buying qualifying products from certain brands and playing some promotional games, she’s saving on all types of items like batteries and fresh meat. On top of those discounts, she’s also using digital coupons to save even more!

Here’s how Justina does it!

A carton of eggs from a Happy Friday Reader Haul

“Each week while doing my Kroger online shopping, but especially at the start of each month, I search ‘free’ in the digital coupons section, look for Best Customer Bonus coupons for free items like free Sargento cheese or free eggs—-“

“–also Kroger has a rewards program on hey advertised it when it first started, but I think it gets overlooked a lot, not sure if it is very popular. The other day I played a promo game and won 5000pts, enough for $10 worth of produce free and a 4pk of Energizer batteries free!”

Sargento provolone cheese from a recent reader shopping haul at Kroger

“Other freebies I have redeemed from pts have been free tortilla chips, Pringles, $5 off of fresh meat and goldfish crackers—they also have free axe body care items, sweepstakes entries, a few gift cards, and BoxTops.

You also earn pts with maybe each $40 total purchase worth of select brands, but they have the spin the wheel or trivia or survey question promos often.“

What a great and entertaining way to save on household essentials, Justina!

We also love your advice of looking for digital coupons before shopping and using these savings with your other rewards. With the price of groceries being so high, it’s fantastic that you’re able to score free items like eggs and cheese! 🙌

We’re excited to pass along your helpful tips to other readers!

What is the POINTS REWARDS PLUS program?

If you haven’t heard of the POINTS REWARDS PLUS program that Justina is using, here’s what you need to know. The program runs through January 2, 2024 and is open to anyone has a Points Plus card to one of the Kroger Co. stores.

Whenever you buy qualifying products at these stores, you’ll earn rewards points that can later be redeemed for free product coupons, access to digital video games like Sonic Superstars, gaming gift cards, fuel points, and more.

For example, if you buy $40 worth of qualifying products from a Kroger Co. store, you’ll automatically receive 1,000 rewards points! This is enough points to score free or discounted grocery items.

You can also play promo games online to win more discounts, gift cards, and prizes. Right now if you play certain digital games you can try for a chance at a $500 Kroger gift card, win a Meta Quest 2 headset, score a vacation to Myrtle Beach, or snag a $500 Fred Meyer Jewelry gift card.

Signing up for the program is free. Head over to their website to create your account today!

I have redeemed for a few free items, but those games are impossible to win, for me anyway! I don’t have that game dexterity. But I did win bonus points about a month ago when they had a promotion and got enough points for $1.00 off a gallon of gas.
