This Reader Revived a Used Children’s Table For Just $4!
This reader gave an old children’s table new life for just $4.
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!” This week’s Happy Friday reader, Kaonu, was able to scoop up a table for free and then gave it a whole new modern look using Dollar Tree materials.
This is a simple DIY project that other Hip readers can do too!
Follow along to see how Kaonu transformed this table on the cheap!
“I got this kiddie table for only $4!!! It was given to me for free by a neighbor on a local Facebook Buy Nothing group. The table had a lot of blemishes but is still fully functional.”
“I knew I could simply, quickly and cheaply transform it by using wallpaper at the Dollar Tree. I purchased 3 wallpaper pieces for $1.25 each, total $4 including tax. It took me minutes to stick on the wallpaper. Look how beautiful and modern the table now looks. Even my kids are amazed. I love The Dollar Tree!!”
Way to go, Kaonu! 🙌
Your table came out beautiful! 😍 The geometric pattern you picked out for the tabletop makes it look so modern! Dollar Tree for the win!
Your story was an excellent reminder to browse Facebook No Buy groups before heading to a store and spending money. As kids grow so fast, you made a smart choice to revamp an old table rather than buy a new one that they will outgrow.
Thank you for writing in to walk us through how you easily transformed this table on the cheap! Some DIYs can end up being expensive or hard to do, but this one is truly affordable and achievable!
Psst! Are you a Hip reader inspired by this project? Dollar Tree still sells the exact wallpaper Kaonu used for the top of the table!
Not familiar with Facebook No Buy groups? Here’s the scoop…
There are tons of local Facebook groups where you can find items being given away for FREE. Head to Facebook and use the search bar to search for “No Buy” groups in cities near you.
These groups first came to our attention when Hip reader, Terri, wrote in last year to tell us all about how she “shopped” these groups and scored a huge bag of Starbucks coffee for free. ☕️
When we searched the Chicago area, we saw some pretty cool products being given away. We’re talking about cowboy boots, full-length mirrors, appliances, dressers, and more!
If the “No Buy” groups don’t have what you need, other places to find free items include Facebook Marketplace and Facebook community garage sale groups. You can also find cheap items for sale at thrift stores or yard sales. Definitely search these places before spending your money!

What a great idea! Kaonu always have such great saving tips. I followed her idea and transformed an old scratched up bench to looking neat and updated. My kids uses that bench every day!
