If you’ve purchased any Purex Natural Elements laundry detergent products between May 19th, 2013 and March 8th, 2019, you may be eligible to receive a payment from this Purex Laundry Detergent Class Action Settlement.
Claims must be submitted online, via email, or by mail before August 10th.
Eligible products include:
- Purex Natural Elements Laundry Detergent
- Purex Ultra Natural Elements HE Detergent
- Purex Natural Elements HE Laundry Detergent
- Purex Natural Elements Ultra Concentrate HE
If you don’t have proof of purchase, you can submit up to 10 claims total or you can submit an unlimited number of claims with proof of purchase. You will receive $2 per purchase for container sizes less than 150 ounces and will receive $4 per container for detergents greater than 150 ounces.
What is this lawsuit about?
The lawsuit alleges that the “Natural Elements” statements on the labeling, marketing, and advertising of the products are misleading because they include synthetic ingredients. Purex claims that the label is accurate in all respects.
While I agree with wanting companies to be transparent, I don’t think this deserves a lawsuit. I never once thought because they labeled it “Natural Elements” that Purex was now a “natural brand.” A LOT of brands over use the word “natural” or “all natural.” Unless it specifically states there are NO synthetics in it, then don’t just count on the name. Also natural brands tend to be verified and have labels from third parties that verify.
I totally agree with you. I love the purex brand and buy it all the time, I’ve never once thought of it as an all natural detergent.
I agree with you. “Natural” and “all natural” are meaningless terms that are widely used in cleaning products, food items, and cosmetics. I’ve bought this detergent before. I never once assumed I was getting something special or “green”. The major tip off before reading the ingredients that it wasn’t totally natural was that it was the same price as the regular versions of Purex detergents. This version of detergent is simply another variety. If every company that used “natural” in the description had lawsuits against them, the major effect would be wealthier lawyers. The consumers would be no better off. BTW, cyanide is “natural”. Mercury is “natural”. All chemicals on the periodic table could be called “natural” since they exist naturally. Body odor is “natural”. Poop is “natural”. I could go on. As I stated already, the term “natural” on a package of anything is meaningless.
So true, I know it’s an ‘easy’ few bucks but this tort law is just crazy in the US.
I like Purex and have bought the natural elements several times. Not once did I assume it was “all natural.” I dislike lawsuits like this because they hurt good companies which are forced to increase prices to compensate for losses. Lame!

I’m not a fan of frivolous lawsuits and I have no intention of filing any sort of claim on this, but it IS misleading to most consumers. I believe 100% that Purex used that wording intentionally to increase sales, and I think companies should be held accountable for their actions.
I only wish that the lawsuits were initiated by the FTC and not a greedy attorney.
I agree with the settlement because these companies need to stop placing incorrect information on their products just to make millions of dollars for themselves. Believe it or not, many people don’t realize the product is not natural. There are truly natural made cleaning products. So whether young or old, never having tried the product, using natural products, they buy it thinking it is natural ingredients. Every company out there that lies about their product, should in fact pay the penalty to the people for their lies.
