Has anyone used one of these and noticed that if you shred the cheese, store in a plastic bag and freeze or refrigerate, that the shreds stick together when you go to use it ? (especially at the bottom of the bag) I wonder what causes that, I don’t use mine much anymore because of that.

Hi Pat! I haven’t frozen my shredded cheese but I do find it sticks some when storing in the fridge. You can easily break it up when you go to use it OR just shred fresh each time you need it. Here are some details I found on why the pre shredded doesn’t stick like that. Hope this helps! ๐Ÿ’•

“Most pre-shredded cheese is coated with a light dusting of anti-caking agents like:
Cellulose (plant fiber, often from wood pulp)
      Potato starch
      Cornstarch
These absorb moisture and create a barrier so the shreds donโ€™t fuse back together.”

Thanks. I know that about preshredded cheese, that’s why I don’t buy it. I wonder if it’s the heat that’s generated from the shredder. When I shred by hand and refrigerate/freeze, it doesn’t stick. I don’t shred as I use it because there’s too much to wash for just 1 block of cheese.

You’re welcome! I know what you mean on the extra dishes to wash if shredding often. It seems it sticks because of its natural moisture and fat. โค๏ธ
