Do you own an Instant Pot pressure cooker? I’m guessing many of you do as we’ve posted quite a few pressure cooker deals here on Hip2Save. If you’re looking for some quick and easy recipe ideas, consider trying this outstanding homemade Macaroni and Cheese recipe that can be made in under 30 minutes using evaporated milk to make it thick and creamy. The results are cheesy, flavorful, and super delicious!
Pressure Cooker Mac and Cheese
Adapted from DadCooksDinner.com
1lb. Elbow Macaroni
2 Tablespoons Butter
4 Cups water
1 Tablespoon Mustard
1 Teaspoon Tabasco Sauce
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
12 oz. Can Evaporated Milk
3 Cups (12 oz.) Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
3/4 cup (3 oz.) Parmesan Cheese, shredded
Directions: Combine water, pasta, mustard, Tabasco, butter, and salt in the pressure cooker, and stir. Lock the lid and set for 4 minutes on manual mode (high pressure). Do a quick release after cook time is done, and remove lid. The water will be absorbed into the pasta.
Keep the pot in warm mode and stir in evaporated milk. Stir in the cheese a cup at a time. If you prefer toasted breadcrumbs on top (my kids are not fans), just pour mac and cheese in an oven safe casserole dish, top with bread crumbs, and toast in the oven using broiler. Serves 6-8.
Note: The actual cooking time is closer to 20 minutes, because it takes time for the machine to come to pressure and then it cooks. I still feel like it’s easier and more convenient than boiling water on the stove, but if you don’t have a pressure cooker, you can cook your noodles on the stove first and then follow the rest of the instructions.
My family loved this recipe! Also, I’d like to share that I’ve learned a lot and gained some valuable insight and cooking tips from the Instant Pot community on Facebook. It’s a helpful group to join if you’re new to pressure cooking and/or looking for inspiration! In fact, this recipe gets rave reviews and is very popular among members. Enjoy!
