How does Starbucks Rewards work?
Whether you’re a regular customer or just stop in on occasion, the Starbucks Rewards Program is a must! First of all, it’s completely free to join. Aside from earning stars for every purchase, they frequently offer special promotions to earn bonus stars.
Plus, you need to be a member when they offer Starbucks for Life and other instant win games to score free stars, free drinks, gift cards and so much more.
Here’s a quick overview of how their rewards program works. First, you create an account, which you can do on the app to fully access everything. Then you can start ordering drinks in-store or ahead for pickup and pay however you’d like: cash, card, or in-app. Finally, you earn stars that you can redeem for free treats!
Starbucks Rewards members earn perks with every purchase!
- 25 Stars: Swap in any milk substitutions, syrups, or an extra shot of espresso free of charge. – no change!
- 100 Stars (increased from 50): Enjoy a free coffee, iced coffee or tea, packaged snacks, bakery item (such as a cake pop or cookie), Siren Logo Plastic To-Go Cold Cup 24oz, or a Siren Logo Plastic Hot Cup 16oz
- 200 Stars (increased from 150): Grab a free handcrafted drink (including Cold Brew, Lattes, and more) or a hot breakfast item.
- 300 Stars (increased from 200): Indulge in a free protein box, salad, or sandwich, or take home a bag of coffee (coffee was previously 400 stars)!
- 400 Stars: Signature mug, drink tumbler, or select coffee merch (you’ll pay the difference if the cost is over $20).
Reloading your Starbucks card and paying directly on the app allows you to receive two stars for every dollar. If you pay with your card or cash, you can still scan for rewards and will get one star for every dollar. If you bring a reusable Starbucks cup, you’ll also save 10¢ with every purchase!
Cool! I drink one and then I freeze the other one because itβs just me they really freeze well and taste just as good when they defrost in the refrigerator
Thanks so much for the tip on freezing, gentledogwalker! I like to snag two for myself also, but have typically left the other in the fridge. I might have to try the freezing method this time! ππ
Oh yes! You have to try it frozen. My husband and I have each gotten BOGO during promos and saved the extra one to have the next day during our hot summer months. We decided to put them in the freezer. We were shocked! You can either thaw them out to drink or do what we did. We usually have a big bottle of Starbucks cold coffee (medium or blonde roast) in our refrigerator. We add the frozen coffee to a blender and then some of the bottled cold coffee. You could also add your favorite creamer or syrup flavor at this point. Sometimes even a dab of spray whip! They turn out similar to a Frappuccino. YUM!!π₯³πππ
FYIβ¦.Grocery stores now have Pumpkin Spice Coffee in big bottles in the cold section.
Such a great idea to customize it with these yummy add-ins! Thanks for sharing, KKStanley! π€ I’ll have to try this next time too! π
Do you do anything special to freeze it?
I just put plastic wrap over the hole so I donβt get the odor from the freezer. Then I just put it in the refrigerator to defrost. It takes quite a few hours to defrost so you can drink it it taste just as good to me and I am a coffee addict.
Do you freeze the Iced or Hot Drinks? Do you just leave it out to thaw?
I only do the cold drinks. I put plastic wrap over the hole so it doesnβt absorb odors. For safety, defrost it inside the refrigerator It takes several hours.
Any idea how the apple crisp taste? I’m excited to try this but don’t want to be disappointed
I didnβt really care for it, but I donβt like apple pie.
I tried the apple crisp macchiato and I really liked it. At first it was pretty sweet but I think I kept getting sips with the caramel in it. It mellowed out after some of the sweet was gone. But I liked the apple cidery flavor with the coffee. Iβm gonna get it again.
I love the iced apple shaken espresso with oatmilk. Give it a try! Itβs subtle and cinnamon-y and just a little sweet.
Very sweetβ¦.π΅βπ«π΅βπ«
So in store only is that correct?
No drive thru
Hey there! The only exclusions listed are “Offer not available through Starbucks Delivers on Uber Eats or Door Dash.” For any previous promotions similar to this, they’ve not been available through the app for mobile order, but I’ve been able to grab the discount either in-store or at the drive-thru. You could always call your location to be sure how they’ll honor this as well. β€οΈ
Thank you
You’re welcome! π We’ve updated the post a bit on this too! π€βοΈ
Yes, you can do drive thru. I did it last week.
You can use drive thru. No issues at all.
Any ideas for a fall keto drink? I would like to take advantage of this but I am not sure what to order…
Hey Sarah!π₯° Here’s a post that may be helpful! https://hip2keto.com/tips/keto-starbucks-drinks/
I don’t know the exact carb count, so…. Last week dh & I shared the pumpkin spice cold brew. It uses vanilla syrup in the coffee so I switched that out with sugar free vanilla syrup. IIRC there’s some syrup in the foam & there’s no milk choice, but we figured it at least lowers the carbs.
Yep all they have for keto is SF vanilla syrup and swapping in heavy cream vs 2%. I truly wish a big company like Starbucks would have more options for low carb but maybe there’s not enough consumer drive for it (?)
mine showed up in the app this morning and it does say you can do a mobile order through the app which I was able to do with past promotions as well π
Oh good! Thanks for sharing that! π₯°
Iβm so glad you listed the drinks that are eligible because I donβt particularly like pumpkin spice in my coffee and I usually just get like a caramel or mocha Frappuccino so I guess I wonβt be taking advantage of this offer after all unless I change my mind and need a caffeine fix
Sorry to hear you don’t care for those flavors. Happy those details were helpful! ππ
If you like tea from Starbucks, the Chai Latte shouldn’t have coffee. (chai is tasty, IMO)
if you order on the app you can customize it to take out all the pumpkin stuff. π
Are you able to customize the free fall drink?
Hey there! Here are the full details on that – “Qualifying drinks include any size hot/iced/blended versions of Pumpkin Spice Latte, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte, Chai Tea Latte, Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, Caramel Apple Spice, and Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato. Adding Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam and/or other fall flavor modifiers to all other drinks does not qualify.”
You can always call in to your location to be sure on how they may honor it for you.π
You might have already gotten the answer, but in my app, I could customize. It seem to take the cheaper one as the free one–even if that had been customized. It was the total price that mattered. But locations do operate differently.
So is this BOGO deal for Starbucks only valid for USA or also for Canadians? Since I have a Canadian cousin.
Great question! I’m not finding details on if this is valid in Canada. They could call in to their locations or check their app to be sure. β€οΈ
TY for the post! Wondering if anyone else has problems with these offers coming up in their app? My local Starbucks is a good one & they applied the offer but also wondered why the BOGO deal wasn’t showing. It’s happened before and I uninstalled the app and reinstalled to no aval lol. Also, I wish Starbucks would bring back more SF syrups! Only vanilla right now makes it hard to cut carbs down. π¬
You’re most welcome, Brit! Sorry to hear that you didn’t spot the offer in your app, but glad to hear that your local Starbucks applied it for you! Hoping it might show up in your offers next week! π€π
Yay, it is showing up! I reinstalled the app a couple times lol but we are good to go π I love these BOGO deals, get to try the flavors I wouldn’t normally. Makes it a good Thursday π
Woohoo! SO glad it popped up for you, Brit! ππ Thanks so much for the update! Enjoy! π
Went to target to Starbucks counter. To get my Bogo wasnβt sure if Starbucks at target would honor the Bogo or not but they did. I got the apple, crisp, oat milk upon someoneβs recommendation and I did like it and I did get the pumpkin spice and I tasted it and I kind a like it. I will freeze that one because I canβt drink two big coffees. I already had four shots of espresso this morning. Thanks, hip2save
You’re very welcome! So glad that you were able to snag this deal at Target and try out a couple of new drinks! ππ
Those with Albertson’s, Von’s and Pavillion (and maybe affiliates?), Starbucks stores inside has a deal for a drink and pastry for $6 every Friday in September.
Has anyone had the Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte? I am going to try that one today. Sounds so good!
I tried it last week and it was great!! I got 2 iced ones, one I drank right then and the other I removed the ice and put in the fridge for the next day. It was just as good the next day! π I wouldnβt have tried this deal without Hip2Save letting us know about itβ¦.thank you Hip2Save team! Excited to order again this week!
YUM! Such a great idea to keep one for the next day! You’re so welcome, Em! Thank YOU for the kind words and helpful comment! ππ
I don’t see it under offers, anyone else?
Darn! Another reader with the same issue reinstalled their app and then it popped up for them! You could also check for an app update or log out and then back in again. Hoping that does the trick! π€β€οΈ
FYI – for those whose apps are not showing the reward coupon – I called customer service and they stated that I needed to have made a purchase that week to qualify for the coupon today. Not sure if thatβs correct or not.
Thanks for sharing the information you received about this from customer service, Tina! π€
I don’t feel like that is correct . the only purchase I made was last Thursday for the BOGO and the coupon was back on my app this morning
Ironic but all the Starbucks in my area closed early today. App said they were closed and I thought it was an error so I drove to 3. I missed it π
Oh bummer! π So sorry to hear that the locations near you closed early today! Hoping you can grab this offer next week! π€π
Check your accounts, because I found this but today I also received a 50% off handcrafted beverage coupon, exp 9/25!
SWEET! Nice find, CollegeCouponer! π Enjoy! βοΈ
