More Target

We’ve been hearing some buzz about a possible Target membership program!

Would you pay for a Target membership?

According to an article on Bloomberg, Target is considering a paid membership program and it could launch as soon as this year.

The new program would offer more than the existing free loyalty program called Target Circle which offers members special deals, 1% back on purchases, and 5% off for your birthday. Some sources reported to Bloomberg that the new program would require a fee and may include Shipt, the grocery-delivery business owned by Target.

So far, there is no word on whether the new program will replace Target Circle or be offered as an addition. There is also no information yet on tiers, pricing, or perks of the new program and whether it might include benefits like free delivery (we’re also curious how it might impact the perks for Target Red Cardholders).

We’ll be keeping our eyes and ears peeled for any new information to report!

Why is Target considering a membership?

The company’s sales have been declining (stock is down 14.27% over the past year!) so the new membership program may be a way to keep up with competitors with membership programs like Amazon Prime and Walmart+.

Some of these membership programs offer perks like gas savings, no minimum delivery fees, price scanning, self-checkout programs, member-only deals, and more. That means that in order for Target to compete with these established programs, the store will need to provide customers with some pretty sweet incentives!

We’re crossing our fingers that this new membership program will have a lot to offer!

What are your thoughts? Would you be willing to pay for yet another membership?

Target has the best FREE drive up pickup. No minimum, ready in 2 hours. Competitive pricing. It has saved dinner and sick kids many times. I really hope they don’t try and change this

I agree and I hope they don’t do away with Target Corcle.

I’m a big fan of their drive-up service as well, Valerie. We’ll keep a lookout for any new details that pop up about this! 👀❤️

Noo! The one they have is great and free!

Do you tip at the Target Drive Up? I mean, not you personally, but is it expected?

Hey there! When searching on Target’s web site, I did find this information if helpful – ❤️
Shoppers do accept tips! If you’re happy with the service you’ve received, we encourage you to tip your shopper as well as rate them. Shoppers receive 100% of their tips, but all other feedback and ratings are anonymous.

When you’re doing a store pick up, no.

The home delivery through Shipt, it’s expected.

Target’s same-store sales are probably down because it’s hard to shop in person at a lot of stores because everything is locked up and you have to wait for someone to unlock entire aisles of products — that’s barely tolerable for 1 item on a trip, but not for a whole shopping list. The old leisurely Target run, browsing new finds, is pretty much a thing of the past for me, as I’m not waiting 15 minutes to have laundry soap unlocked, and then deodorant, etc. Huge bummer.

Oh, I just want to say to them… Please, Target, don’t take away your free loyalty program and Redcard holder benefits! We live 40 miles from the nearest Walmart or Meijer. Amazon Prime is rarely 2 days even though we’ve been members forever. It is so nice to order on Target and get it fast without having to add one more membership/subscription service for those of us with fewer nearby options.

I hear ya, Kari. While I do subscribe to Walmart+ and Amazon Prime, I really enjoy all the Target Circle benefits without the additional fees. I find their site easier to navigate than others, and the shipping is quick, like you mentioned. Hoping that they don’t make any changes to the benefits that RedCard holders receive. 🤞 We’ll be sure to keep the post updated, as details emerge on this. ❤️
