There’s a viral TikTok video showing impressive results of Derol Lip Plumper, which made us wonder: Is Derol Lip Plumper the best lip plumper out there? So we tested five products to see which is the best lip plumper on the market! Read on to see before and after pictures of the best lip plumpers, and which lip plumper is the best.

Do lip plumpers really work? Let’s find out!

You’ve probably seen lip plumpers all over the past few years. Even overlining has been around for quite some time, but now there are actual lip glosses and lipsticks that claim to naturally make your lips look bigger.

Just a reminder that everyone is beautiful the way they are, but if this is going to make someone feel more confident, then it’s definitely worth a shot in my book. It’s also worth noting that the only permanent solution to fuller lips is lip injections, but for temporary results, these lip plumpers are the way to go!

Many of these brands recommend using a lip scrub beforehand to get the best results, so I use the Total Hydration Exfoliator from Chapstick and some lip balm so my lips won’t get too dry.

Our team tried five affordable lip plumpers starting at just under $4 to see which one worked the best. We gave our honest feedback about them based on each plumper’s results, how they feel, and any other stand-out features.

Milani Keep It Full Nourishing Lip Plumper looks amazing… depending on the shade you select.

Milani’s lipstick is one of those lip products I’d use until the absolute bottom of the tube, so I was super excited for this one. It claims to be America’s #1 Plumper, so I was ready to be wow-ed by this plumper! Plus it comes in fourteen shades. Milani Lip Plumper is definitely more affordable than Derol Lip Plumper, but how does it perform?

It was a calmer tingling sensation, so it’s a great option for anyone concerned about wearability. However, there is something to be said about the various color options. I was a little nervous when I tried the color Nude Shimmer and saw how light the color was and thought it could wash out my skin tone. Unfortunately did not like this shade on me! 😔

However…

While I wouldn’t pick up the Nude Shimmer shade again, I do highly recommend this lip plumper in Tropical Shine (the color I’m wearing in this pic above)! The lip gloss is so regal and shiny, and truly makes your pout pop! This shade ended up being much more flattering for my skin tone.

Chelsey’s Buxom Full-On Plumping Lip Cream gives natural results that make her lips pop!

This choice is most definitely a team fave! Buxom’s lip cream comes in twenty shades, and I love that they have a try-on guide with three different skin tones so you get a better feel of which shade will compliment you. This creamy, vegan gloss is shimmer-free, so it’s definitely going to give you that natural look, regardless of the shade.

buxom lip plumping cream

Buxom uses a formula that includes Vitamins A and E, which captures that tingly sensation while also hydrating your lips giving them a gorgeous natural plump! The price point of Buxom is closer to the luxury end, where as Derol Lip Plumper is more of a medium price point.

Here’s what Chelsey had to say:

“I’m officially OBSESSED with this lip color! 😍 As for the plumping effect, I would say I was satisfied for someone who prefers natural-only looks 24/7. In my opinion, the gloss on seemed more like how my lips should look, rather than my actual lips! You can tell from the before pics my natural lips kind of hide into my skin.

There was no doubt a nice tingle, but not overpowering to where it hurt (I’ve tried ones like that 😖), just enough for that instant oomph & lip pick-me-up! That being said, if you’re looking for REALLY full lips, I would say this Buxom gloss isn’t it.”

L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Plump and Shine Lipstick is a popular and highly-rated choice.

This L’Oreal plumper is the one I had been hearing the most about. I know that L’Oreal took the time to create this based on other lip plumpers they had seen according to their product announcement post, so I was really excited about this one. Not to mention, it has over 1,600 reviews on Amazon! The inexpensive price is a low-risk way to try a lip plumper.

I used the shade “Nectarine Plump”, and although it’s described as lipstick, it’s a bit sheerer and basically is a gloss in stick form. This definitely has build-up potential, though, because the more coats I put on, the more pigmented it became. This is a color I’d never normally go for, but I actually ended up liking it!

after plumper

I did notice a difference after about ten minutes of putting this on. The tingliness, which I ended up feeling with all of them, kind of caught me off guard, but it seemed to do its job!

The first time I tried this, I wasn’t a big fan of was the consistency of the lipstick. It felt almost like there were little bumps in the formula, but when I tried using it again I ended up really LOVING it! It had that super prominent plump effect I was looking for.

Emily has been loving her Soap & Glory Pillow Plumper for years!

pillow plumo gloss

While this wasn’t part of my testing, my team member Emily has been raving about this Pillow Plump Lip Gloss for a while now, and she loves it! It comes in five shades (she’s wearing Pink Well) and has over 500 reviews.

Here’s a close-up after using Pillow Plump:

Here’s what Emily had to say:

“Let me start by saying you shouldn’t expect any crazy miracle with this lip gloss if you have really thin lips, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying it! I’ve been using Pillow Plump for years now (a little goes a long way), but I seriously can’t get enough of it. It’s the perfect very sheer natural pink tint, but you can layer it on thicker if you want the pink hue to be more prominent. It tingles after a minute or so on your lips which is what creates the plumping effect.

Really, I think this just helps you subconsciously make a pout while wearing, giving the illusion of fuller lips, but regardless, it’s been my favorite lip product for a while now, and it’s easy to spot at Target!”

Derol Lip Plumper is the most intense option that ultimately became my favorite!

derol lip plumper set

Derol Lip Plumper, Day and Night (2Pcs) $12.98 (regularly $16.98)

I haven’t heard of this brand before, but the process really intrigued me. Derol Lip Plumper is the highest-rated lip plumper out of the five, was labeled as Amazon’s Choice, and has been on the Amazon Viral Products page for a few months now, so I had high expectations!

This set comes with a daytime plumper and a nighttime plumper that contain ginger, mint, and Vitamin E with the expectation to use both for maximum results.

Let me tell you, this one is INTENSE! By far, this had the strongest burning/tingling sensation of all of them. It doesn’t hurt, but it is very strong, and I can imagine that with consistent use this is probably the most effective one. With time, as I now use this multiple times a week, you won’t even notice the tingliness anymore.

I’ve been using this one for around a month to test it, and I really love it! Some reviewers mentioned regularly using this for 30 days could make a significant change (temporarily yet consistently), and I agree. The tingliness, with time, isn’t as intense.

derol day lip plumper

Just a heads up, many different stores on Amazon sell this, but I went with this Derol Lip Plumper because it had the most reviews and the Amazon’s Choice label. They also sell the day and night plumpers individually, but, since they’re tiny, I’d go with the duo!

This lip plumper was attention-grabbing in all the right ways, which is the exact result I wanted! It was the perfect shine and plump I was looking for, so Derol Lip Plumper is my winner!

I’m soo surprised you didn’t try Too Faced Lip Injection. That’s by far the most popular one I know about. I have that one and I love the color but don’t think it plumps much. I also have Buxom, again I have a couple colors but don’t think that plumps much either lol. What I do know is that they both have a very….. Strange ?… taste. They DO NOT have a nice sweet lip gloss taste. Very verrry chemical.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for your suggestion and review, KerRI! Good to know what you’ve thought of those!

  2. Cindy

Thank you for taking the time to do these reviews. I love this and the drugstore vs high end brand makeup. They are super helpful.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re very welcome, Cindy! SO glad you’ve been enjoying these reviews! 🙌🥰 Thanks a bunch for your feedback! 🙌

  3. Angela

I second Two Faced Lip Injection for sure. It’s the standard. But also MineralFusion bc it’s the original one. But be careful if you have edema or anaphylaxis before you use any plumper

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the recommendation and the warning, Angela! 🤗

  4. Jessica King

Another cult favorite is the original. Lip Venom by duWop. It is very excellent results. Not for the faint at heart but always my favorite and only one I would buy. Amazon sells it.

  5. Rainy

Obsessed with pillow plump! I’ve been using it for about at year! Best drugstore plumper I’ve found!

  6. Dorothy stevens

Can’t wait to c it work

  7. Lumi

Did anyone try Nourishmax Lip Plumper? I love their other face serums, wondering how the lip one is.
