Butt… have you tried these leggings? 😱

You’ve likely heard about the butt lifting leggings that are taking over the internet single-handedly, but if you haven’t tried them yet, you’re probably wondering if they’re all they’re cracked up to be… pun intended. 🤣

Lucky for you, I tried them out, and with a little humor & humility, I’m sharing whether they’re worth the price or if you should stick to squats after all.

I was recently talking to a good friend about these butt lifting leggings because she had seen them on another friend during yoga. She instantly had to know where they were from because hello… her butt looked amazing! Who wouldn’t want in on that if they could buy a great-looking butt on Amazon too?! LOL! 😆

So… I ordered the Amazon SEASUM Women’s High Waist Butt Lift Leggingsstarting at just $12.

I ordered the same exact pair that my friend had mentioned so I was totally stoked to get home and try them out.

But, I have one minor disclaimer…

To answer your burning question right out of the gate… there’s about a 99.9% chance you will not look like the stock picture online. 🤣

So, let me preface this post by saying unless you already have a butt like Kim Kardashian, no cellulite, and perfectly toned legs, don’t expect to look exactly like the sales images of these leggings.

That said, they do make your butt look pretty good. 💁‍♀️

With these butt lifting leggings, the secret is all in the scrunch on the back. The scrunched seam gives the illusion of going up your bum without being uncomfortable (or actually going up your butt). They also were the perfect length (yay!) and just for reference, I’m 5’5″.

My guess is anyone with a beautifully big behind naturally gets wedgies with leggings so that’s the look we’re going for here?! 🤣 Count me in! 🙋‍♀️🤣

side by side comparison of woman in black leggings

For the sake of really seeing what these butt lift leggings can do, I compared them to one of my favorite pairs of Fabletics leggings. Above you can see the difference between the two pairs.

I do love my Fabletics, but I have to say the Amazon pair (on the right) really does accentuate my butt slightly more and they don’t “camel-toe” (which I just learned is a real term and eliminating that effect is a selling point of leggings these days 👌😅). And as I already said too… it’s all in the scrunchy crack, which ya just can’t find anywhere, ladies. 🙌

But in all seriousness though, I honestly was a little underwhelmed with these leggings.

Maybe it’s because I wasn’t blessed with a big butt or maybe that stock photo set my expectations too high, but either way, they left a little to be desired, and here are a few reasons why:

They might be see-through. As you can see above, I’m rocking white nail polish and it probably goes without saying, but you shouldn’t be able to see that through my black leggings. 😅 That said, I really only found them to be see-through if I was doing drastic movements – so don’t buy these for squat days or wear colorful underwear with them. LOL!

They offer no compression. I’ve had 3 kiddos so having good compression on my thighs and stomach is a must for me. It makes me feel more secure, fit, & comfortable and these just slid right on and didn’t suck you in anywhere. But if you don’t like compression leggings, these are going to be right up your alley!

The sizes aren’t small enough. Since I didn’t feel like I was getting good compression, I wish I could have sized down, but their smallest available is, in fact, a small. I’m normally a size 0 in women’s pants so these definitely could have been tighter and fit better. That said, I’m worried if they were too tight, they’d actually be see-through, so there’s that. 💁‍♀️

The texture is strange. I really didn’t care for the texture. You can feel the bumpiness on your legs so it takes some getting used to if you’re used to buttery soft leggings.

They’re not for working out. I would be hesitant to encourage anyone to wear these while doing strenuous exercise due to the see-through tendencies and the thin material. Unless you’re just looking to flaunt your new butt around the gym, I don’t think they’d be ideal for getting much else done.

So are these butt lifting leggings for you?!

Well, I’ll leave that up to you, but my thoughts are they’re certainly worth a shot if you’re looking to impress or are proud to flaunt all of that hard work you’ve been putting in at the gym. 🏋️‍♀️

They could also be worth it if you just want something casual & comfortable to wear around at home, and I have a feeling your hubby will appreciate it regardless of your intentions. 😏😉

Not sold? We LOVE these incredibly soft Lululemon legging dupes even more!

I find these soo comfortable, the texture is different but they don’t feel weird on the inside. My butt does look nicer lol but I think I like them more for being so comfortable and not rolling down. They are a bit transparent so I wear them mostly at home or curbside pick ups since I stay in the car.

    • Sara

I’m so glad you love yours! Thanks for stopping by to share how you wear yours!

  3. Queenie

Love how these make my butt look better but if you thick the are not covering anything I can see my skin through them. I am going to try different brands till i find what i am after.

    • Sara

Let me know what you decide on, Queenie!

I was literally checking these out last night! I’m so glad you guys did a honest review- I appreciate the transparency- pun intended! =) That said, I may give these a shot in a different color!

    • Sara

You’re so welcome! Let us know how they work out for you!

These are modeled on women with either implants or the more common BBL. Most simply won’t look that way and honestly the models are a bit much for me. I prefer sites where real ladies are modeling from small to large and have a more relatable image. These cheaply made leggings at indeed see thru and not squat proof and cost too much for what they are. A friend has a pair and they are embarrassing even for a store run. You can find leggings in TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Ross for less than $10 a lot of times. If you want high quality, obviously you’re going to go specialty like Lululemon 🙂

    • Sara

Thank you for sharing your valued feedback! We’re huge fans of Lululemon too and linked to a dupes post at the bottom if you’d like to check it out! 🤗

‘‘Cracked” up at your wording, I see what you did there🤣😂

Came to the comments just to see if anyone else was cracking up over the title 😂

  8. Amy

Props to you for sharing pics of your butt. Would give me anxiety 😂 they looked great on you though!

    • Sara

Haha, well thank you, Amy! We have an amazingly supportive team at Hip, otherwise, I’d probably have anxiety too. LOL

  9. andyscottage

I have several pair from a vendor on Jane.com and I love them! They are not see through and are amazingly comfortable. Also my husband is obsessed with them on me 😊

    • Sara

They sound amazing! Thanks for sharing!

I got these in the black and white stripes through the FITTOO store on Amazon. After reading all the reviews, I got them as a “Valentine’s Day gift” to my husband. (He’s a butt guy and I’m a modest person, so this seemed like a compromise over the skimpy, tiny lingerie.) The fabric of these pants is super comfortable and not at all see through. It took a bit to get past the weird feeling of rouching along my butt crack, though. And once my husband saw them, he wouldn’t shut up about them! I felt like they should’ve come with a warning label that you should only wear them if you are ready for some serious attention 😉

    • Sara

Haha!! I love this! Thank you for sharing, Lisa! I’m so glad you (and your hubby) love them! Happy Valentine’s Day to you both!

  11. Leavesbegintofall

I got these and returned them. They looked fine, even cute, but the material was soooo icky to me. I could not get over the feeling of all the ruching.

    • Sara

Sorry they didn’t work out, but thank goodness for free returns, right?!

  12. labebona

I know leggings are the thing right now but what are these about?!! I have 2 teenage sons that just about drooped their jaws when they saw a women wearing these type of leggings with no underwear! I don’t get it lol I must be too old 😂😂

    • Sara

Haha I wear leggings for comfort and nothing else, but I can see why they could pose as a slight distraction. LOL Isn’t it nice to be getting older and wiser?! I’m right there with ya!

    • fabfitmom

Does anyone really wear panties with leggings anymore?

    • Kathy

Yeah, I don’t think they look very nice~it’s a little too in your face, look at meee! But I’m an old fart lol

    • Christine M

I completely agree with you! I hate it when women wear these in public. I have four boys, myself. These leggings make women look naked and they are so inappropriate.

  13. loretta

The ones I ordered on Amazon were Asian size, so too small for me. I should have sized up. They felt like bubble wrap on the outside and you could definitely see thru them. Not impressed

    • Sara

Oh no! Sorry they didn’t work out, Loretta!

  14. Akanksha Bedi

I loved reading your review. I am 4″10 so not sure if the S will work for me, I usually wear XS. By the way, loved the side by side comparison picture. Thanks again!

    • Sara

You’re so welcome, Akanksha! My friend who I actually mentioned in this post was over my house and she tried them on too. She’s actually 4’10” like you and these leggings fit her perfectly in the length. Of course, the actual size you’ll need for the waist could make them fit differently too, so just something to keep in mind. 🙂 If you try them out, let me know what you think!

  15. Carlie

I love these, but am not a fan of the texture. After trying several brands, the Lift are my favorite. They have a decent amount of compression for those of us that have had kids, and they come in several styles and colors. Highly recommend checking them out!

    • Sara

Thanks for sharing, Carlie! I’ll have to check them out. 🙂

  16. Mommyof4

I found some at tjmaxx for $9.99. 🙂 Sounds similar in quality. Glad I didn’t pay more!

    • Sara

WOW! Awesome find, thanks for sharing!

  17. Tiff0820

My husband ordered me a black pair and I just got them today and put them on instantly. They are very comfortable for sure, my daughter keeps touching them bc of texture haha Definitely very transparent though, that’s my only complaint!

  18. Rosanne

I continually wonder why anyone would want their butt to look like the one in the stock photo??? It’s so odd and disproportionate. You look great naturally. Size zero will never look like that photo. Luckily😄

    • Andrea Lyttle

Some women, like me, have this body type naturally, and I’m good with my body, disproportionate and all. I get plenty of positive attention and comments from women and men alike without tights in my butt crack. So, lucky or not so lucky, depending on what you’re going for. I was happy the author used the term “beautifully big” in the article just for someone like yourself. 😊

  19. Lisa

I just want to say I have 4 pairs of these from Walmart.com and I love them. They are not see-through at all and they have compression in the waist area. I don’t wear them for attention I like the way they feel. They stay in place and don’t roll down all day. I’m not a size 1 and I have a mom bod and they are perfect.
