Frozen Pizza Taste Test – Freschetta, DiGiorno, Red Baron, and Sabatasso's

Calling all pizza lovers!

While fresh, home-made pizza tastes amazing, our team held a frozen pizza taste test. After all, there’s nothing easier than going to your freezer and pulling out a frozen pizza on those busy, I-don’t-feel-like-cooking nights. But what’s even better is discovering a frozen pizza that tastes delicious, looks home-made, AND offers an unbeatable value.

We recently tried the following four pizza brands during our Hip2Save Team Retreat to see which pizza our team liked the best (flavor-meter πŸ•), which pizza was the prettiest (impression-meter ❀️), and which pizza offered the best value (value-meter πŸ’°). Read below to find out which one ranked the highest in all three categories!

Sabatasso's pizza singles

The Sabatasso’s Pizza Singles from Costco were surprisingly delicious, despite the way they looked compared to the other frozen pizzas. But, the delectable thin and crispy crust topped with perfectly seasoned sauce, real cheese, and savory pepperoni, made these singles the flavor winner for us!

And, we’ve heard they have a gluten-free variety that tastes even better!

Red Baron Pizza Box

Red Baron Classic Crust pizza is definitely an affordable yet tasty option when it comes to frozen pizzas. Their classic crust is not too thick and not too thin, and it comes piled with pepperoni, smoked ham, sausage, and hamburger. There’s even a robust sauce and melt-in-your-mouth cheese!

“Red Baron’s Classic Crust pizza tasted pretty good for cheap, boxed pizza. However, the cheese didn’t completely melt in the center after baking it for the recommended amount of time, which was a bummer. Plus, it could have used a bit more pepperoni.” -Michelle

4. DiGiorno Cheese Stuffed Crust Pepperoni Pizza

DiGiorno frozen pizza box

It’s not delivery – it’s DiGiorno! Made with 100% real cheese, no artificial flavors, and a preservative-free crust, DiGiorno offers a pretty irresistible combination. The crust stuffed pizza with mouthwatering cheese and loaded with toppings delivers the perfect amount of delicious cheese in every crispy bite.

“The DiGiorno Cheese Stuff Crust pizza was OK, but I was not a big fan of the cheese-stuffed crust as it makes it too heavy and greasy. I prefer crusts that are just bread since there is already so much cheese on the pizza. Plus, I felt that we had to cook it for a long time in order for the pizza to be done and not doughy.” -Mary

  • Impression-Meter: ❀️❀️❀️ (3 out of 5)

While we didn’t complain about eating any of these delicious pizzas, our team decided the Freschetta Supreme was the hands-down winner-winner pizza dinner! That said, we certainly wouldn’t turn down any of these pizza options on a busy weeknight.Β But what do you think?

Freschetta For Sure The BEST All Around I Totally Agree Digiornio Is Good But I Think Too Much Sauce For The Prices They Charge NO THANK YOU!!

    • c

I agree. I prefer the square Freschetta, but that brand has the best cheese/sauce combo of the mainstream brands imo. It’s the favorite at my house. Though, I have purchased several different varieties/types of pizzas from Aldi over the years, and most of them have been very good, too. There is one cheese varieties that they have on occasion that has big round slices of mozzarella on it and a nice crispy crust. That one is my favorite.

  2. MeekoTreeko

Freschetta is hands down the best. But when I want to feel young I get a Tony’s. Always takes me back!

  3. Elizabeth

Have had the Freshetta. I was very pleased .

  4. Karen

Screaming Sicilian offers a great pizza! Lots of fresh looking ingredients. Nice crust. They have a good variety to choose from. If you are on their email list, they send a monthly coupon for $1.00 off. If that isn’t enough, each box has a press out mustache to have fun with!

  5. Olgraygirl

We are the thin & crispy crust type at our house. Really like Palermo’s (sign up for an email account and they will only mail you once per month, but get a $1 off coupon). Another fave and price cannot be beat is the HUGE 16″ Aldi brands. Thanks for the test–please branch out with other tastings.

  6. Darla

Thanks! Could you do that with all the Aldi pizzas? There seems to be a lot of choices at Aldi

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Darla! Neat idea! I’ll be sure to pass that along to the team!

  7. Sue

It’s not the same type of pizza, or crust, but Real Good is my absolute favorite. I would eat that any time. It is pizza made with chicken as the crust, not dough. I realize I risk it being out of stock telling other this, but it is amazing! There are rebates on ibotta here and there too. I love the cheese one.

  8. Kay

The Digiorno 4 cheese Thin Crust is what we buy. We add to it, onions, peppers, sausage and extra cheese. We have also done this with the Screamin Sicilian cheese also.

  9. Melissa

Dr. Oetker’s (now Virtuoso) pizza. My children love the spinach flavor. This is the only way my kids will eat spinach.

  10. Meow

    No Tombstone fans here?

  11. copper

    I love Sweet Earth,Newman’s Own, Amy’s

  12. Rebecca

Great Value are amazing for the price (Sam’s Choice too but they’re a little pricier). I think the key to making any frozen pizza better is cooking it directly on the rack, huge difference!

  13. Jeannie

Smart Flour is my favorite GF pizza.

  14. Stephanie

Home Run Inn is our favorite frozen pizza. It’s a Chicago style pizza and the crust is out of this world! I get them at Sprouts when they go on sale BOGO so they only end up costing $5 each.

  15. Lyndsey Rullman

Have any of you guys tried the Screamin’ Sicillian brand frozen pizza?? So good!!!

  16. Be

I ‘m surprised that Tombstone pizza was not tested. It’s readily available in most stores …. unlike the one that’s only available in Costco. Tombstone has a very tasty ( not salty) sauce, and a generous amount of cheese. I buy the 4 cheese pizza and add my own toppings, like olives and mushrooms. And the cost is very reasonable.

  17. Foofo

My favorite frozen pizza is Connie’s! Second to that has to be Trader Joe’s Organic Woodfired Sicilian Style Pizza ( I can eat the whole pizza by myself!)

  18. Mona

Aldi’s Mamma Cozzi’s thin crispy crust pizza is my favorite at a whopping price of @$2.19 per pizza. For eating out my favorite is Grimaldi’s with Blaze coming in at a close second.
