As someone who doesn’t cook often, here’s why I found this Good Chop meat subscription box so valuable!

I had the chance to try the Good Chop meat & seafood subscription service, and it’s a tantalizing delivery service worth sharing. I am not one to cook at home, so I was a little hesitant to believe that Good Chop would be anything special for someone with my cooking habits.

When I do cook, I LOVE to occasionally treat myself to some drool-worthy cuts when I walk by them in the butcher case at the store. But I’ve often thought that a meat & seafood service would be underwhelming, would cost too much, or would go to waste.

Until I actually tried it…

If you guys want to try Good Chop for yourself (and you absolutely MUST), you can score $100 off your first THREE orders — no promo code needed!

So you’re probably thinking a Good Chop meat subscription still seems a little pricey–it definitely did to me at first.

But when you start researching what actually comes in the boxes, I can just about guarantee that you’ll change your mind!

To start, each box’s price comes out to less than $5 per serving.

The medium box (which is what I chose) comes with 36 portions for $4.14 per meal. The large box comes with 72 portions for $3.74 per meal. I don’t know about you guys, but the steaks at my store ring up at about $7-$8 per serving on average. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that groceries in my area are only getting pricier.

When I broke the cost of the Good Chop boxes down into actual portions, I was surprised to learn that I’m actually saving money. 🤯 I also know I’m getting the best hormone-free and domestically sourced meat around. And one of the biggest selling points to me is that it shows up right on my doorstep, meaning I don’t need to leave the house! 👏

As if that all wasn’t enough, that quality is undeniable!

I was mystified at how easy it was to get a gorgeous sear and juicy rare center after cooking this flat iron steak! I was seriously drooling before it ever even hit the pan. That poor steak didn’t stand a chance against me. 🤣

Hip Tip: Before cooking your steaks, let them sit out for a bit until they come to room temp. When super cold meat hits a hot pan, the muscle fibers become tense & chewy and your steak won’t cook as evenly.

Fish and vegetables in pan to get cooked

When I cooked the cod I ordered, there was no fishy smell, which is such a testament to the quality of the product. There’s nothing worse than opening seafood packaging to be greeted by the smell of low tide.

Choose what you love and skip what you don’t like!

Even though Good Chop is a meat subscription service, I thankfully didn’t have to worry about getting cuts I don’t like. Most subscription services come with a pre-set selection of items, and you can’t be exactly sure what you’re getting each month. On one hand, it’s fun to get a surprise. On the other hand, you may end up with some duds that you wouldn’t have chosen if it were up to you.

Luckily, you don’t have to worry about that, because you can shop around for what you actually want. 🙌 Even better, you can switch your cuts up each month, so there’s no need to worry about committing to one selection! This way, you can sample their entire delectable menu.

And speaking of commitment, I love not having to worry about being roped into a long-term subscription.

Once you sign up for your Good Chop meat subscription, you can unsubscribe whenever you want. So if you don’t use all the meats each month and your freezer starts looking a little too well-stocked, you can cancel and come back later.

I did have one small concern when ordering my boxes…

I live in New York and I’m always a little nervous about ordering food online. Personally, I don’t love the idea of the box sitting out for any amount of time outdoors, especially as the weather heats up.

But when I opened my package, everything felt like it had just come out of a deep freezer. It actually looked so good that I was a little bummed I’d have to wait for it to thaw overnight before digging in. 🤣 Knowing I of course wouldn’t be able to start cooking it all up right away, I easily transferred most of the contents to the freezer to keep them frozen and extend their shelf life.

Good Chop’s meat subscription service totally blew my expectations out of the water.

From the careful packaging to how amazing everything tasted, my experience was 10/10 and I’ll be getting my meats delivered from Good Chop in the future! In fact, my boyfriend wanted to order his own box after our first meal and I had to shout, “wait, there’s a big promo coming up!” 😂

Want your own? Head on over to Good Chop, pick out your box, save $50 on your first box and + Free shipping! Now’s a great time to treat yourself to some seriously good quality meat and seafood!

Is this meat antibiotic free or grass fed?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Sarah! Yes! I did find that the meats are anitbiotic- free, hormone-free and domestically sourced. You can find more on that when clicking through the link above and then clicking on “Sourcing” at the top of the site. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I would also like to know which pan you are using?

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Ursula! I have the Medium Box, which is perfect for me. I cook just for myself and my boyfriend maybe once or twice a week so this box is really the ideal amount for a month’s time. For bigger families (4+ people), the Large Box might be the way to go but for just a couple of people or for those who don’t cook too often (*cough cough* me! 😂) I’d recommend Medium!

I usually shop for meat at my local grocery, but was able to get a deal on a large Good Chop box about 2 months ago and decided to try it, as it’s still been difficult to find some items, such as chicken, here. Let me just reassure anyone who is on the fence about this that they should jump at this offering right now. The quality was superb (mixed box of beef, pork, chicken, and fish) and the items arrived frozen solid. Plus, I had an issue with ordering, which was totally my fault, and they had fantastic and responsive customer service. I like knowing that their products come from America and not from Australia, like some similar plans.

So happy to hear you had a positive experience! ❤️

Free shipping on first box, but then what Is the shipping fee after that?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Great question! It’s $9.99 to ship, Lisa Lilze!

I was thinking about getting this box because I could use a good deal on meat. I went with an all beef box (it let me select the cuts I wanted) because chicken is still inexpensive in the local stores and I don’t like fish. Anyway, I chose the large box and picked from the beef cuts that gave me the most ounces per cut. Anyway, I wouldbe getting a total of 18.5 lbs of meat for $188.30 which comes to $10.17 a lb. That might be good for quality meat but I can still get beef in my local store (not this quality) for way less than $10.17 a lb… If you are looking for quality meat this is probably a good deal but if you are looking to save money this might not be a good deal…

What brand of plates are those? I like how sturdy they look and the rise on the edges.

    • Emily (Hip Sidekick)

They’re Studio McGee from Target! I love love love them and they are VERY sturdy and heavy-weight, plus there are matching bowls. It looks like the cream color is no longer available but they’re still available in blue. If you’re set on the cream color, it looks like Target has something similar also by Threshold, and I love the subtle color blocking on those too!

  7. SydnSaxMomma

Thank you so much! Looking at them now.

  8. Janet

I’ve placed one order so far and we’ve had two items out of our food. The steaks are excellent—really tender. Now I just have to figure out how to cook rockfish.
I would definitely recommend. The quality is first rate. I’ll definitely order again.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks for the great recommendation, Janet! 💞🙌Happy you’ve been pleased with the food so far!

I did not have very good luck with this company. Three shipments in a row had damaged packages. The meat was not sealed, the meat wasn’t good to eat. I started buying meat from a local supplier.

    • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

We’re so sorry to hear that you didn’t have a positive experience and appreciate your sharing. So glad to hear that you were able to find something that worked better for you.
