Outlet Shelves: The Product You Didn’t Know You Needed Until Now
We love functional organization!
If you love easy ways to get your home organized, an outlet shelf hack is going to change the way you think about your outlets! From easily storing your Amazon Alexa to electric toothbrushes – and even small oil diffusers – this storage hack is my favorite yet!
Here’s the outlet shelf that I bought and love:
-
Lowe’s Sanus 1-Gang Outlet Shelf – $14.99
Let’s just say that if we’re friends, you can expect to get one of these from me for Christmas this year. 😆 THAT’s how much I love this outlet cover!
This is the painful reality of what we had before. Wiping down the sink was always an inconvenience. Plus, we’d always have to be super careful when brushing teeth and washing our hands, so we didn’t accidentally splash water all over our Amazon Alexa.
And hello, ugly black cord. Who wants to look at that on top of their counter? 😣
I’m really impressed with the quality of this Sanus 1-Gang Outlet Shelf! It’s solid, and the outlet cover plates that come with it are made of metal painted with a beautiful matte white paint that blends perfectly with the sheen of existing paint! In addition, there’s also a convenient hole to run your cords through, so no more cord eyesores.
Installation could not be easier either since it’s the same as installing a regular outlet cover. This outlet shelf freed up valuable counter space and made our bathroom look so much more organized! And my Amazon Alexa sounds even better now! Win, win!
Here’s another outlet shelf that I have on my list:
Amazon Mount Genie Easy Outlet Shelf – $14.99
This shelf will easily store larger electronics and hide all the cords! It uses your existing outlet cover and hooks to either side of the outlet, still freeing up your counter space and low enough to place under cabinets in your kitchen. This one is next on my Amazon list!
Here is one outlet shelf I totally don’t like:
-
Amazon Breezy Livin’ Outlet Shelf – $13.97
I wanted to try this shelf in our kitchen, and sure, it looks nice in this before and after (and I was totally impressed visually). However, it was a total flop when it came to actually use it!
Here’s why I’m so underwhelmed with this outlet shelf:
- It clips together at the top, so it’s not sturdy at all.
It handled our small, lightweight phone charger just fine, but once we placed just one phone on it to charge, the top of the shelf totally fell apart within seconds, dropping my phone to its death (i.e. the counter).
- The outlet covers were made of plastic and not metal.
- Too tall to store our Amazon Alexa under the cabinets. (This isn’t a reflection of the quality though, just not the right design for that particular need.)
- Overall, just useless and undependable.
The verdict:
With all of that said, I ended up returning the Breezy Livin’ outlet shelf. My recommendation – I would splurge on the sturdier Sanus 1-Gang shelf and spend the extra cash. Your phones will also thank me! 😉
Organize your junk drawer in five minutes with this easy solution!
I own 2 echogear for my sonos ones for 3 yrs now, I think. They are very sturdy & a perfect fit for my speakers. I love them! Neat, & organized looking.
Awesome! Glad to hear how well they are working for your speakers, Regina! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!
Genius! Thank you!
You’re very welcome!
Can the easy outlet shelf be used on a horizontal outlet? Unfortunately, that is how ours were installed in the kitchen.
It doesn’t look like the design would accommodate a horizontal plug, but if your item isn’t very heavy, you could try one of those plastic Bobino hanger things: https://www.amazon.com/Bobino-Phone-Holder-Minimalist-Charging/dp/B00BSBHOOA/ . I have a few of those that I use those a lot. They won’t hold an Echo or anything heavy, but they will hold a phone or small electronic device next to an awkwardly-placed outlet.
Has anyone tried out the Wali brand ones on Amazon? Interested because I’m looking for the sleek black ones but also paying a fair price at the same time..
Yup! I got one and I liked it so much I bought a double pack. Great deal and functional. One note: one of my outlets was under the kitchen cabinets, which didn’t allow enough clearance for my tall Echo.
Also beware if the outlet has the gcfi fuse popper buttons, these won’t fit, must be a basic outlet.
As a work around I did a small 3M command shelf above the outlet.
Mine came with two different plates so we were able to use it on the GCFI outlet in our bathroom.
In for one, thanks. I trust your reviews (love my shower caps btw)
Aww, You’re welcome! So glad to hear that. Thanks a bunch for the sweet comment! 🥰
We have an outlet in the bathroom that is not near the sink or anywhere convenient to leave anything plugged in. This type of shelve solved the problem of rechargeable items like our Sonicare toothbrush, Foreo, and Clarisonic.
That’s awesome to hear how it solved your problem, acgold!
I love the idea of this, for sure.. but the writting reads like major first world problems 🤣
Has anyone tried the surge protector outlets with the shelf?
I bought one the last time y’all posted about it and it fits my husband’s electric shaver stand PERFECTLY. We have a tiny bathroom with a tiny sink so this was a perfect solution!
It’s stunning that in this day and age, that outlet shelf you love doesn’t have USB ports. All our outlets have those now. Seems like a fail to me.
