I Tested the $9 Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen Dupe from Trader Joe’s & This is Why You Need It…
Find out more about Trader Joe’s sunscreen that’s a clear dupe for Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen!
We love a great beauty dupe! 🤩
Why spend nearly $40 on Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen when you can spend just $9 on this Trader Joe’s dupe?! I tested both and here’s what I thought about the comparison…
If you keep up with the latest beauty trends, you’ve likely heard Trader Joe’s has a $9 dupe for the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen.
Anyone else who’s unaware may be wondering, “Why is this so exciting?” Supergoop! is a clean beauty line that quickly developed a cult-like following with beauty lovers everywhere who can’t get enough of their products – the $40 Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen being one of them. 🤩
It’s velvety soft on the skin, provides 40 SPF, is unscented, and also leaves a beautiful matte finish on your skin making it an ideal primer for flawless makeup application.
It’s no wonder the @dermdoctor on Tiktok (who has over 15 million followers) shared how it’s one of his favorite face sunscreens and further solidifies it’s well worth the $36 price tag. 🙌🏻
However, when Trader Joe’s launched their Daily Facial Sunscreen for just $8.99, it made us all question Supergoop’s price. 🤔
When I heard just how similar they are, I had to test them both out for myself to see if Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen really is a perfect dupe…or not.
I knew I needed to act quickly because word on the street is this stuff is selling out FAST!
Luckily, I was able to find a bottle at a nearby Trader Joe’s despite another location being sold out until the end of summer. 😳
Funny enough, the woman checking me out and the man bagging groceries both made a comment about how much they loved the Daily Facial Sunscreen and each of them said how they heard it’s a great dupe. 🤣
Little did they know, that’s exactly why I was there. 😆
The bottles are slightly different in appearance (no surprise there). Each bottle also contains the exact same amount of product (1.7 fluid ounces). That also means both bottles are travel-friendly. Yay! 👏🏻
It’s also immediately obvious that both contain 40 SPF and are water and sweat-resistant for up to 40 minutes.
If Trader Joe’s can stand up to the test, this is a beauty dupe that will save you nearly $30! 😱
Both products claim to be weightless, colorless, fragrance-free, and oil-free, and both are cruelty-free meaning the products are never tested on animals.
Sounds perfect so far! 😍
When comparing the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen to Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen, you’ll also see they boast the same exact active ingredients. However, the first difference I discovered is the percentages of each one are not identical, but they’re extremely close. (See the below photo for a comparison of active ingredients.)👇🏻
So how does Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen compare to Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen?
I know if you’re still sticking with me, you’re curious how each one feels on your skin. If you’re already familiar with the Supergoop formula, you know it is indeed weightless, colorless, and velvety smooth.
However, even being fragrance-free, there still is a hint of sunscreen scent. While fragrance-free means there are no additional scents added beyond the core ingredients, I couldn’t help but mention that it’s still noticeable. That said, I find the scent to be extremely faint and pleasant.
Trader Joe’s formula has a lot to live up to so far…
Before testing the Trader Joe’s formula, I knew I loved the user-friendly flip-top bottle way more.
I was even more shocked at the resemblance and how much I loved it after putting it on! 🤩
The formula in appearance looks nearly identical to the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen and only has a slightly milkier color. Both blended completely clear on my skin.
I also found that each one blends seamlessly and truly is an oil-free formula which I absolutely love! A little bit of each also goes a long way so you don’t need much of either product and you’ll definitely get more bang for your buck with Trader Joe’s.
The sun protection the Trader Joe’s sunscreen offers is also impressive. 👏🏻
I’ve been using this stuff exclusively on my neck and face for the past two weeks and I’m really starting to notice a difference. Above is a recent photo of my summer tan lines and, as you can see, my neck and face (shown without any makeup) appear to be many shades lighter than my body. 😱
Even this past weekend I spent quite a bit of time out at the pool while only wearing Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen on my face and neck. I even went hiking the next day wearing it once again.
Since incorporating this into my daily routine, I haven’t burned once!
The bottom line is…I would never know the difference between these two products if you didn’t tell me which one I was wearing.
One thing I wasn’t expecting to be wowed over was the flawless makeup application. I really do notice a difference when wearing either product! Typically, I experience creasing on my eyelids and under my eyes, but when using these as a primer and waiting 15 minutes I experience no creasing whatsoever! 🤩
My sensitive skin has also remained clear and happy with each of these products so I think it’s safe to say I’m sold on Trader Joe’s for life now! However, if they ever stop making this stuff, it’ll be hard not to run to ULTA for the real deal, too. 😏
Have you tried this Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen dupe yet?!
See which luxury vs. cheap beauty product dupes did better in our tests.
I”m always looking for new face sunscreens. I’ll have to try this one. Thanks!
You’re welcome, Lindsey! 💕
THANK YOU for this info!
You bet! 🥰
We love unseen, especially the kids when they play sports. They are so worried about having a white face. I can’t wait to try this one and save a little money.
YAY! Hope you love it, Amy L! 🤗💞
Thank you so much. I love SuperGoop but this alternative is much more friendly to the wallet. Thanks for the review and recommendation. I will pick one up.
You’re so welcome, Cindy! Hope you love it! ❤️
Isn’t this a sunscreen and should be tested to see if it actually protects skin from sunburn? I don’t see these results in review and as a consumer, that’s my first criteria.
Hey there! I totally hear your concerns. I typically don’t ever burn on my face and just get lots of freckles so for that reason I didn’t add that to my review. However, I did wear both over the weekend while spending the day on the paddle board and didn’t burn. So far, I really love both. Hope this helps!
I agree. I am disappointed that the post is more of an echo of what’s been wildly talked about on social media, but fails to discuss the merits of the #1 use of the sunscreen.
Hey ladies! If you’d like to take another look at the post I have updated it with some more recent feedback on the sun protection after using it daily and exclusively for the past few weeks. Hopefully, this will better address your concerns about the sun protection. 🙂
Now I just have to find it in stock somewhere!
Is this a mineral or chemical sunscreen?
chemical
Thanks!
I really enjoyed reading this and I’m totally going to try the Trader Joe’s sunscreen! Supergoop is priced a bit steep for me at the moment and I am thrilled that there is a product so similar at a great price, as I felt I was missing out. Lol. Thanks so much.
You’re so welcome, Elsie! I hope you’re enjoying it as much as I have been. 🙂
It’s still out of stock — my TJ’s manager said more won’t be coming until later in August, but no one knows when. There is no stock for them to order.
Darn! Thank you so much for the heads up on that, Maggie! Hoping it pops up soon for you! 🤞💞
The Trader Joe’s near my area, Northridge CA, were limited to one case for each store. They came in today and you’ll need to go in fast before they sell out.
Thanks for the heads up, Laura! Glad to hear it’s available near you! ❤️
Kroger brand has been a great supergoop dupe for a long while now. Doesn’t leave you as oily as TJs.
Thanks for sharing, Ivy! I haven’t heard of the Kroger brand so I’ll have to check it out. Both of the ones I shared in this post are oil-free though so neither should be leaving your skin oily. 🙂
I thought octocrylene was not suitable for sunscreens for benzene conerns
