3 Ingredient Apple “Dump” Cake

If you’re looking for an easy cake that doesn’t even require a mixing bowl, try this yummy three ingredient apple “dump” cake! This dessert tastes like a cross between a cake and an apple cobbler.

Apple “Dump Cake” Recipe

(Adapted from Come Together Kids)

Ingredients

one yellow cake mix
7 apples, sliced
1 stick of butter
sprinkle of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice (optional)

How to make an apple dump cakeDirections:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and grease or spray a 9×13 cake pan. Slice apples and place them evenly in the pan (optional step —-> sprinkle a little cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice over apples). Sprinkle the cake mix over the top of the apples. Melt butter and drizzle over the top of cake mix. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45-50 minutes until the apples are tender and cake gets nice and brown on top. (Tip: The water from the apples should soak in with the cake mix but if you’re noticing the cake mix isn’t completely cooking, just sprinkle a little water over those areas and put back in oven). Serve with some vanilla ice cream on top if desired.

This was a super easy dessert and a great way to make use of fresh apples! Another perk – it makes the house smell amazing!

    Looks scrumptious. I want to try this tonight but I only have yellow cake mix in the house and it’s too cold to go back out. Do you think it would still turn our really good?

    I didn’t like it the next day or after. It’s just not good as it sits and the apples let out some juice and turns the cake mix part to a gluey texture. The canned fruit actually fairs better in this kind of recipe. Considering how expensive real butter is you can sub it out of this recipe since the cake mix overwhelms any sense of butter flavor.

    I’ve only made dump cake with cherry pie filling before. My local Grocery Outlet has canned cherries on sale and I wondered if they would work, but if you can make it with fresh fruit, I don’t see why not. They also have peaches on sale. I can’t wait to try them. I love dump cake. It tastes like a special desert, but is so easy peasy.

    Dumb question but do u sprinkle the cake mix raw or with the oil, egg and mix as u would ordinarily make a cake. Dumb question I know lol
