Our bread in a bag recipe was inspired by this simple one on Allrecipes.com, but we jazzed it up with cinnamon and raisins for a sweet and savory twist. You can also go the savory route with some Everything But the Bagel seasoning or just sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Yum!
Homemade bread is surprisingly affordable!
If you’re used to spending $5-$10/week on bread for the family, you can reduce your cost quite a bit by making bread in a bag at home. All of the ingredients can be purchased in bulk so you can make multiple loaves at a time if you need more.
You can also get creative with this simple recipe by adding your favorite seasonings or nuts for a different twist.
Cinnamon Raisin Bread in a Bag

Fresh homemade cinnamon raisin bread made in a freezer bag to minimize the baking mess!
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided in thirds (plus extra for flouring surface)
- 4 to 5 tbsp white sugar (depending on how sweet you want your bread)
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/4 oz. package rapid rise yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons non-fat dry milk
- 3 tablespoons olive oil (or melted coconut oil)
- 1 tsp salt

Add 1 cup flour, sugar (add an extra tablespoon if you want sweeter bread), yeast, raisins, cinnamon, and warm water to a large freezer bag. Let out most of the air from the bag, but leave just a little so the ingredients can move around.

Seal the freezer bag and use your hands to press and mix the ingredients together. Once well blended, set the mixture aside for 10 minutes.

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup flour, dry non-fat milk, oil, and salt. Stir and then transfer to the freezer bag mixture. Seal the bag (again, leaving just a bit of air in the bag) and squish until everything has blended together.
You might see a few small clumps in the bag, so just use your fingers to press them out until the mixture is smooth.

Add in 1 more cup of flour to the bag and squish into the dough until everything looks well blended.

Remove the dough from the freezer bag and transfer to a floured surface. Use your hands to knead the dough for about 6-8 minutes and shape into a loaf.

Place your dough in a greased 8" loaf pan and cover with a dry hand towel for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Once the dough has risen, remove the towel and place your loaf pan in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

After the bread looks nice and golden brown, remove it from the oven and set aside to cool for 10 minutes. Slice and serve with butter, peanut butter, or your favorite spread — enjoy!

Tips for making bread in a bag:
- Be sure to thoroughly mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and water mixture so you don’t have any chunks in your loaf.
- Leave a small amount of air in the bag (but not too much), so there’s enough room for the ingredients to move around and blend together.
- If you’re not a fan of olive oil, you can use coconut oil or sunflower oil instead.
- To make this homemade bread without a bag, follow the same steps using a separate mixing bowl instead of the bag.
Our homemade bread came out perfectly moist and fluffy, and even tasted great the next morning when we toasted it and smothered it in butter. So good! 🤤

By raisins surely you mean chocolate chips or something lol. I would have to just make cinnamon bread. I’m not a raisin fan. Cinnamon bread is delicious too so I’m sure it’ll be great!

Anyone know a good sub for dry milk? Wonder if it would be fine without it. Son has been having hives and they think may be allergic or sensitive to milk, corn or tomatoes. Poor kid is missing pizza, pasta with red sauce, popcorn, and crunchy tacos. Corn and dairy are in so many things.
