Easy Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe – Great for Game Day!
This award-winning Buffalo chicken dip will become an instant party favorite!
Need an easy appetizer perfect for both football watching and entertaining?
This Frank’s Buffalo chicken dip recipe is a sure winner every time I serve it, and it’s usually gone in just a few minutes! You can make this in the Crockpot or in a casserole dish.
It’s such a delicious way to get all the spicy flavors of Buffalo wings using Frank’s wing sauce, but in a warm, cream cheese dip.
Easy no-fail appetizer recipes are my favorite, and this one is a breeze to whip up and have melted to enjoy for game time. Consider doubling it for larger parties, and be prepared to get asked for the recipe a lot!
Hip tips for making the best Buffalo Chicken Dip:
- Prep ahead idea: Mix everything in a casserole dish ahead of time, and put it in the oven 30 minutes before guests arrive. Easy peasy!
- Crockpot directions: Mix ingredients together in a slow cooker and melt on low for about 1-2 hours until warm and the dip starts to bubble around the edges. Keep your slow cooker on the “warm” setting during your party and stir every so often.
- Swap out the ranch for blue cheese: Those in Buffalo, NY swear by the use of blue cheese over ranch, so if you want an authentic Buffalo wing flavor, try replacing the ranch dressing with blue cheese instead.
- You can use leftover grilled chicken breasts or shredded rotisserie chicken. In this recipe, I used prepared packaged chicken, but you can always cook a couple of chicken breasts, chop them up, and use them in this recipe.
- Easily make Buffalo dip a meatless version using a head of cauliflower instead of chicken! Simply cut the cauliflower into bite-sized pieces and roast them on a baking sheet pan until tender. Then you can continue with the recipe using your roasted cauliflower instead of chicken.
- This appetizer is easy to serve low carb and keto! Buffalo dip already has low-carb ingredients, so you can serve it up with celery or other veggie dippers to please the keto crowd!

Melted gooey cream cheese Buffalo dip is SO GOOD!
I’ve been making this dip for so many years, and it’s a definite family favorite. The layers of cheese and sauces work so well together, and I love the texture and bold flavors.
If you haven’t tried it, it’ll be an instant hit your next gathering for sure!
This recipe is awesome !
I’ll second that! I recently had it at a Halloween party and I kept hovering over the crock-pot like a starving refugee!! I am all over making it this weekend!!!
We looooove this dip! It is terrible for you, but we pig out on it a couple times a year. Sometimes I dip celery instead of chips to make myself feel a little better about it, lol.
LOL! Great idea! 😉
Go low carb, use the celery sticks and no foul done:)
This would have been the PERFECT opportunity to say “no FOWL done”.
I love this stuff too, it is so delish!!
Also, I used canned chicken (like the small tuna cans) and that is easy and probably much cheaper than the type shown in the picture.
I also use canned chicken for this recipe. I’ve never had a problem with it, and nobody can tell!
Costco was sampling chicken not too long ago and it was amazing and I was shocked that it was canned. It was their own brand (Kirkland, I think?) and it was in a pack of six for really cheap. Delicious!
So glad you mentioned this. I was wondering if the canned chicken would work well 😃
Every time we have something at work to bring food to, my co-workers insist on me bringing this dip. It is so, so good!
Oh, and btw, we make it in the crock pot.
it’s great when it’s served warm right out of the crockpot.
Yes the slow cooker works great and keeps it warm! I forgot to mention that 🙂
Lina
I use rotisserie chicken instead of the canned, and it keeps well in a crockpot set on low too!
This stuff is good!! I use chicken that I have baked & shredded instead of pre-cooked but that’s a personal preference…. I think Collin is using the Corelle 2 1/2 quart round baking dish? It might be the smaller one though.
Anyone ever try a vegetarian version of this? Just curious how you did it, and if you liked it.
Haven’t tried it yet, but you could probably add a can of white or black beans, or some Morningstar fake chicken strips, or just make the dip without anything added. Sounds yummy either way!
I’ve done it with cannelloni beans, just rinse before use. I still use the cheese though because I eat dairy.
Thanks so much! My boyfriend will absolutely love this.
Awesome dip! I also use the canned chicken when I make this and blue cheese dressing works just as well or better as ranch in my opinion.
love this stuff. have to go to a girls night tomorrow so may bring this as my dish.
We make this! But bigger lol. Use an entire 5lb bag of chicken cooked and shredded. A whole bottle of ranch and hot sauce. A whole bag of cheese and one block of cream cheese. Mix it all in your baking dish and bake for 30 minutes.
We sort of do this. I will crock pot the bag of chicken. When it’s done I shred and pull about half out and freeze. The other half I add Franks Hot Sauce and Ranch dressing and make Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches on rolls (like barbecue). Whenever we want the dip I just pull out what I need from the freezer and follow the rest of the recipe above. It makes the whole thing a bit more budget friendly and we get a meal out of it for the same amount of effort too.
I love this dip, but on a sandwich? Genius! Lol I can’t wait to do that.
This recipes will win a man’s heart every time. I’ve been making this for years and it is best using leftover Rotisserie Chicken and celery sticks. Crockpot method works for about 2 hours and always use room temp. cream cheese to avoid curdling. 😉
My husband hates ranch and spicy things, but will devour this no problem! He always asks me to make this when his guys are coming over 😉
there is also the recipe we use on the bottle of Frank’s Red Hot sauce that is awesome !!
We use the leftovers of this dip and put it in tortillas and make quesadillas!!! It’s soooo good!
Leftovers?!? We never have any, but I’m certain that would be yummy! c:
I make this dip all the time!! I usually use the low fat cream cheese (NOT the non-fat). Sometimes using the full-fat ingredients can make this dip a little too greasy. You can also use a crock pot to heat it up, and it’s surprisingly delicious cold!
This is my go to potluck recipe that is usually gone in less than 10 minutes.
Thank you! Since I saw one featured on Shark Tank, I’ve always wanted to try this dip. I thought about it the other day while in Kroger but didn’t have time to look up the recipe. I’m trying this this weekend.
I could seriously live on this stuff! I gained way too much weight during my last pregnancy from eating so much of it!
My fave dip to make! Definite crowd-pleaser. I also do a couple things slightly differently – I add the same amount of blue cheese dressing as I do the ranch, and add an entire bag of shredded mozzarella. Instead of using rotisserie chicken, I’ll just plop in 2-3 cans of chicken breast. If I’m feeling up for it, I will add extra cream cheese – but I keep the extra bits chunky, cus it is delicious after it’s all been baked!
This dip is awesome! My whole family loves it!!!!!
Growing up, my mother would partially deep fry chicken wings, coat them in this dip/sauce, minus the ranch dressing, and then bake the wings for twenty minutes. They were awesome, and she even won best wings locally at the wings festival downtown twice! She will love this recipe!
This is soooo good. Before kids, this used to be Friday dinner. But now we have to set a good example. Sigh.
I love this dip recipe. I just mix everything up togther and sprinkle extra cheese on top (rather than layering the cream cheese). I also add a tbsp of melted butter and black pepper. I just made it this past weekend and plan to have some of the leftovers tonight before taking the kids out for Halloween. Even the kids like it.
I also wanted to add that I put some chicken breasts in some chicken broth in the morning to cook. After they cook for a couple of hours I shred the chicken and save the broth for soup.
It’s a Corelle 2.5 quart dish, and it worked out great. Or you can use a plain rectangular 9×13.
Should I use 1/2 cup buffalo sauce so it isn’t too hot?
this looks good, thanks. I don’t cook much, so I’m always in charge of appetizers for thanksgiving 🙂
I make this dip a lot and always get compliments and people asking for the recipe. I chop up celery to mine to give it some crunch and a little healthier. It’s awesome!!
I did this for 4th of July and it was a hit!! Will have to make an excuse to make it again lol
I love this stuff!! It’s very addictive! Also it can be frozen that is IF you have any leftover.
Been making this dip for years, yummy!!
I want this NOW! Look’s so yummy!
My mouth is watering just reading the comments..LOL
Hey! Great minds think alike! I was at the grocery store buying the ingredients for this dip when you posted this!!!!
I’m making this (double batch) for our annual Halloween Block Party. Everyone chips in with either a pot of chili, or cornbread or sides. We rotate every year what to bring. This year I got ‘appetizer’. Woo hoo! LOVE this dip!! :-0
For all you vegetarians out there – I have made a similar dip only I used the Morning Star Farms Chik’n Patties and it is amazingly delicious.
Anyone got a vegan version? I’m kidding.
i make a similar dip, but instead of cream cheese, i use pureed white beans or chickpeas to help cut back on calories.
I throw all of this in my crockpot and it’s usually ready in under an hour! Those small bottles of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce is the perfect amount and I can usually get them for free at my local grocery store (doubles coupons!). I use Frito Scoops instead of tortilla chips and it’s so delicious delicious!
Even better when you use Cool Ranch Doritos to dip.
From buffalo ny 🙂 I use canned chicken and mozz cheese on top. Also heard of using blue cheese dressing instead of ranch.
Im making this right now for our weekly The Walking Dead get together. I cant wait to try it. 🙂
Do you think you could use leftover turkey for this?
This is a huge hit at my gatherings. It’s on my appetizer list for Thanksgiving. I just boil a chicken breast, shred it, throw it and all of the other ingredients into a small crockpot, stir it a few times and serve with tortilla chips. Yummy!
I had read on another site about someone adding a little extra ranch and serving this as a pasta sauce. COMPLETELY unhealthy, but oh so very good. 😀 I’ve only ever made it twice as such.
I made mine without the ranch and it was amazing! I just can’t seem to eat ranch. 🙂
look so good yummy! I try make this week! thank you Collin!
To go completely over the top and not care about calories, I will also make this and spread it over rolled out dough (Rhodes bread dough), roll it up and bake. Makes a terrific Stromboli. Could even make a calzone out of it. 🙂
do you cook the chicken in the microwave before mixing it in? Or does it just cook in the oven?
Do I need to cook the chicken first?
Making this now for our weekly walking Dead sit-down. I added some chopped green onions on top! Can’t wait to taste this! Smells delicious.
How spicy is this dip?
sawur site for the first time love it. can this be served at room temp. or must be served when done, thinking of taking this to a potluck party.
That’d be a great version too! Thanks for sharing Mindy!
