Thank you Collin will use this for Thanksgiving looks yummy 🙂

  3. Iinda

This looks yummy. Do you eat it alone? Or with something to dip into it?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Ya I’ve just seen it as a side dish or dessert. Maybe graham crackers for dipping would be good?

  4. Guest1

Any alternates to cutting the fresh cranberries? Can they be chopped with a knife? Don’t have a food processor.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

sure! May just take extra time 🙂

    • Amber

Try pulsing 1/2 cup or so in a blender.

Oh Lina, you’ve done it again! I am so making this for Thanksgiving!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Oh yay thanks, Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

I make this with a slight variation…I mix the cranberries with the sugar and let sit overnight (a couple hours would probably work too). Then proceed with recipe as usual. Letting is sit helps cut the sour/bitterness of the cranberries. Either way its delish!!!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Great idea! Thanks Lisa

Lol “salad.” This reminds me of the “salad” on how I met your mother that had layers of gummy bears in it!

  8. April

This sounds divine. Can’t wait to try it. Thank you, Lina and thanks to Lisa for the tip about presoaking the cranberries.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

For sure – and thanks for reading!

So I’m looking for input: to use heavy cream or Cool Whip? Whose made it? What is your preference?
AND… Pecans or walnuts? What’s your preference? Please share you experience w/ me. Thanks!

    • Chantel Chapman

If you use heavy cream you will need to stabilize it. Just pick up plain unflavored gelatin near the Jello mixes. Personally I avoid Cool Whip like the plague. This recipe reminds me of my mother in law’s watergate salad. I have no idea why the word salad is part of it’s name because in place of the cranberries it uses jello pudding.

My mom has made this for years. It is the family favorite. Whoever she uses Dream Whip. Make sure that you put your bowl and beaters in the freezer and get good and cold. This makes it fluffier. Make sure you follow the instructions on the box. She has always put in Black Walnuts as well. She puts two small bags of the walnuts in it. If we don’t have Cranberry Salad it’s not Thanksgiving or Christmas. Happy Cooking

Oooo…you had me at ‘cranberry’! Looks good, I’ll have to make it for myself! lol

  11. Holly

My family makes something like this but fold in the cream in the morning and the freeze. So good

My mom has made this for years. It is the family favorite. Start with your cranberries ground and sugar. Let set overnight then finish the next morning.
