Homemade Zesty Italian Seasoning & Dressing Packet Hip2Save

Zesty Italian dry seasoning packets are super versatile. In addition to using them to create homemade salad dressing, these packets can be used to quickly season grilled meat, create marinades, and to add to roasted potatoes & veggies and slow cooker meals. If you’re like me and use these packets often, try making this copycat version at home!

Homemade Zesty Italian Dry Seasoning Packets

Adapted from GroupRecipes.com

Ingredients:

1 Tablespoon Onion Powder
1 Tablespoon Garlic Salt
1 Tablespoon Sugar
1 Tablespoon Salt
1 Tablespoon Oregano
1 Teaspoon Basil
1/4 teaspoon Thyme
1 Tablespoon Parsley
1 teaspoon Pepper
1/4 teaspoon Celery Seed

Make your own zesty italian seasoning packet for dressing, marinades, and roasted veggies Hip2Save.comDirections: Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight seasoning bottle/container.

For Salad Dressing: Mix 2 Tablespoons of seasoning with 1/2 cup White Vinegar, 2/3 cup Olive or Canola Oil, and 2 Tablespoons water. Shake well. (Optional: I also add 1 teaspoon fresh minced red bell pepper and 1 teaspoon fresh minced carrot.)

Use these Italian Dry Seasoning Packets to create this easy one pan Italian Chicken Bake and/or this yummy Slow Cooker Creamy Italian Chicken.

Thank you! Thank you! Those little packets are so expensive. I use them in my potato salad and marinades and it really adds up. Can’t wait to try this!

You are welcome! Hey potato salad is a great idea. I also use in Italian pasta salad to season pasta so you don’t have to use a ton of dressing. Yum

  4. Jennifer

Pour this over raw potatoes cut up then bake till soft and carmelized, so delicious! Look homemade dressings! Thanks Lina!

How much seasoning do I mix into the oil/vinegar? All of it?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

2 Tablespoons of seasoning. Sorry meant to say that and I added correction to post. Thanks so much!

  6. Georgi

Does this just make enough for 1 time making the dressing or multiple times and when making the dressing how much dry seasoning do I add to the oil, vinegar and water? Thank you!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

I would say a couple times – use 2 tablespoons for salad dressing. Thanks!

  7. Judy

made the italian bake for dinner, but used boneless pork loin — hubby devoured it!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Yes we have too! Love that 🙂 Thanks for coming back to tell us!

I’ve been making this dressing recipe for about 6 months now… I won’t use anything else. I eliminate the salt though, and use garlic powder instead of garlic salt. Much better for those with hbp. Still tastes great!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Great tip!

Hi Lina, if I don’t like zesty italian, but plain italian…which ingredient should I remove? Thanks for all your recipes!

How much for this mix would you use in place of an actual packet for yiyt Italian Chicken Bake Recipe? 2 Tablespoons?

  11. rrsignon1

I got a recipe off of Facebook that I love.
    3 chicken breast boneless
2 cans of green beans drained
    Cut up some red potatoes
    1 stick of butter melted
    1 zesty Italian packet
Put beans on one side, chicken in middle, and potatoes on the other side and pour butter over top and zesty packet cover and bake for 1 hour at 350° it’s so good.

  12. Molly

Do you think it would taste okay without celery seed?

  13. Melanie

Thank you so much for posting this recipe! I have always used the packets, but due to having to be on a gluten-free diet, I couldn’t use them anymore. I used this recipe for an Italian pasta dish I make a few times a year. It was fantastic! This recipe is way better than those packets. Thank you!!!!

    • Lina D

I’m so glad! Yes I love it in pasta salad too- Yum!

  14. Brittany

Is the recipe equal to 1 pack that you buy from the store?

    • Lina D

No – but using two tablespoons of it would be. Hope that helps!

  15. Laurene

When I realized that I didn’t have any bottles of Italian dressing I picked out your recipe off of Pinterest. I made it and used it for a cold spaghetti salad for dinner. It is delicious, much better flavor then what I could buy at the store. Now I don’t have to buy store bought salad dressing. Thank you

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

That sounds like a delicious recipe idea! Thanks for coming back to let us know Laurene 🙂

Love having this recipe. I use it all the time in my pasta salad and my family devours it. Never use bottled dressing anymore. I also use it to marinate chicken, beef, or fish before I cook it. It gives everything a wonderful flavor and makes the meat so juicy and tender. Thank you for sharing.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks so much for coming back to say that!
