Lina’s Honest Review of eMeals + FREE 14 Day Trial (Meal Planning Made Easy!)

Need some delicious AND easy meal ideas?

We can all get in a “meal rut” by preparing the same dishes over and over and over each week. If you dread meal planning, are looking for new recipes, or simply needing easy & affordable ways to plan meals for the whole family, then eMeals might be the solution for you!

Lina recently enrolled in the FREE 2 week trial of eMeals and LOVED it. She will be continuing on with the subscription because of how impressed she was with the quality, taste, and overall variety of the recipes.

Some of her favorite meals from the Quick & Healthy plan:
  • Butternut Squash Quinoa Salad– Roasted butternut squash paired with rosemary quinoa, dried cherries, feta cheese, and arugula. This was GOOD!
  • Udon Pork Stir Fry– This was a flavorful stir fry with pork, veggies, and Udon noodles. Very quick and yummy.
  • Shrimp Sofrito– Such a simple and delicious one-pan meal using a can of fire roasted diced tomatoes, veggies, and shrimp served over rice.
  • Kung Poa Chicken– This was our favorite. It had a delicious spicy garlic chili paste sauce with peanuts. Yum!

What I LOVED About eMeals:

  • Makes meal planning easy with a customized menu, convenient grocery lists, and helpful dietary info by using the handy eMeals app. You are also emailed printable versions each week.

  • I learned new methods of cooking and tried unique ingredients I may never thought of. For instance: I have never thinly sliced a pork tenderloin to add with stir fry and it was so delicious! I had also never bought Udon Noodles before and my family loved!

  • There are so many different meal plans to pick from that fit your eating lifestyle such as Clean Eating, Paleo, 30 Minute Meals, Budget Friendly, Kid Friendly, Slow Cooker, Diabetic, Quick & Healthy, Vegetarian, and more. You can also change to a different type of plan if you don’t like the menu of the plan you signed up for.

  • Encourages cooking at home more which is less expensive and healthier than eating out.

  • The recipes I cooked for my family tasted YUMMY and fresh!

The Not-So-Good About eMeals:

  • Honestly, I rarely have time/energy to cook different meals each night that require a recipe. Sometimes it’s things like grilled cheese and canned soup dinners that get me through the week.

  • I rely on leftovers! I do like to make a large amount of chili, soup, or spaghetti and have leftovers through the week.  I guess you could always easily double a recipe you like from eMeals and do that!

  • I wonder if I’ll use some of the specialty grocery items in the future – like tahini, white wine vinegar or garlic paste?

  • I like to save money by meal planning based on what is on sale and in-season at my store or using what’s already in my freezer or stockpile. I spent a little more on groceries than usual because I was buying what I wanted all at the same time. 🙁 shrimp-sofrito

Overall I enjoy eMeals and find it very helpful to discover and cook new, creative and yummy meals.

Even if I don’t actually cook each recipe every week, I feel like it’s still worth it because there will always be a great list with lots to choose from when I do decide to cook my family a delicious meal! 😊

Does anyone have experience with the app recently? We tried emeals a while ago, and the app gave us a lot of problems (e.g., putting a recipe on the grocery list twice, deleting grocery list). I might be interested if it seems like the app is functioning better. TIA

    • Jamie

I’ve used it every night for the past 4 ish months. Never once a problem and I find the app very use friendly.

      • jlm

Thanks! Mine was really glitchy early last year, but I loved it when it worked.

I think you should have everyone give some easy family friendly recipes and make your own monthly meal calendar for free… I cook scratch recipe meals at least 5 nights a week and they are real family friendly fresh meals… I buy very little frozen food but I also like quicker options… I am a professional chef and I bet there are many other hip2savers that have great recipes too…

    • KB

That would be wonderful…I love the recipes that have been listed on this site so far!

    • JES

      Love this idea 💡

    • Jessie

Great idea. I don’t buy much frozen food and I try to cook from scratch but it takes me forever to finish a meal. I would love to see fresh easy and fast meals. Great idea.

  3. Amy

I have been using eMeals for almost a year now and while I have had to buy a few special ingredients that I might not normally have used, I have more than made up for them by not going out to eat as much. I have really enjoyed not having to “think” about what’s for dinner and being able to just look at this list and know. And, if it’s a soup and sandwiches kind of week, I have no problem saving my recipes to use later. Sometimes I use a recipe from a past week a current week because I already have the ingredients on hand. It’s really quite flexible! I also always seem to have leftovers as well, so that has never been an issue either.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Great point! Very flexible, I agree 😀

  4. Sarah

Can’t say enough great things about emeals. I love that they let you switch your plan from week to week as much as you want.

They also have great customer service. I ordered and forgot to type in a coupon code for a discount a while ago. I immediately emailed and asked if they could give me the coupon code discount anyway and they had it credited to my account the next day.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Great! Thanks for sharing Sara. 😀

  5. Jennifer

I can tell that I would have the exact same problem with emeals that Lina has. The recipes sound sooo good, though. I once bought a bottle of fish sauce for a recipe, my family hated the dish, and the fish sauce stayed in my fridge for a couple years after that. I guess if your family loves the new recipe then you can put it in your regular rotation then ingredients wouldn’t be a waste like mine was.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Great ideas thanks!

  6. Tiffany

I used to have emeals and I liked it. It was fun trying out new recipes and they were pretty simple to make. I did the Paleo meal plan.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Nice! Thanks Tiffany!

  7. Jamie

I’m obsessed with emeals. Before emeals literally we had tacos or spaghetti almost every night (one because I lack creativity and two because I never had what I needed on hand) . Now I can cook healthy and yummy foods regularly. I do find that the recipes eventually use things again (like ginger paste or rice noodles). I couple using emeals with the WalMart grocery pick up and cooking/shopping is a non issue for me. I can’t rave enough about emeals. My friends and family think I’m trying to get a referral bonus. Lol. Seriously if you’re on the fence try it!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

I agree! Thanks for sharing your experience 🍴

  8. Krissy

    How much is it?

    • cindy

Hi. Costs are on their website although you need to “hunt” for it. A full year is $60, I believe. There are shorter subscription time frames as well. Hope this helps!

  9. Frances

Thanks so much for this posting with a review of emeals. This will certainly help us eat out a lot less!! I think Dave Ramsey would approve too! Lol
I will try it out for sure now!
    Thanks again!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

      Perfect! Enjoy Frances 👍

  10. Amy

I will take the left over white wine 🙂 ! But honestly, I think we should do a recipe swap on hip2save. Maybe using the latest high value coupons? I cook from scratch every night and would love some new ideas.

  11. Pat

Thank you everybody for sharing your thoughts on this new program. It all sounds interesting. I agree that I don’t have time to use recipes except on weekends. When I get home my brothers and the grand kids want to know what is for dinner. Sometimes my granddaughter will even text me and ask before I even leave work. LOL

  12. Ashleigh

Just FYI, you may want to update this post as their cancellation method has changed. There is no easy way to cancel the free trial anymore online. I followed the steps you laid out and it took me to a set of phone numbers instead: You have to call them, and they don’t answer for a very long time. I’m still listening to their hold music. As with any subscription based product, it’s easy to get into and hard to get out of. Disappointed this was not as “no strings attached” a free trial as you made it seem.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the heads up Ashleigh! Sorry to hear you have had a difficult time with cancelling. Looks like this offer has now ended. Bummer!
