1. Hydro Flask Coffee with Flex Cup Lid

Perfect for the person that goes anywhere.

I have been using this coffee mug for the past couple of months and it’s the best coffee mug I’ve ever owned! With the airtight seal on the lid, I feel comfortable enough sipping on coffee from my white couch or in my new car because I know it’s practically spill-proof! Plus, the lid comes apart super easily and washes great in the dishwasher.

Prior to getting the Hydro Flask mug, I was lugging around a huge coffee mug that was just way too big for my hands so I really appreciate how compact and easy-to-carry this coffee mug is, which even fits perfectly in my car cupholder!

Not to mention, I’m obsessed with the innovative handle so even when my hands are full, I can still easily carry my coffee mug around.

2. YETI Rambler Coffee Mug

Perfect for the homebody or anyone who works from home.

When most people think of YETI, they likely see money signs, but you can actually score great deals on YETI throughout the year, which makes them more than worth their price! Collin, herself, even agrees these are hands down the best mugs around!

“I LOVE my YETI coffee mug! Not only is it a nice and sleek mug (I love the white color 😍), but it keeps my coffee hot for so LONG! I also love the larger size too!” – Collin, Mrs. Hip

3. Amazon Umite Chef Stainless Steel Coffee Mug

Perfect for the truly frugal Yeti lover.

If you love the design of the Yeti but want a more frugal price, this double-wall insulated coffee mug is the perfect substitute! It’s great at maintaining temperature (hot or cold) so no matter what you like to drink throughout the day, your favorite drink will taste perfect to the last sip!

4. The Oggi Stainless Steel Coffee Mug

Another budget-friendly option!

This 16-ounce coffee mug is the perfect in-between size if you’ve had your eye on the more expensive Yeti mug (which only comes in 10, 14, & 24 oz. sizes). And if you haven’t already taken notice, it also comes in some super fun colors you won’t find with the expensive brands like marble and a multi-colored iridescent rainbow! 😍

Our very own recipe blogger, Lina, is totally obsessed with it so it’s no wonder it made our best coffee mugs list! Here’s what she had to say about it:

“I love this tumbler! It’s inexpensive and does the job of keeping coffee warm. I actually use it around the house without the lid as it’s a great size and has not chipped or anything after 6 months of constant use.” – Lina, Hip sidekick

5. Amazon CIVAGO Stainless Steel Coffee Mug

Perfect for the gifter.

  • 12 oz. Coffee Mug – $12.99 each or LESS if you get a multi-pack!
    • Grab a pack of 2, 4, 8, or 12 – perfect for gifting & scoring a great value!

Looking to give some friends the gift of hot coffee? If you want a reliable mug that’s affordable and comes in large variety packs, you can score this mug in sets of up to 12 which make for perfect gifts for any holiday! It’s made of premium stainless steel, powder-coated in various gorgeous colors, BPA-free, and double-wall insulated so you can feel good about gifting this brand.

“I bought this 4-pack last year for Mother’s Day and stuffed them with gift cards and everyone seems to love them! I do have one too and use it all the time – I love it!” -Erica

6. ALBOR Triple-Insulated Travel Tumbler

Perfect for the traveling multitasker.

You’ll get the most bang for your buck with this super versatile mug and it’s even TRIPLE insulated… double insulation who?! Not only will you receive better insulation with this mug, but it also has a copper lining so you can ensure coffee will stay hot longer than ever. 🙌 Its handle is also removable, making it such a versatile mug to tote around.

Speaking of versatility, this mug comes with two different lids! One with the popular ergonomic sliding lid that mimics the more expensive brands and a splash-resistant, spill-proof sipper lid that fits the two included stainless steel straws! On top of that, you’ll even receive a cleaning brush and a bag for storing it away…although, we’re sure you’ll be using it every day regardless. Like I said… this is the most bang for your buck! Cheers!

7. YETI Rambler Tumbler with Magslide Lid

Perfect for the person who loves getting back to basics.

If you’re someone who just needs a basic travel cup then this YETI coffee mug is going to check off all the boxes on your wish list! It’s easy to carry, super easy to use with one hand, and both sizes are designed to fit in any car’s cup holder! My favorite feature about this YETI Rambler is that it comes with the Magslide Lid which helps keep your drink hot for longer by sliding closed. It’s ergonomic-friendly and really easy to keep clean.

A couple of Christmases ago, I was looking for the perfect coffee mug to gift my other half and I ended up getting him the 20 oz Rambler. He’s obsessed and has been using it every single day since and trucking it back and forth to work.

These YETI Ramblers (just like all their products) are built tough and will last a lifetime! After 2 years of constant use, ours still looks brand new!

Head here if you never want to miss a great YETI deal!

8. Ozark Trail Tumbler

Perfect for the frugal traveler who wants top performance and a very affordable option.

Ozark Trail is a huge competitor for YETI. With their super low prices, dependability, and top performance that’s matched against many of the expensive brands, this gem is a popular choice for anyone looking to stay on the lowest budget possible.

See for yourself how the Ozark Trail stacked up against YETI!

Let’s talk about one mug you shouldn’t be buying…

woman holding purple coffee tumbler mug giving thumbs down

This SUNWILL mug from Amazon is a prime example of why we test stuff here at Hip2Save. Plain and simple, if it’s not amazing, we don’t want you to spend your hard-earned money on it (no matter how cheap it may be).

Even though it has over 13,000 5-star reviews on Amazon, it did not perform nor live up to any sort of “best” standard. For that reason, we’re ditching it off our best coffee mug list.

white and purple mugs on table

Here are a few reasons it didn’t make the cut:

  • The color was way off. I love white and ordered the “Powder Coated White” however it was very much a light purple which was really disappointing. (See photos above for color comparison.)
  • The lid doesn’t slide smoothly. To open the part you sip, you have to use way more effort than the magnetic Yeti one or smooth slide Hydro Flasks which I found to be loud and a frequent inconvenience.
  • The lid feels very cheap. I’d be worried about the longevity of having this lid and whether it would really stand the test of time before it broke.
  • The lid is hard to keep clean. Coffee immediately gets trapped in all the crevices and during cleaning, it cannot be taken apart to clean more thoroughly. Of course, the lid can go in the dishwasher, but again, I’m not sure it will last long given its cheap quality.
  • The mug itself is hand-wash only. Need I say more? It definitely an inconvenience.
  • I experienced a lot of splashing. Whenever using this mug, my coffee began pooling on the lid after drinking each time. Combined with the hard-to-close lid, I experienced splashing every time I closed it. Not good when coffee droplets are splashing on your face, glasses, clothing, and white couch like I experienced.
  • It didn’t keep coffee hot. After about 55 minutes my hot coffee was cold.

Need a new water bottle? I tested the best on the market for 365 days.

Thanks for these! I love drinking my coffee in an insulated mug as a mom whose coffee often gets cold in a regular mug before I have time to finish it!
Another great option I didn’t see on your list is RTIC – they have tumblers as well as coffee mugs with handles in lots of cute colors!

    • Sara

      Thanks for the suggestion, Sarah!

    • Blue

I second RTIC brand anything. I have not been impressed with Yeti at all, but love my RTIC.

    • vowen

Yes we love RTIC mugs! Adorable colors and amazing value.

  2. MamaDavis

Thank you for sharing this helpful info! We appreciate all you do!

    • Sara

You’re so welcome!! So glad you loved this post. 🙂

  3. jat54979

With the mug that didn’t make the cut, one of your reasons why it wasn’t worth it was because the mug itself is hand wash only. Aren’t all those mugs handwash only? If that’s the case it shouldn’t be a negative point against that particular mug.

    • Michele

I don’t have information on the other brands, but we have a number of Yeti mugs and cups – they are all top-rack dishwasher safe, as are their lids.

    • Sara

Hey there! Thanks for asking! All of the Yeti and Hydro Flasks are made to be dishwasher safe now which are the ones I use daily, so handwashing is a big drawback for me. 🙂

      • jat54979

Thank you for the clarification. It’s great to know that they are making them dishwasher safe now. That was always one of the big drawbacks for me. I might have to get one for my husband now.

        • Sara

You’re so welcome! They made the switch about 2 years ago and I just happened to scoop mine up right after the big change! I have no doubt your hubby will love it! Let me know which one you decide to get. 🙂

          • Melissa W

Lol. I put my non dishwasher safe ones in the dishwasher. 😊

      • BlueWaterGirl

So strange… we handwash EVERYTHING. Yes, we have a dishwasher, but we like instant gratification. 😁

  4. Princess’Mom

I’m a big fan of the Contigo hot tumblers from Kohl’s. They have some where you’ve got to press the button to drink and as soon as you let go it’s closed. Can I tell you how great that is for someone who’s knocked over more coffees onto her computer than she wants to admit? 😉

    • Jane

Team contigo all the way. I think they are out of vogue but are so practical and have the best leak proof lids around. Plus a lot of others are too big for my cup holder or even to hold in one hand comfortably.

    • Sara

Oh gosh! Haha well, I’m so glad your computer has always pulled through thanks to your awesome mug! Thanks for stopping by to share your recommendation with us!

    • AJ

I agree that Contigo is the best! I trust the leak proof lid so much that I regularly toss it in my bag on the way to work. Sometimes it’s upside down by the time I get there and still no leaks plus it keeps my coffee piping hot.

  5. Erin

I found Ozark Trail tumblers on clearance yesterday for $1.70! I have a Yeti, a bunch of Ozark Trails, and assorted other insulated bottles/tumblers. They all perform well but the Ozark Trail cups are our daily drinkers. After years of use and some abuse, they’ve held up well. The paint is slightly scratched on some, especially the bottoms, from being placed on concrete at the pool, but no complaints at all.

  6. Jen

I’ve tried the YETI coffee mug and it just didn’t perform well for me. My coffee was cold in minutes. I’m so glad others have had luck with it. But, I tried TERVIS Stainless steel (baby yoda a.k.a. Grogu tumbler) and it works *so* well. I LOVE mine and keeps my coffee hot for hours. 🙂

    • Sara

I’m so glad you’ve found a mug that works well for you, Jen!

    • Lana

You have to put hot water in it to warm it first.

      • No thanks

Well that seems like extra steps that I don’t need in the morning lol

  7. Emily

Anything handwash only is an automatic “no” in my book. If I ruin something in my dishwasher, I didn’t want it that bad in the first place. 😂 I have a yeti tumbler I got as a gift for my birthday last March and it’s been great. Looks brand new and I use it all the time.

    • Sara

Thanks so great, Emily! We love our Yeti too! They really are worth every penny!

  8. Mona

A while back y’all recommended an insulated mug from Walmart – around $8.00. I bought one of these and it was unbelievable and equal to Yeti at 1/3 of the cost. Someone borrowed mine and never returned it and I need to get another one.

  9. Margaret H Talbot

I forgot the purpose of my post — meant to ask if you remember the name or brand of the mug. Thanks.

  10. Morgan Ross

Am I the only one who hates these for hot drinks? I want my drink to cool at some point so I can drink it without burning my mouth LOL

    • Ana

    • Mamamia

Lol I use to think that too..what i end up doing is leaving the lid off after I get to work at my desk. But I need leakproof lid to get me out the door, through the car ride, and into the building with. Once I’m where I need to be, I take the lid off and it cools much more gradually than if it were in a mug.
Another thing I did the other day was I actually washed the inside of the yeti with cold water to cool my coffee to a good temp so I could enjoy it even in the car .

    • Mamamia

And if I drink hot coffee too fast, I find myself needing to go bathroom much quicker. The gradual sips saves me from the bathroom trip for at least two hours!

    • Morgan Ross

  11. Niki

I know that these are ridiculously expensive but man I must say one of my best purchases this past year! Bluetooth connected to your phone to keep your coffee at your preferred temp for 1-2 hours. I purchased the 14 oz over the 10 oz which was $30 more but glad I did. They also have a travel mug one, which I don’t need but for those who do I would seriously consider it. Amongst the people I know I have only heard how much people have loved that they got these!

  12. Maria B

Love the: Insulated Skinny Stainless Steel Tumbler-18 oz Coffee Tumbler with Flip-Top Lid by Fine Dine sold on Amazon. It is totally leakproof and keeps the coffee HOT for at least 3 hours!!! Pretty colors and a deal at $12.75. Only drawback is that it is not dishwasher safe.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing, Maria B! Good to know what has been your favorite! 🙌🤗
