Price aside, who has the best one?

    • Erin

“Best” is relative. Someone below is complaining about the dimness of one she bought, whereas I purposely bought one (probably 20 years ago or so) with very small “lights” because I thought the ones like these are garish. It’s all about what you like, and even that changes over time.

  2. Kaylee

They had big ones at my Aldi!

  3. MrsBK

I love these but the smaller green one I bought at Target last year is so dim. U can barely see the lights unless it’s dark in the room or very low light. Maybe that’s how it’s suppose to be but the one my Mom had was not like this. Anyone have one from these other places to compare?

    • BJ

I bought mine at Hobby Lobby and it is very dim with the small bulb that came with it so I took that out and replaced it with the tall electric candle lights for windows. It is much brighter now.

    • LadyBinTX

Did you change it to an LED bulb? I changed all mine and I love the brightness level now. Happy Holidays!

  4. Mamabeartofivecubs

Would this be a nice gift to give a mother in-law who literally has everything?

    • J.H.509

Yes. I think she would love it as a keepsake for years to come.

  5. danafrench

I bought 2 at Lowe’s for my daughters. Very nice quality complete w the faux snow. Lights are bright and perfect replica of the ones I grew up with. Bargain at $10

    • JulietteY

I’ve had my eye on that one for awhile now. Thanks for the review!

    • Lora

No Lowe’s in my entire state has these. Even neighboring states are out of stock. I am so bummed!

  6. Maree637

I purchased the larger one this week at Hobby Lobby and I love it. It is bright except the star on top doesn’t light up.

  7. Lisa

I have 29 of these..all vintage. All different sizes (one being 46 inches high) I love them. My husband not so much, so no “new” ones fore me lol

    • HBee

Lisa, I was in a thrift last week and they had a vintage one for $45. So crazy how they have come back in fashion, and respect your vintage collection!

  8. amanda m

The other thing to consider is that a lot of these are operated with a “C” battery. The one from Hobby Lobby is corded and the star lights up but isn’t as bright as the rest of the bulbs. I still love it compared to the other ones that I had looked at at Michaels and Aldi.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the helpful feedback! Good to know how they compare!

  9. justineconroe

My son and I painted our own at a pottery studio about 10 years ago. Maybe look into that?!?

  10. Happy

Has anyone seen replacement bulbs anywhere? Mine needs 2-3 lights and a star.

    • helenmtowne

Try Hobby lobby or Amazon. I have bought some at both.

    • Cherrill

      I purchased mine on amazon.

  11. Debbie

i found one at Family dollar — $5 it’s about 10 inches high. has about 15 lights not the best or brightest.. but i love it

  12. Cherrill

Walmart has 16” trees in green, pink, and white for $25.00.

  13. Maria

Don’t forget thrift stores! They are definitely better quality, more sustainable, and you can buy replacement bulbs on ebay if needed. I have 3, all from the thrift. Probably paid $10 for all. The huge 18″ with an attached music box was only 2.99! The cashier said it was “fugly”, and that was about 5 years ago. Worth a lot more now!

  14. janet

HSN has them on clearance, got two for $19.99

  15. Ann

I got the one from Lowe’s. It was really a good buy for the size and really bright. Only thing it runs on 3 AA batteries. I may change out to electric after this year.

  16. Amy

My Mom just gave me ours that my Great Aunt painted dated 1979!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How sweet! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!

  17. Lucas Bennetts

Five below also has 7in ones for only $5. They use an LED tealight type light, so maybe not the best, but they are super cute!
