Happy Earth Day! 🌍

One day just isn’t enough to celebrate Mother Earth and all she has to offer us. No matter what country or city you live in, today is a day to find a new appreciation and open ourselves to learning new ways to become more eco-friendly.

So if you’re looking to indulge yourself with everything Earth Day, then you’ve come to the right place because I’m sharing some of our all-time favorites and most popular posts in honor of Earth Day so we can help you save money and the planet – all at once.

making heart over globe of the earth

Here are things you can do to celebrate Earth Day:

1. Invest in a reusable water bottle to save on plastic.

Did you know that bottled water is ranked the #1 U.S. beverage by volume sold? According to the Container Recycling Institute“more than 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills and incinerators every day – a total of about 22 billion last year.” 😳That makes switching to a reusable water bottle a no-brainer!

Luckily, I personally rated 5 of the most popular water bottles, so if you’re shopping around for a great water bottle, you can stop by here and see which one will best suit you and your kid’s needs. 👍

2. Help save the oceans by using our favorite reusable straws.

Approximately 500 million plastic straws are used each day in America alone and it’s been calculated that by 2050 there will be more weight in straws than fish in the oceans. It’s no wonder that many larger companies are making the switch to a no straw policy.

Not only are straws extremely harmful and even fatal to marine life due to getting stuck or ingested, but research is even finding traces of plastic in Sea Salt94% of tap water, and shellfish. 🙁

If you’re looking to stop using plastic straws, we shared our favorite ones to use, which ones to stay away from, and even shared more information on the damage plastic straws are doing. Make the switch now!

Want to help the oceans and marine life even more?

I love these 4ocean bracelets (my kids enjoy collecting all the colors). Not only are they cute to wear, but each purchase of a bracelet cleans up one pound of trash in the water. You can choose specific colors that represent your favorite animals from sea turtles to dolphins.

Plus, if you’re really committed to helping clean the oceans, they even offer a monthly subscription where you can score one new bracelet every month for $20, which means every month you’ll also be contributing to a cleaner ocean. You’ll even be the first to score new colors, earn rewards, and stay up to date on the latest news.

3. Turn your trash into total treasure with our hacks.

One thing our Earth hates is trash and if you hadn’t thought of it before, there are actually many ways to repurpose trash so you don’t have to throw it out and contribute to the overwhelming amounts of garbage in landfills.

Lina shared tons of genius hacks that you can do with your trash – from old candles, medicine bottles, unused shoe boxes, and so much more, check out all the ways you can get the most out of the stuff you’d typically throw out!

4. You can ditch plastic baggies forever with these wraps.

I recently realized the number of plastic sandwich baggies I was wasting when packing 3 lunches a day for my kids. Every day, I was using at least 3 baggies per lunch! 😱That’s 45 sandwich bags in just one week – never mind the random bags I was using for other things when it was convenient.

That’s about 4 boxes of these Ziploc sandwich bags per month! If I stayed on that track, I was projected to spend about $172.32 or more just on baggies that had a lifespan of fewer than 24 hours. 😳Talk about so much unnecessary waste! And over the course of 10 years, I would be averaging about 21,600 bags and spending about $1,723, just to make my kid’s school lunches. 😱

When I tried these reusable Bees Wraps I was sold, plus I knew I was making a significant difference for our planet. Bee’s Wraps are also naturally antimicrobial and can be reused for up to an entire year! They’re made from GOTS-certified organic cotton, sustainably sourced beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin. All of the ingredients combined create a malleable and easy-to-use food wrap that can be used over and over again!

5. Silicone lids are a leftover game-changer.

Have more food to cover? Well, I’ve got ya covered, friends! Silicone stretch lids are a new favorite of mine and they help drastically cut down on plastic wrap. They’re completely food safe and also don’t contain any BPA or toxic chemicals.

I recently wrote a full review here where I discuss all of the benefits and savings of using silicone lids.

6. Save the planet & $35K with our favorite household swaps.

Don’t forget you can join the Arbor Day club for $10 and receive 10 trees … also as an FYI 4ocean is a scam – essentially these bracelets are paying the founders a handsome salary and giving them all expenses paid vacations so they can go surf (not pick up trash)…. the people who actually clean up the garbage are almost entirely volunteer crews or are “managers” who are paid peanuts- please do your research on companies before buying from them or donating to them … the biggest issue with ocean garbage is coming from 3rd and 2nd world counties that have no trash or recycling management systems – they just throw the garabage anywhere and everywhere- it’s truly horrifying (even if you stay at a nice hotel in say Bali and think the garbage is picked up- it is picked up and then just dumped a few miles down the road into a river (which then goes to the ocean))…. for real change to happen these countries need to be educated in caring for the earth/why it’s important to have disposal systems and recycling – if that’s in place, I would estimate ocean garbage and plastics to go down 95% or more!
