A state stimulus check might be headed your way in 2022.

Some states are providing economic relief via tax rebates.

Though the federal government probably won’t send stimulus checks in 2022, you might be receiving some help from your state. In the latest attempt to combat inflation and stave off a recession, well over a dozen states have decided to send income tax rebate checks to their residents. Most of these refunds are for small amounts (so don’t get too excited) but we do have the scoop on who qualifies and when to expect a payment!

Find your state below and see if you qualify for a stimulus payment:

Mine was sent to an account I either no longer have or never had in the first place. Guess im not getting one.

    • Park

Same thing happened to me, I updated mine Monday and now mine was sent to an old bank account and the IRS is not taking any calls so now I have no clue what to do

      • Tatiana

this happened to me too! im nervous I wont get the payment

      • Tiffany

From what I’ve gathered, The checks will be rejected and sent back to IRS. In a few days go back to the website to update payment preference and or account number.

        • Lori

And where do you do that at! Mine went to my husbands account which I closed out because he died

          • Mack MAKSHAT

I have the same issue. they used my 2018 tax return not my 2019 ones … May be because i scheduled my payment on July 15th with the new bank account registered. I also went ahead today after I knew the IRS sent the payment to my old “closed” account, I went ahead and submitted a payment to iIRS with $1.00 just to desperately try to refresh their system

But finally I got this helpful peace of info:

This is the IRS answer on their website’s “get my payment”‘s FAQs:

My bank account information has changed since I filed. Can I update it using the tool?

Yes, in some situations. Get My Payment cannot update direct deposit bank account information after an Economic Impact Payment has been scheduled for delivery. To help protect against potential fraud, the tool also does not allow people to change direct deposit bank account information already on file with the IRS. However, people who did not use direct deposit on their last tax return to receive a refund, or when their direct deposit information was inaccurate and resulted in a refund check, will be able to provide that information and speed their payment with a deposit into their bank account.

          • Littlebeary

            I’m sarry about your husband.

    • Becca

I was so scared i woke up did not get any money and the irs has a different account number. My man got his yesterday i to his account but the irs “wheres my payment” thing gave even his a different account number it didn’t match his card or account number but he got his and he got it yesterday….so i still have hopes its coming. But there is also no way to get ahold of the irs and my tax people keep says they are not responsible to call the irs.

      • jill

        Let me ask this—
So your other half received his money, but when he checked the irs sight, he had a different account number? I am asking because right now, I am mad as hell because I did not receive anything and it has the wrong account number and looks as if it has be sent out.

    • Elizabeth Bellows Bassett

Mine says payment status not available. My husband and I don’t use the direct deposit feature. No clue at all.

      • Rosalyna

Mine says the same thing. I googles what that meant and apparently, its some bugs in the new site. Mine says we cannot determine your eligibility, which had me a little freaked out but tons pof people are getting that message. I guess we just need to hang tight.

        • Suz A.

I had to change the “West” in my address to just “W” and then it found me!

        • Vicky

Mine too it’s says it can’t be determinate at this time. I file every year , same account number, I file jointly but my husband has itin number , but I’m the head of household, anyone in this situación.

      • Jade

Mine say we can’t determine your eligibility at this time. I was claimed as a dependent in 2018 but not 2019 and I meet all requirements to get one. My daughter’s mother and I share an account but are not married. Help!

    • Tammy

My stimulus went to a closed account also. I called the bank and they stated that it will be sent back to the IRS and we need to contact the IRS (that is a joke). There is HOPE (I hope LOL). Once the payment has been sent to our accounts the IRS will be sending a letter stating that the payment was sent. It will also give you instructions (supposedly) on what to do if we did not receive our payment. Therefore, I believe you will still get one but we will probably be in the category of those getting them a year later. UGH!!

    • Paula

Same thing happen too me don’t what can I do?

    • Dee

I find it funny that mine was also sent to the wrong closed inactive Bank Of America account I haven’t used in 15 years! Sounds like a scam how can an government agency be so incompetent!

    • roosterred

Obvious question did you call the bank that the payment was sent to?

    • Rob Anthe

Mine went to an account closed for a year
Govt is very inept because I get a DD every month for my va disability but no we couldn’t send it there not to mention ( weeks out of work with no unemployment yet what a mess

  2. Angela

I dont understand why we couldn’t update our information before the government sent our stimulus check. You know some people actually need this money for bills not just to party with or blow like I have seen many doing.

    • Mic

I updated my info Monday payment still went to old closed acct

    • Karen

What does it matter to you what people do with it?

    • Gary Reed

I truly don’t understand either cause they have add some numbers to my account number I have 14 number now it 16 to 17 numbers I don’t what’s wrong with that Get my payment app should be able to change info before they tell u that ur money is going to be direct deposit in accounts smh. How does the irs create something but dont give others options.

      • Lora Harvey

Mine went to my tax preparers account because i get the advance every year so my return hoes into their account and then the cut me the difference. I called the tax preparer and she said no it would not go into that because that is a virtual account and once it is used it closes itself and no way to get the money back. The account number irs has thar they deposited into on the 15th has my last 4 of my social showing as the last 4 of the deposit account number but there is 13 numbers on my tax papers but onpy 12 on irs sight. I do get SSI widows benefits so i dont know what the account number for the direct express card is. This is all a big mess. I probably wont get mine and if i do it will be the final ones is September

        • Marlo

Mine give the last 4 o FCC my social and stated it was deposited there how so that is my social security number so now what

          • Jasmine

Let me know when you find out because the last 4 is my SS as well and I don’t even know what that means

            • Monica

Have you heard anything back , mine as well says it was deposited on the 15th to the last 4 of my social

              • Yamay

Same here. Last 4 digits of ss number. Deposited on 15th. Where is it. I have dirwct deposit on my tax return.

                • SaTricia Colbert

Mine says the same thing, its was directed on the 15th to an account ending in ss#. Still havent figured out what that means.

                  • Misty

I know this is an old post but that happened to deposit date 15th and last 4 ssn but it went into my account on the 15th. And now this time around says deposit date jan4th2021 with the last 4 of my ssn i didnt get it yet.. But im expecting it to hit tonight. I think it’s because if you e filed they by your ssn. But they look at ur taxes for the account number.

                    • Yahshere Orr

                      Did you get it today?

                    • Rebekah Hudson

I am curious also. It has last 4 ss of my husband who passed in november. Last stimulus went to his bank acct which is that acct is on hold until i can close it out with his official death certificate.

                • Shawn

Mine says same thing. What is issue.

              • Chas

                • Crickett Swearingen

I got the same message. Any answers??

                • Cherice

Did u ever find out?? Same exact thing with me!!

                  • Jalaina mattison

                    • Bria

Same here. Any update would be appreciated

  3. Aaron

The irs website shows that it will be deposited today and my bank is not showing any deposit does anyone know the reason for this any info would be greatly appreciated 🙂

    • Franklin

Mine says the same thing. Do you or any owe child support?

      • Aaron

No I don’t owe child support

      • Becca

My man owed child support but under 500 and they just offet it then sent him the rest.

    • Franklin

When I go to irs.gov where’s my payment it said it was deposited today. I called the bank and nothing there but I owe child support and it said in the offset $1700 was took 2x today. That was mine, my wife n our two kids. Why would it say deposited to my checking if it went to offset. Anyone else’s say this???

      • Theresa

That’s normal..They sent it to your account but the treasury offset intercepted it for child support. That happened to me last year. This year my husband only owed 2000 back support so they took that and deposited the other 1000 in my account.

      • Martina Lara

Oh wow, so they are garnishing for child support!?::/

    • Charnetta Williams

Mine is showing in a bank account ending with last 4 of my social never even had an account that the numbers ended in last 4. I think it’s bullshit.

      • Noel muniz

Mines to did u receive any other info

      • Brianna

I’m so glad I saw your post. Mine says the same thing with the last 4 of my social and I have no idea what that means. I checked my sister’s who already received her payment and it shows the actual last 4 of her account so I know that mine must be an error.

      • Alexis

It means you’re getting a check

        • Candice

Where did you see the information that acct ending in last four of ss# means it is being sent in the mail? Curious as I also had this happen to me and I have desperately looked in everywhere to figure out what that meant.

          • Tj

Didnyou get it by check? This 2nd stimulus says the last 4 of my social too?

            • Rebekah

              Curious here too.

              • Shontrese

Me to I’m curious how did they receive itb

                • Julie C.

Did any of you get it? Mine is showing the last 4 of my SSN too and I haven’t received it yet. Said it was deposited on February 3. I’m seeing this though:
                  https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/2a982c85/files/uploaded/stimulustpg%20%281%29.pdf
“The IRS is distributing Economic Impact Payments directly to taxpayers. If the IRS website indicates funds were sent to TPG those funds will be rejected back to the IRS. The IRS may indicate funds were deposited to an account ending in the last four digits of your Social Security number. For your protection any account that was established at TPG to facilitate processing of your tax refund was closed when you received your original tax refund, and that account no longer exists. TPG does not have any visibility into the status, amount or timing of your EIP and we are unable to answer any questions regarding these payments.”
Did you guys get your refund through Turbo Tax as well?

      • Sherri Vieth

        Same here
What is that? Where did it go?

      • Sandra Ascencio

Mine too! I dont understand why. I’ve had my bank account for 9 years already.

My husband got his yesterday after 5pm. And the irs thing says it was deposited today. So i think they need to fix the irs thing. Accounts not matching and dates aren’t matching

      • Jess

Did you file separately from your husband? If not, it all went to his account.

      • Starr

Same here.. it’s telling me it’ll be posted in my account today but the last 4 digit account numbers are wrong. They are not even close to my ss# so I’m just clueless. I have 3 kids to feed and provide for.

    • Nicole Harris

mine says the same thing : (

    • Felicia E Hutchens

      Having same issue

    • willowcat

Banks sometimes take a day or two to show electronic deposits. Happens to me all the time.

    • Issy

It depends on how quickly your bank processes direct deposits

    • Martina Lara

It’s probably going to be sent (paper check) through the mail. In most instances, if you didn’t get it by Wednesday via direct deposit, your probably getting it in the mail… If your situation is:
1.) You updated your deposit account info on their new portal and –
A.) It didn’t match the deposit account on your last filed tax return. (Even though it doesn’t advise you of this before entering the account you chose at the moment)
B.) You filed with Turbo Tax or certain other DIY sites and had Tax Filing Fees and, or got a Refund Advance. Why? Because your refund, first goes into a 3rd party bank for payment. Then they deposit into your account.
C.) If you accidentally entered routing / account number incorrect, or clicked saving instead of checking, in some cases.
2.) You didn’t need to file a tax return, for certain reasons, such as –
A.) You recieve SSI, Railroad Retirement, Social Security, and a few others. You can view listing on irs.gov
**The deposit dates, are not yet updated to this IRS portal. Check back around the 24th, possibly sooner.
C.) Possibly, but hope not, your payment could be subject to garnishment for child support. Though this is not verified or information by a reliable source, however it was floating around on another open community site. Then I looked into it, and there’s a good possibility that this could be garnished for Child Support. Although congress did put guardrails to protect Student Loans or Back Taxes, etc. from being garnished, it didn’t protect against other government entities like the state. I always thought those two entities didn’t tap into the other when it comes to one’s personal debt, owed to state or federal government l. But that’s idk yet to be determined.
3.) Anybody who have not received their stimulus payment directly deposited between the
9th – 13th April, and your concerned due to closed account. You will be getting your check mailed to you. Unless your tax return was filed 2019 or 18, and none of the above criteria relate to you, if the IRS has your correct info, and their portal has no clear information, or it hasn’t yet given you a payment date. If you submitted your information Wednesday, your status should have updated a DD 18th April (Friday). It’s according to resources experiencing similar issues, and their status said: YOUR PAYMENT WILL BE MAILED OUT ON APRIL 24th 2020.
      Note: this persons claims-
Filed with Turbo Tax DIY, had fees and a digital advance refund.
Didn’t see a stimulus deposit Mon Tue Wed, while others were getting theirs.
Went on irs.gov noticed the portal,
Site said, they do not have bank information and to submits the account you would like your payment to be deposited.
The information they claimed to have entered was for a different account, because they said turbo debit card website was having log on issues
And others kept saying the deposits were not processed vis DD but only through mail.
So after submitting alternate account, nothing happened until Friday.

Although waiting for funds is always going to seem like eternity, and anxiety kicks in, etc… Especially at a time when we are all dealing with other things, that we are not familiar with, and times are trying. But be patient and before we know it, the money will be there and gone.

However, everyone who gets a payment will also be getting a letter in the mail, to inform the recipient of the payment, the amount, and in which form it was issued to you. If you did not receive a payment as it is described, or at all rather, then I would advise to get in contact with the treasury department soon after.

Hope this helps, thanks. Social distancing? #MyFaceMasks2020

      I hope this helps, I

      • Martina Lara

        CORRECTION: BETWEEN 9 – 15 APRIL. )Not 13th)

    • Brandi Cope

I’m just wondering if this was ever resolved. I’m having the same problem. Said it’d be there yesterday and it still hasn’t. I’m getting very worried

  4. Philip Bartlett

What do I do if the account number they have isn’t an active account

    • Tarquecia

That’s what I need to know.

      • Dee

I have the same issue. My funds went to an old bank account that is closed. I even did my 2019 taxes but I haven’t received that money yet so I think because they don’t have record of me receiving funds into a verified account they went by my 2018 taxes and that information. I called my bank and they said they rejected a lot of transactions. I said WOW during a pandemic when the government is releasing funds to help the economy you reject it. Now I am afraid I won’t see that money for months maybe a year. They do no have my updated banking information.

  5. Lynette M Gaters

I put in my info on the first page and the last four of my social security number pop up saying it will be deposited today anyone else experience this on the portal. I haven’t

put in my direct deposit info yet

    • Nikki

Yes the same thing happened to me it says my account number and shows 16 numbers and the last 4 are my ssn what does that mean?

      • Lora Harvey

        Yes what does that mean?

    • Emily

Ours say the same thing too. It says it was deposited today into an account with the last 4 digits of my husbands ssn

    • 1stl8e1980

I got the same, yet I didnt do direct deposit for past 2 years of filing so idk where it is

    • Sandra Ascencio

I checked as well. Same thing. It says it would be deposited today into my account ending with the last 4 digits of my SS . I haven’t used my direct deposit for tax refund so idk what they mean by it. Crossing my fingers. Blessings

  6. Titus Hampton

Mine was sent to an account I either no longer have or never had in the first place. Guess im not getting one. Where’s help when you need it.

    • Martina Lara

      Probably out golfing.. :/

  7. Tricia

Got mine today at 2 am! No issues…we are 2 adults and 1 child and we got $2,900 even.

  8. Des

Same issue like you guys. 2019 taxes has all of my updated info, and I filed that weeks ago. They decided to use my 2018 tax info for the stim check. I’ve been waiting on the phone with my old bank for so long I fell asleep. I can’t find anywhere on the site to update my payment info, can’t talk to anyone. They got the information right when they wanted to take money out of my account. Why screw up now, y’know? It’s so aggravating.

    • Park

Same thing mine was sent to an old account, was your old bank able to send it to your new account???

      • Patricia A Wilson

The same thing happened to and I need my money soooooooo bad had surgery haven’t worked for 3weeks what do we do

  9. Tamara Washington

The same thing here. I closed that acct over a year ago. I used my current acct for the past two years for my tax returns

  10. Michelle Denise Unkle

What do I do if it says ” unable to determine eligibility “?

    • Jamie

I wish I knew . I went in to give my direct depisit information and that is was the same response I got.

    • Beth

Me and my husband both got this message. No idea why or what it means.

    • cregar23

My husband and I got the same “unable to determine message. We filed a 2018 return but have not yet filed a 2019 return. We are still making monthly payments to IRS so they have our bank account information to withdraw payment every month. I hope that is sufficient for them to issue payment back to it?

      • Alejandra M

Same situation for me – both he and I have that message, and we make monthly payments. We filed in 2018, but not 2019 yet.

        • Chas

What if it say it have been sent?out on the 15th,To an old address. It is also showing The Last Four Of My Social security number as the account number,I Don’t live at address anymore, I’m lost about the account that show my last four social security number, I did file 2018 with a tax preparation company,I spoke to him he told me that if it was sent to his bank his bank is returning all payments back to the IRS, The IRS have an old address on file,so now what?what do I do ,I Filed my 2019 By Mail As of Like March 15,2020. It’s not even show if this is the reason because when you file a paper return it take 6 week before any information is provided,I really need to No If My refund for my taxes are being processed and to no where did this,Money that was so called sent out on The 15th of April go,With The Account number end in with the last for of my social security Number.

    • annie

Just wait and try again the next day. They stated they will be updating the site once a day and just may not have gottwn yoie information in the system yet. There are a lot of people in the US and they have to be manually inputted.

    • Lib

I got the same answer on mine and my husbands. I am going to check it again tonight

    • Suz A.

I had to put a “W” instead of “West” in my address to get past that message!

  11. kanick

Yes. We got ours this morning. Used the same account that we had our direct deposit for 2018 & 2019 refunds. We were going to change banks earlier this year but never got around to it.

  12. Berkeley Smith

I went to the website, and noticed I couldn’t change my direct deposit information. They are sending a $3400 check to an account that I no longer have access to, and there is no way to fix it. I’m probably gonna get evicted so what happens when they mail my check in what’s purported to be months from now to an old address? The worst part is I was laid off because of COVID-19, developed anxiety issues from fear of getting sick, I’m behind in rent, and utilities, because of this virus, my tax refund was apparently offset and I cant get in touch with a live agent so I have no idea if the money is coming or just gone, and to top it all off, there’s little to no food or toiletries in my town. The money is supposed to be deposited on April 15, 2020 so I’m highly upset and just plain scared that my family is going to suffer and lose everything we’ve built.

My husband got his yesterday after 5pm. And the irs thing says it was deposited today. So i think they need to fix the irs thing. Accounts not matching and dates aren’t matching

      • Karyn

Becca, why do you keep replying with the SAME EXACT comment? I though it was me at first, scrolling incorrectly, but then noticed that no, you just keep posting the same exact thing? Please stop already! I want to read new posts, and I keep scrolling and seeing yours over and over again! Are you a robot?

    • Stan

More than likely you received a Tax loan or used a tax professional if you have last 4 as bank account #… IF YOU RECEIVED A 2019 REFUND TO SAME ACCOUNT ..YOU WILL GET IT !!! … If account is a CLOSED BANK ACCOUNT its going to THAT BANK ACCOUNT ON 2019 RETURN ….REGARDLESS

on the phone with closed bank acct … YOU MUST GET TO COLLECTIONS regular CS does not have the ability to move money …

      HOPE THIS HELPS

      • Brittany

So if your money was sent to a closed acct if you ask to speak to collections they can help?

  13. Sandra

HOLD THE PHONE EVERYONE,!! It was announced yesterday that Donald Trump has to place his signature on all the checks…so fear not. Your check will be released once he signs it….I mean, it’s direct deposited so how is he going to sign that, right?! Lol. But in a nutshell, people will complain regardless of what anyone does for them….so when the stimulus money runs out, which it will before the economy returns back to normal, how many people will be asking the government to give them more money? Again, this is common human behavior during a panic, or crisis.

  14. TC

Filed my 2019 taxes and they cashed my check. Website says “Can’t determine my eligibility “. If they use 2018, I will not get anything. That’s the reason I filed 2019 right away!

    • Jess

They’re not depositing into the accounts people paid out of, it appears. You’ll have to provide your info if you didn’t get a return.

  15. John

Irs sent my check to a closed bank account from last years does anyone know what to do the bank said there sending my check back to Irs

    • Ella B

      Call your bank

    • Tia

Same thing happened to me and my father in law filed my 2019 with updated information and still sent to my old account. Was on the phone with chase for 1hour and 30 mins before I connected to someone and they said they would send it back to irs but that doesn’t tell me if their fixing it or mailing it to me…ugh!!!!

      • John

They told me they are sending it back to Irs I’ll get paper check but there not being sent out till may

      • juma

You should get a letter in the mail in a week or so detailing your money. Once you get it there should be some information about what you should do in the event there were issues receiving your money and you should also be able to give them the correct banking info. I would wait until you get that letter in hand so that there won’t be any more delays due to trying to correct it now on the IRS website. Not to confuse all the transactions. Good luck

  16. Paula

We also received a very odd amount with change even. Have no idea how anyone arrived at this number

  17. Shubham

I Received only +2.15 as pending. What does it mean ?

    • juma

Sometimes some banks will put a hold on income checks that are not your regular direct deposits for payroll or a government issued check that you get regularly every month like Social Security etc. My bank does this and it can take 2 or more days to clear, but some times they will deposit or release a portion of it. Good luck

    • Xinshuo

I also received a weird number, not in whole dollars. Why?

  18. juma

It looks like the IRS website is open now for those who need to change their banking info. I think for those whose direct deposits were sent to a closed account, may have to wait a few days to see of any information is posted on how to fix this issue. There should be some updates because I’m sure a lot of people are/will run into this issue, so it would be very beneficial for them to post a FAQ section. I would suggest trying to email/chat customer service with your bank (if they are available/working) and ask them what the procedures are for direct deposits being rejected, so that you know exactly how to follow up and figure out what direction you need to go in next. You also (not sure) email the IRS with this question and possibly get some kind of helpful information. You can also now track your stimulus check (even though some have already been sent out) to see what information you can gather as to what may have happened/ when you can expect a direct deposit or paper check/ and add you banking info if the IRS didn’t/don’t have your current info. I would also check your state’s Governor’s website to see if any additional information is posted there. Good luck everyone stay safe and positive. Thanks for all your hard work and timely updates.

  19. Sue

My husband and I got ours $2400.00 today direct deposit so now we get to spend it on property tax which $2200.00

  20. Theresa

Same here 🙁 Deposited to old account. May have to wait till this letter arrives in the mail…
    According to irs.gov:
Payment recipients: watch for an IRS letter
For security reasons, the IRS plans to mail a letter about the economic impact payment to the taxpayer’s last known address within 15 days after the payment is paid. The letter will provide information on how the payment was made and how to report any failure to receive the payment. If a taxpayer is unsure they’re receiving a legitimate letter, the IRS urges taxpayers to visit IRS.gov first to protect against scam artists.

    • Kyle M

YES this just sucks. I filed my tax return for 2019 weeks ago and even received a refund already. My account information on the 2019 tax return was correct and my refund direct deposited into my current account. Then for some reason the IRS decided to send the stimulus check to the bank account on my 2018 tax return. Problem is that I closed that account and have had no activity on it for 8-9 months. Why the IRS is so stupid that they used an old account is beyond me. They are good at pulling money out of the correct accounts when they want to … they are supposed to be helping people and this is really frustrating. I hope someone starts to run the IRS like a business and updates their systems. This is a shame that our country cannot have modern systems that allow for information to be updated real time while simultaneously protecting its taxpayers from fraud scams. I mean come on .. this is not that hard and frankly it is such a shame. Now I guess I have to wait 2 weeks for a letter that will tell me what I need to do? Idiotic and 3rd world.

  21. Amber

Our full amount was deposited this morning. Surprised but grateful.

There’s a YouTube channel by the name of ClearValue Tax. He does a very good job of explaining the stimulus checks and answering various questions. It might be helpful info to those who haven’t received theirs yet.

    • aimee

Thanks for the great resource, Amber. Stay healthy and well!

  22. Tami Gobely

What does the message …”Can’t determine eligibility….” mean? I know we qualify, as does our 25 year old son but when I look all of us is on the site, I got this same message?

    • Rebecca Busler

I got that too…I have been on SS and SSI for 5 years and on disability since 1997..I am 68…..I have no idea what the problem is…

    • Liz

I got that same message but tried again two hours later with them saying it will be deposited tomorrow 🙂

    • Mary A

My husband and I both got this response???!!! They have gotten our 28% for 40 years we should gave been first!

  23. Becca

I was so scared i woke up did not get any money and the irs has a different account number. My man got his yesterday i to his account but the irs “wheres my payment” thing gave even his a different account number it didn’t match his card or account number but he got his and he got it yesterday….so i still have hopes its coming. 24. Jason

Shows the last 4 of social on account number? Does anyone know what that means

    • Deirdre

Same here! I want to know too

    • Kelly S Fowler

Did u find out wat this mean

      • Justin

        Getting a check

  25. Tia

If you bank with J.P. Morgan Chase and your account is closed their sending it back to irs and then treasury will mail you check in the mail! It won’t let me post the picture

    • Latoya

I have boa and they’re doing the same thing. Did they give an ETA as to when the check will be mailed

  26. amy

Same problem..Interesting they finally launched this website portal on the very day they deposit checks, with no way to update deposit infomation

  27. Tia

    EVERYONE READ THIS!!!!!!!!
As Treasury indicated, banks must make their own decisions whether to seize CARES Act payments. The Prospect reached out to five leading banks—Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citibank, and U.S. Bank—asking if they planned to use the payments to offset delinquent debts. Only JPMorgan Chase provided an answer: While they would normally use incoming funds to offset a negative balance on a charged-off account, for these payments it will return the money to the government. “The U.S. Treasury can then determine the address to mail the full stimulus amount and ensure the former customer gets the full benefit,” spokeswoman Anne Pace said. She clarified that this would only be in the circumstance of a charged-off account, leaving open the possibility of using a directly deposited payment to offset loans.

  28. Savannah

I was supposed to get 2,400 but only got 1,200, my husband and I filed jointly and our AGI was under the bracket it’s supposed to be at. However he doesn’t have a bank account, only I do. I just didn’t think that would matter since we’re married I thought his would go into my account. Can anyone give me some insight?

    • Briana

We filed jointly too. Total sum went to my husband’s account because we used his account to file tax.

  29. Ryan Seiler

I added my account number today and once I was done it showed the wrong account number that it was going to be deposited into. Anyone else have this problem?

  30. Observant mom

Wow! Why are people still whining about their older kids being excluded? I see a lot of “it’s not fair” here and life is not fair. In life very rarely does anyone give you a handout. Life is not fair. Suck it up and move on. I understand that some of you are relying on help right now, but that is on you. We all know we need to have a savings for emergencies. Hopefully after all this you do get back on your feet and you will start saving for an emergency.

    • Debby

Couldn’t have said it better. Sometimes greedy people just continue to stand there with their hand out wanting more and more and more. But they don’t seem to understand is all of us are going to pay for this with bigger taxes ….

    • Mere

Some people don’t make enough money to save. Some people just faced an emergency a few weeks or months ago and were building their savings back up. Some people have lost their jobs weeks ago and have already ate through their emergency fund. How about you save your judgements like you do your money? Be thankful you don’t need it.

      • Observant mom

I’m sorry, but everyone can save. Whether or not they are willing to do it is an entirely different thing.

        • Nice human

This is absolutely not accurate. Your priveledge is showing.

          • Be better

It absolutely is accurate. Just can’t waste money on tattoos, alcohol ect. It’s called discipline.

          • Observant mom

It is very accurate. Stop buying your coffee every morning, stop eating out, cut your cable or netflix, cut out alcohol, don’t pay for amazon prime, bring down your cell phone plan to not include data, wear out the clothes and shoes you have rather than buying more. Saving is possible for everyone, it’s just that most people are materialistic and want to live beyond their means. That privilege of mine that you claim I have is not privilege, it’s good money management skills. I know the difference between needing and wanting something.

    • Joann

Oh my goodness, my thoughts exactly!! Between that and the stimulus checks, so much greed. What the people complaining about do not understand is, by filing their child 17 and above as a dependent, they (Mom and Dad) already received a tax break on their taxes. You cant have it both ways. AND there is a good chance that 17+ yr old is on unemployment due to Covid19, so they are getting an extra $600 a WEEK anyway. Just how much money does a person need when its just now a month since businesses started closing??

      • Ella

Actually the new tax code eliminated exemptions per dependent altogether and eliminated child tax credits for 17 year olds, so (Mom and Dad) claiming a 17 year old high school student as a dependent gives NO tax break whatsoever under the new tax code. So, they are not “getting it both ways” as you say. Most high school 17 year olds are not eligible or filing for unemployment. It’s a shame that people are hurting right now and you are judging them that they are being greedy when you don’t know their situation in the slightest.

    • Linda

Ok, relax Karen. Not everyone has the luxury of having an emergency fund. Many live paycheck to paycheck. It is NOT on them. Many people are literally FORCED to not work. Have a little empathy.

    • lori-0

Have a little compassion for people and this is not a handout!

    • Gramma C

You know sometimes things aren’t fair OK? Things are done wrong mistakes are made people are owed certain things and it’s OK to say it’s not fair sometimes.

  31. Linda Crowley

It keeps saying that I have put in the wrong birth date and the social number. Of course I know when I was born.

    • Mary A

Make sure you use the /

  32. Monica

My stimulus payment Is going to a bank account that was closed. I was freaking out and called Bank if America. The representative answered right away that once their system is alerted that the funds will be sent back. Once that happens, a physical check will be issued. This might take a while, but at least your payment isn’t void. This confirms what others have posted with accounts from Chase , but just wanted to share that Bank of America has also confirmed this.

  33. newtonfairy

Hi I’m a bank teller with some advice: most of your questions can be answered at http://www.irs.gov/eip please do not call your bank asking where the funds are, if we have them and you have an open account they go in – if it’s a closed account the funds get sent back to the irs. If your account was closed but you have another open account at the SAME bank your bank MIGHT call you to make sure it’s ok to place in other account instead of sending back (if you keep your contact info up to date and we can actually call you). Remember banks are not only processing these payments but all of the loans to the businesses that cover payroll. Bankers are working 12-17 hours a day for the last 10 days. On the weekends, through Easter, arriving at 4am and not leaving until 6pm most days… Be nice, be patient, and really try to look up answers before calling. Use your resources- online banking and 24 hour phone lines that can read out your balances for you. Banks don’t know why your money was less than you expected, banks don’t know why one kid was counted and not another, banks shouldn’t have to explain why it was taken for child support. Sorry if these seems full of rants but the public is crushing the banking system with demands and questions we cannot answer. We are happy to be here and to help any way that we CAN.

    • Castillo

Do you know anything about the account showing the Las 4 ssn instead of account’s last 4?

      • annie

because your account information with the IRS is by your ss#

      • newtonfairy

Last 4 of ssn appears to be from the IRS side of the process. It’s probably how they identify the payments to keep them straight before send them off.

    • Latoya

Thank you for that information. It’s good to know. I think everyone is a little panicked at this time. I’m praying my bank will put the money into my new account. All my information is the same

  34. Charlotte

IRS says my check was issued today to my bank account ending with the last 4 digits of my social, what does this mean and what should I do

    • McKenzie

Hello, have you gotten an answer to this yet through another party?

  35. Al

So frustrating to see on the IRS website my payment has a totally different account number. How could this mistake happen. Im sooo upset. How do we fix this???

    • annie

is the number the last of your ss#? if so don’t worry

      • McKenzie

What does it mean if it is the last 4 of SSN?

      • McKenzie

Hello, what does it mean if it shows the last 4 of SSN?

      • Leon

What does it mean if it is the last 4 of your SSN?

  36. Tiffany

From what I’ve gathered, the checks will hopefully* be rejected by the closed bank accounts then routed back to the IRS. After some time you’ll be able to update your payment information and or change payment preference. Check the website daily.
    Hope this helps.

    • Al

My information showed a wrong account number. No clue if its a a closed account. I have no clue where they got that account number from. My taxes filed electronically 2018 and 2019 show my correct bank information. Absolutely no clue whose account that is? What if it is a valid account?? How will I get my money back then?

  37. alice

    CHASE customers SOLUTION found:
My stimulus was deposited to an old/closed/inactive Chase bank account but I still have a different account active with Chase. I called and said “Per the IRS tracker I see my stimulus was deposited to my old account ending in XXXX is there any way to have that transferred over to my new chacking account ending in YYYY?” The rep on the phone said, to my extreme surprise, “sure I’ll connect us with the escalation team and we can have it transferred to your active account.” Now I’m waiting on a long hold but will reply to this post once/if they actually transfer the funds.

    • Amparo

Hello, please let me know if they are able to transfer the money to your new account. I closed my account as well and it was deposited there but I still have Chase.

    • Holly

They said the transfer will take 2-3 days but that it’s in-process

  39. Curious reader

Hello wall I too have this message however the understanding is the last four numbers that it’s showing is the last four digits of your Social Security number its not a odd bank account number unless it’s physically showing you a full bank account number. I repeat the last four digits are your social security number it’s not a bank account number. And if you don’t believe me just look at the last four digits of your own social security number. Hope this helps good luck. Waiting patiently!!!

    • Cathy

This is not accurate. My social security number does not end in the last four digits of the account number they’re showing. They deposited my 2019 refund in the correct account today but sent my stimulus check to a 2018 account.

  40. David Finsthwait

I did not file my 2019 return in time to get the full amount. I just got paid an adjusted amount based on my 2018 return. Will the additional amount be sent later or am I done?

    • lori-0

You will get the whole 1200

    • Victoria W. C.

      This is my question too!

    • tiphanie

It depends on your income as well as to how much u will get in return.

    • Jess

It should adjust when you file your 2020 taxes (if eligible you’d get the remainder of the tax credit to reduce your AGI) but unlikely they’ll mail another check now.

      • Victoria W. C.

Thanks, this is helpful to know.

  41. Mona

I got mine, no problem and, so did my daughter and, my husband.
They have been saying from the beginning, to update all the information with the IRS, to get the money in the right account, if anything has changed from your tax returns in 2018.

  42. Susan

Two adults and 3 children–received $3900 this morning.

    • Joann

Lucky you. I assume your both on Unemployment as well so there is an additional $1200 + a WEEK. Please spend wisely.

      • amber

I wouldnt just assume they are on unemployment, you don’t know there situation. There are several essential workers still working! Plus there are several people not able to get ahold of unemployment and many other situations. And if they are on unemployment and getting the extra money, it’s not anyone’s business.

      • Rebecca

How could you possibly assume that from her comment? Not sure what’s going on in your life to make you so bitter, but good luck with that.

      • Psychrn

Wow… because there are 3 kids you assume they are on unemployment? I almost have a doctorate and have to apply for unemployment. I have had lung problems since I was a child and my doctor isolated me to my house. I can’t work as a nurse because I am high risk if I was to get the virus. I can only teach 1 online class which is not enough money. My son has graduated from college so I only get 1200. You would not have assumed I had to receive unemployment unless I told you. You know what though, I like living and I have paid my taxes for years. Many of us are needing help we never needed before so why don’t you stop being judgmental before our different karma bites you in the you know what.

      • Sheri

Unemployment doesn’t come into play for this. The stimulus check is a max of $1,200 for a single filer or $2,400 for married (if you make under the threshold) AND $500 for each dependent under the age of 16. Based on what she wrote, she got $2,400 plus $1,500 for her 3 dependent kids or $3,900.

      • riss

Assuming they are on unemployment, what’s so lucky about that, being unemployed?

      • Don’t be a jerk

What is wrong with you? Maybe both adults ARE working.

It shows for both my husband and I that it will be deposited today 4/15 to the correct bank account, at least the last 4 digits. He does owe back child support but I file an Injured spouse claim every year. Will they just automatically take me and my 10 year old’s stimulus because of my husbands back child support for a child that is not even mine? I hope I wake tomorrow and it is there. I called the bank like the IRS website said to do and they said they have not pending transaction for me?

I received my 2019 refund in the correct account today but the stimulus check was sent to an old outdated and closed account from 2018? How could I receive my refund in the CORRECT account and not the stimulus check? Their system is obviously updated since I received my refund. I emailed them. That’s all I can do for now. It seems they started prepping for stimulus payments BEFORE receiving 2019 tax filers’ information. So the statement “if you filed your 2018/2019 taxes, you do not need to take further action” is misleading and incorrect.

Received mine via my TurboTax card this morning. So happy I didn’t toss that card! I was cleaning out my wallet recently and was thinking about it!

Hi i didnt get it on my turbo tax account.

      • Jessica

Hmmm not sure, mine was deposited and I got an email from Turbo Tax a little bit ago saying that’s how I would get my refund. I would keep checking, hopefully it’ll be there within the next few days. Good luck!

I also did my texes via Turbo tax and got the Turb Card. I didn’t receive mine yesterday so i checked the IRS website and they said they did not have my direct deposit info.. So now I wait.

Will it show on the it’s website that it was deposited today to my account even if I owe back child support??

    • Debby

You will not receive a check if you owe back child support. It’s on every news channel, on every website it clearly states if you owe back child support you will not receive any money.

Fyi, if you owed taxes and paid out of your bank account, the IRS will not use that bank account info to deposit your stimulus check. You’ll have to provide your bank account info on the IRS website per the IRS website.

Thank you. That was my situation

Got mine this AM, $3900. I work at a bank, lots of people got theirs today. And lots of them pulling it ALL out in cash. My deposit went to another bank where I get my refund and no problems there either. I am not currently unemployed and neither is my husband. We both are still working AND have 3 kids under 11 yrs old. The rush and lines at the bank are so unnecessary. Use your card at the grocery store, pay bills online, buy online and pickup. Charges are covered with your debit card. Cash cannot be replaced.

I took cash out today to put it directly in my savings account. I think that’s what a lot of people were doing. I don’t have as much success saving money when checking and savings are linked.

    Got ours today!

Says my payment status is unavailable and according to their information on file they can’t determine my eligibility for a payment. Cool…. I’m still paying on taxes I owe them little by little and I receive monthly letters from them. Oh well.

My status also says that, but I did get a refund last year and this year.
