More Happy Friday

In the DIY mood?

If you’re wanting a new piece of decor, why not transform something on clearance and turn it into the perfect piece for your home? This week’s Happy Friday reader Teresa did exactly this with the help of her daughter, and it suits her home perfectly!

hobby lobby clearance sign

Recently, I bought a sign from Hobby Lobby for about $3 at their 90% off clearance. I knew the sign won’t work at my house. However, I loved the look of it, so I decided to paint over it.

My daughter and I made it an art project over the weekend and created our own one-of-a-kind original abstract artwork. I’m so in love with it, and this will stay in our family for years to come. Now, it’s way more personal than the original sign!

Teresa, what fun and a clever idea this was, and I can’t get over the results! It ended up being cheaper than buying your own blank canvas! Plus, stores like Hobby Lobby and other craft stores always have killer clearance deals, so it’s a great place to look.

Always try to go in person because you’ll likely get extra savings; the sign Teresa used is currently $10 online, but she scored it for $3 in stores!

I do this with goodwill picture frames also. Sundays are when the new half price color starts so I try to go then and pick wood frames of all sizes and then stash them until I need them. Then I spray paint them to fit the space and photo when I get ready to use them.

Great idea, Becky! Thanks for sharing! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Is there a reason why thereโ€™s a giant jump scare pop-up when I visit this website on desktop? Or why the insta-gram video drags over and blocks the comments on posts on mobile?

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Nana! I am seeing the instagram video on my mobile device, but was able to click the X on it to close it out, and it no longer covered the comments. Hoping this is helpful! ๐Ÿ’•

I came here to say the same as Becky! Frames are so expensive. We find them at thrift shops and Goodwill and repurpose!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing, acgold! I’ll have to check out my local thrift shop next time I’m in need of a frame. ๐Ÿ’—

I love this so much!! Such a smart idea!

You can buy 8×10 frames at dollar tree or wherever, and cut out pictures (floral, scenic, horses, etc) from old wall calendars for frugal decoration. You can even make it seasonal by keeping a few pages behind the current one and changing it as required.
