I appreciate all you do for us to let us know about your good deals. Just know that I have read about great deals from TX, Germany and CO. We are about to add some more places to our journey! Thanks Collin!

I just had to comment here…We’re originally from (and currently living in) Texas and my husband’s first duty station was in Germany. Then we were stationed in CO for his last six months in service. Made me chuckle since we even have the same name 🙂

As an FYI, even though Home Depot and Lowe’s advertises their 10% military discount during Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, and the like they actually offer it YEAR ROUND.

I am disappointed in the way they do veteran discounts in most places. You either have to be currently active or retired with a military ID card. What about all the veterans who served who didn’t stay in for 20 years? I know people who were in for 10 years and 12 years, even some that were in for 3&4 years that served overseas in Iraq and Desert Storm and other very dangerous duty stations and don’t qualify for any veteran free or discounted thank you for serving and protecting our freedom discounts because you have to have a military ID to get the discounts. You don’t get a military ID when you leave the service unless you have served 20 years. What you do get is a DD214. Every veteran receives a DD214. The cruise lines offer discounts to all veterans who have served our country for 2 or more years. They ask for a copy of your DD214 to prove your service. They honor all veterans, not just those who are currently active or those who have been injured in service and receive ID’s and those who have stayed in for 20 or more years. We need to honor ALL veterans, not just a chosen few! When I go shopping and they offer veteran discounts and I tell them I am a veteran, they ask to see a military ID card. I tell them I don’t have a military ID card but I do have a DD214 and I am told that they can’t use that, even though it plainly gives my name and my number of honorable days served in the protection of my country. Don’t get me wrong, I am proud to have served my country. I would do it again even though I am well into my 50’s if they would let me. I don’t need to be given free or discounted things to make me proud to be a veteran. I just think that there are a lot of veterans out there that are being ignored because they didn’t protect this country with their lives on the line every single day for 20 years. There are a lot of currently active members of the military who are putting their lives on the line every single day for this country right now who will not be in the military for 20 years and will be pushed aside and ignored because when they leave the service they will not get a military ID. What they will get is a DD214. Bravo to the cruise lines that give discounts to ALL veterans by using the DD214 form as proof of service and Bravo to the Applebee’s in Phoenix, Arizona who gave free meals to veterans on Veterans Day without requiring any proof at all but took you word on it and bravo to anyone else out there that are unknown to me who honor the word of a veteran to be honest and true or those that will take a DD214. Boohoo to everyone else who require an ID card for proof of service and are ignoring a very large percentage of veterans who raised their hand and gave an oath to protect and serve this country even unto death reserving our rights to be free.

    • Kathryn K

A lot of offers are good for veterans who served, but didn’t retire from military.
They can use the VA medical card as id. Of course, that means you have to be enrolled in the VA system to have one.
