Is the target portraits only for military families?

    • Guest

It looks like it is only for military families. When I clicked on the coupon it said must present valid military id at sitting. HTH

  2. Sarah

Yes, thank you to all our military, active, retired and gone. And I thank your husband and you Collin. God bless you all.

  3. broadway96

Dorney Park in PA is free for Vets and Active also.

  4. Pam L.

These military discounts really help out! Thanks Collin!!

    • nicolegammeter

      You’re welcome, Pam! 🙂

      • jody

First time I’ve ever gotten a reply from Collin! Wood woot!!! Kinda makes my day ;D

  5. LaDOnna

Lowes and HomeDepot give 10% to all military all the time, we’ve saved TONS over the years!

  6. kit

Sam’s Club deal only good on new membership or renewal. Bummer, they should offer free goods to existing military members.

    • lisa

Kit, not sure I understand your dilemma. Our expiration/renewal date is October 2015 (without a loss of months we renewed early, we’re good til October 2017). They allowed us to renew early to take advantage of the great deal for military.

  7. jody

Thanks Collin, great deal on the portraits! Yes, the 10% off for military at Lowe’s is always offered and I agree that it’s a bummer about Sam’s Club. We don’t need to renew until October. Also, I cannot see where the Star Spangled Banner song is free on Amazon. I only see it free for Prime members, otherwise .89? Thanks for posting Collin!

    • nicolegammeter

      Hi jody!

It is the streamed version with Prime that’s free. 🙂

    • lisa

Jody, I just replied to kit above this response… “Kit, not sure I understand your dilemma. Our expiration/renewal date is October 2015 (without a loss of months we renewed early, we’re good til October 2017). They allowed us to renew early to take advantage of the great deal for military.”

  8. Angela

I heard Wendy’s is giving away free frosty’s on memorial day. Cannot confirm on their website though.

    • Susan

I was just in Wendy’s a hour or so ago and they had this deal on their sign and door in Atlanta.

  9. begreen83

If you live near a Firebirds, be sure to sign up for their eclub. I received the following email this morning.

Receive one complimentary military entrée (equal to or less than your entrée purchase). Dine in only

We just tried them during a group birthday dinner, they are worth their prices 😀
I also received $10 off our purchase just for signing up!!!

  10. Sarah

FYI: Lowes offers 10% off to veterans and military year round with proof not just on Memorial Day.

    • Jen

      Same at Home Depot:)

      • Kelly

I think the difference is (and I could be wrong) that all veterans can get the discount, not just active duty and retired, with proof of service (DD214 or other government-issued veteran ID).

        • rae

Nope, DH has been out for 8mo and we get the discount at Lowes with vet id all the time. It’s on their website that vets get it as well as active duty. We don’t shop at home depot so I don’t know their rules.

  11. e

it’s important to remember that Memorial Day is meant to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Please join me in educating your children on why this country remains free.

    • Laura

I was just saying this to my son last night. Retail seems to push cookouts, flip flops etc. If we don’t teach, that’s all they’ll know

    • Emilee

I agree. My husband is in the Navy and he refuses to hit up any sales on Memorial Day because that’s not what the day is about.

      • navywife

Wow …so you dont do presents on christmas because thats not what its all about ..wouldnt want to be in your spot

        • rae

Every one is different no need to be judgmental of how others choose to go about on holidays.

It’s not like she said everyone should do as they do.

    • rae

Just about every recognized holiday is commercialized so much we just stay home and don’t participate in the “sales”.

    • Jen

Very true. Memorial Day is in memory of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Veterans’ Day is for recognizing all veterans.

    • Ingrid

Thank you, e! Those of us who have lost a family member to war are especially sensitive about this. My father was killed in Vietnam one week before my 6th birthday. Who we honor on Memorial Day may not make a difference to some people, but it was set aside to honor and remember the fallen, those who didn’t make it home.

    • Melissa

I totally agree. We need to educate our children as to the real meaning of Memorial Day. Don’t leave it up to their schools to do this. These days, they may or may not even touch on the subject. I am guessing that if you ask most kids what Memorial Day is about, you will get the answer that it is just a day off from school and a day for barbequing hamburgers and hotdogs. I think we also need reminders as adults to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. One way to take time to remember is to view some of the youtube videos that are about Memorial Day. If interested, go to youtube.com and do a search for “Memorial Day tribute”.

      • Brittany

Wow, what a completely ignorant statement. Do you really think schools aren’t teaching what Memorial Day is and the importance of it? You do realize they still teach history right? Still taking school trips to Washington D.C.? Not only that, over the last 10+ years, the chances of a family member or family friend being sent overseas if they are enlisted considerably high? I don’t think any school is going to brush past the topic of Memorial Day, and the number of lives that have been lost in Vietnam, etc. My children know the importance because my husband and brother in law are Marines my brother and other brother in law Navy. Maybe don’t make assumptions about what children do and don’t know. They’re a lot smarter than you think.

        • Melissa

Wow Brittany! What a hostile response! What I was pointing out is that parents should take responsibility to ensure that their children know what Memorial Day is really about. I am not implying that children are stupid, but that they do need to be taught. As a parent I have learned that it is best not to assume that my child has learned something. A teacher may have covered something in a class, but that doesn’t guarantee than your child learned it. Or the teacher may not have covered the subject at all. Teachers have a lot on their plate these days.

As you yourself pointed out, your children know the importance of Memorial Day because of family members in the military, not because they learned it in school. Also, please consider that not every child in every family has those connections. You are very mindful of the service and sacrifices that military families make because your family is in the military. Field trips to Washington DC are wonderful, but I hope you realize that not all school children have easy access to our nation’s capitol. Distance and finances prevent most from taking a field trip with their class to DC.

I appreciate the service of those in the military. I appreciate the sacrifices that the families of those serving in the military make. I hope that others do so as well. I wish you and your family a Happy Memorial Day.

  12. Amber

I am so surprised, and disappointed, at stores/restaurants that only honor active military…what about the veterans?!?

    • Leslie

I could not agree more!!! My husband was honorably discharged due to an injury and most places dont recognize the veterans for discounts, its just active and retired. Its sad, if he was physically able to be active he still would be but we dont get included in most discounts, oh well.

  13. anna

Just a side note: my husband is a vet and our Lowe’s honors him year round with a military discount. It doesn’t sound like that is corporate policy, but perhaps something worth checking on in each location (the lady at the checkout actually saw his Navy tattoo one day and told him they will honor his service year round). Now all our home improvements are done with items from Lowe’s. ☺

    • K

As a former Lowes employee, it is not advertised, but all you have to do is present a military ID and ask for it. Lowes’ founder was a vet.

  14. Jessich

Anyone knows of portrait place or coupons that offer no sitting fee? My lo is turning one next week and would love to get a few portrait done with his brothers.

  15. Dan

Hey Lonestar Steak House, would it really hurt you that much to include veterans for a Memorial Day discount? I don’t understand why you only provide discounts for ACTIVE military? You’ve lost a potential future customer here.

    • Cassandra

Sorry if I’m wrong dan, I’m not sure how it works, but did you show your military id or whatever it is? I feel like they wouldn’t tell you no just because you’re a vet and not technically ‘active’. I think most businesses are sincere to anyone who has served. 🙂

  16. ev

Memorial day is to honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice. My husband is currently in Afghanistan, with over 20 years active service, so I may feel this more than most – but there is a need to compassionately get the word out that veteran’s day is for those who currently serve. Like others have said – it’s an important distinction.

  17. sarah

I don’t understand why all this is for military related stuff. I mean yes many have passed on. But I think memorial day is for all people who died you want to remember? I mean don’t get me wrong I thought veterans day was more so for military geared. Memorial day is more for loved ones friends, going around to the cemetery. Lots of older people spend the weekend going around to all the places and visiting the resting places of loved ones. I’m not sure how this has changed.

    • Rebecca

It hasn’t changed, it’s always been about the military members that laid down their life for us. You can honor your deceased loved ones every day, this day included. But this is more a day where our entire nation should stop and remember. Because too often they are overlooked. Veteran’s day honors veterans, still serving and retired, and to remember those who have passed. Everything is so commercialized that sadly I’m guessing a lot of people feel as you do. But as a military wife who lives in a heavily saturated military area, I see the sacrifices every day and and know those who have laid down their lives for us. So we don’t forget. It’s a big deal here.

    • jan

Sarah, Rebecca is right. Memorial Day is a national holiday dedicated to remembering those in the military who died in the service to our country. You might want to google it for the history and further information. Rebecca is also right about Veteran’s Day. Too often the two are confused.

      • sarah

Yes I was second guessing myself andgoogled it’s history. It has always been traditional that most of my relatives and family members and friends have always done this.

  18. mckeeversmom

Thank you to all service members, present and past.

  19. katie

If you have a Saver’s in your area they are offering up 50% off of marked prices

  20. Sasha

I’m not using this so feel free to use yourself! Redbox: Rent 1 DVD, get 1 free today only with promo code R2MVZVNR Expires 5/25/15 @11:59pCT.

  21. Karen

Boo Home Depot!!! I am a veteran, but I don’t have a military ID card. The only document or ID issued to all separating military personnel is a DD214, a military service record. I do not have an ID card because most people separating don’t. When I went into Home Depot today to use the veteran’s discount, the clerk (after consulting a paper which had examples of acceptable ID, I presume) told me that this record with a driver’s license was not acceptable. I was floored. What’s even worse is that those employees are not allowed to go outside the (policy) lines. Clearly I was due the discount. Shame! Isn’t my service valued?

Lowe’s, however, was glad to take the DD214 (and the money I spent there instead).
