Is Sling only live TV or do they have an on demand feature? I’m hoping to catch up on this season’s Walking Dead and would be willing to pay for this service….
Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Sling has some on demand features. However, they typically don’t have full seasons on demand. They usually offer 4 or 5 episodes of a show if available.
PlayStation Vue is a similar streaming service has a cloud DVR function in addition to some on demand. We’ve had it for almost a year and love it. It works with Amazon Fire streaming devices, Roku and Apple TV 4. Other than them losing Nick Jr and Viacom channels a few months back we’ve had no complaints. Hoping the reach an agreement and get those back.
Yes I tried Sling but was unimpressed. We’ve had PlayStation Vue for close to 6 months & are happy with it. If you’re used to having a DVR function, it’s definitely the way to go.
I also use playstation vue. I loved it. Way cheaper than cable and very easy to use.
We also have DirecTVNow until march (got it to get “free” Apple TV and the only thing it has on Vue are the Viacom channels. On demand is horrible, no DVR, no separate profiles, only 2 separate streams, app log in credentials for only a few apps and constantly gives errors. The one thing I like is HBO Go is only $5 extra a month so I’ve been watching the heck out of that.
Awesome!!! I’ve been wanting to try this to see if I’m ready to cut the cord! Thanks!
You’re welcome Shannon!
I’ve been hearing a lot about this recently and tried to do research on it. Anyone currently using it care to chime in?
I love Sling! I cut the cord at the end of last summer and I haven’t missed out on anything except the ability to record a show. They have a good selection of channels and I don’t even have the full package! I like that I can add to my package as needed (like adding HBO for when Game of Thrones comes back) and cancel when I don’t need the extra channels.
I tried it awhile back and ended up canceling it. I’m guessing the high demand for popular shows, like The Walking Dead, made them unwatchable. We tried a few weeks in a row to watch TWD and couldn’t during the first airing. Would begin the episode and then completely go black and couldn’t get it back. Possible they’ve improved since then as it was maybe last spring. The only time we had issues was during prime time with popular shows like that, otherwise it worked well
We switched from Dish and love Sling. As long as you have high speed internet, you shouldn’t have a problem. We’ve never had any issues with shows playing and still have all our favorite channels for a fraction of the cost. I say it’s worth trying to see if it’ll work for your family.
I have high speed Internet and still had issues with The Walking Dead every week. I think it was high demand that caused the issue. We had no issues with it for most other things and we had it for a month. I think a basketball game we had the same but I can’t recall exactly what it was. It was nearly a year ago.
Is this the free 7 day trial they always offer or longer?
It totally depends on how good your internet is. We have some buffering issues. At times it can be unwatchable. Channel selection isn’t the best. But it is way cheaper than cable. Got to weigh the good with the bad.
It’s only through the weekend.
How long is the preview?
I highly recommend Sling TV. We cut cable almost 4 years ago and don’t miss it one bit! We have always had an antenna plus, Netflix, Hulu Plus and Prime. In the past month we started using Sling and it’s been great for us – we will be canceling Hulu at the end of this month. I wanted it mainly for HGTV, Food Network and Bravo but it offers much more. I also was able to get a free Roku Express with my first month payment of Sling. Definitely, give the free trial a go!
I haven’t tried it yet but I’ve seen some deals where they offer different Roku devices with different packages. And I have read that you can cancel at any time so people will sign up during football season or for a specific series as another poster said. I’ve seen 7 day trials so just 2 more days seems a little short to assess it (again keep in mind I do not yet have personal experience with Sling).
I think the 7 day trials make you add credit card info though and this preview doesn’t
Thank you!!!
You’re welcome!
We cut the cord and really enjoy Sling. Love no commitment and can change your plan as needed.
Great to hear that! Thanks for the feedback!
Forgot to mention if you like to record PlayOn is a good option to use all streaming venues
We got sling about a month ago and I have to say I too was skeptical. We love the fact that we are saving money on cable but can still watch the shows we like. We like others have Netflix and Hulu but this is good for the local news and my hgtv obsession! I would recommend it to anyone to try as it is not for everyone. I to have had the “blackout” issues or not loading at all but we just restart it on our Xbox an it usually comes right back.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience Gordy! Good to know!
They would do it without a cc and ran a payment.I used the link on the post.
Tmobile customers get it for $13.99/mo for 12 mos!!!! Love my tmobile…and my sling tv!!!!
I agree!!!
My post was worded incorrectly, they would not do it without cc and ran a payment. I used the link on the post!?
Does it have game show network?
Yes, it does have GSN
Just signed up now and gave email address and created a password. It did not ask for a charge card. We did not sign up for the 7 day option, just trying Sling until the 13th.
I’ve had Sling for well over a year now and have only had one issue, ever (it was The Last Ship and The Walking Dead). I absolutely love Sling! They recently added two different plans – orange and blue with different channels. They have tons of add on packages also – I have the movie add on for $5 and the lifestyle bundle with Hallmark, DIY, Vh1 and more for $5. It’s so much better than cable and very easy to use. I have zero regrets from cancelling my Comcast cable. I also have Hulu, Prime, and Netflix.
We cut the cord and switched to Sling over the summer and haven’t regretted it at all. I love that I’m saving $35 a month and can watch all the things I normally watch. We also have Netflix and we’re much happier with this setup than we were with cable. Crazy how much money we were wasting each month.
I’ve had Sling for about a year, mainly for TWD, and have had a few issues, but nothing to cancel over. They recently added a beta recording option for some programs. Highly recommend trying, and their customer service is great.
