What is Walmart Cash?
Formerly named Walmart Rewards, Walmart Cash is the easy way to earn cash back to your Walmart.com account on your purchases. It’s truly one of the easiest cashback programs, as you don’t need to take any pictures of your receipt or upload anything. Clip the “Get Walmart Cash” offer on the product page and add the product to your cart.
Once a reward item is purchased, delivered, or picked up, the value of each item reward is deposited into your Walmart Cash balance. You can then redeem your balance on future purchases in Walmart stores or online. So simple!
You can view all the current rewards by logging into your Walmart account. Note that Walmart Cash offers may vary by region, and that expiration dates can vary, so be sure to sure to check the details.

Easily save when shopping at Walmart in stores or online!
When shopping online, you can find and add item rewards from the Walmart Cash Center, search bar, or product page. Once you find your item(s), tap “Get Walmart Cash” to save the offer to your account. If you’re shopping in-store, you can find and add item rewards using the barcode scanner found in the Walmart app. You can also click the circled ‘i’ to get all the details for each individual offer.
Once you purchase, pick up, or get your items delivered, your earned item Walmart Cash will appear in your Walmart Cash balance, which can be found in your Walmart account wallet and Walmart Cash Center.
Forget to scan the QR Code in-store? No problem!
To earn item rewards, you can also scan your receipt barcode within seven days of purchase. To do this, sign into your Walmart account in the app and go to Walmart Cash tools and tap “Submit your receipt”. Scan the barcode on your store receipt. You will then be credited your Walmart Rewards balance with the item rewards.

To use your Walmart Cash balance, be sure you are signed into your Walmart account online or in the app. At checkout, scan the Walmart Pay QR code with the Walmart app or your phone.
If you’re shopping online, tap “Apply Walmart Cash” in the Wallet section to redeem your Walmart Cash balance and select how you would prefer to pay for any remaining amount.
Your Walmart Cash balance cannot be redeemed for the purchase of gift cards, prescription-related products, pharmacy purchases, optical products and services, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, firearm and ammunition products, lottery tickets, and financial services. Walmart now has a cash-out option for your Rewards!
Walmart Cash can’t be used outside of Walmart and has no cash value until it’s redeemed at Walmart on a future purchase. However, if you have a balance of $25 or more, you can now convert your Walmart Cash to actual cash! Here’s how:
- Sign in to your Walmart account and select Get More next to your Walmart Cash balance to visit the Walmart Cash page.
- Under Walmart Cash Tools, tap Cash out in-store.
- Tap Show cash out barcode to generate a barcode for the associate to scan.
- Visit the MoneyCenter or Customer Service Desk at any store.
- Show your barcode and valid ID to the associate.
Note that the maximum amount of Walmart Cash you can cash out per day is $100.

In my opinion, this is just another amazing benefit to being a Walmart+ member. Initially, I had signed up as a monthly member. Once I realized how often I was using it, I jumped on an offer for a discounted annual membership and never looked back. The program perks just seem to keep growing and as a long-time Ibotta user, it doesn’t get any easier than checking a box and making a purchase! Some of the rewards can be pretty high value too, so it’s a great incentive to try out new products. Great question, Cathy! I spotted some helpful instructions for earning in-store in the Walmart Cash FAQ –
1. Using the Walmart app in store, sign into your Walmart account.
2. At the register or self-checkout, scan the on-screen QR code to connect your account. To scan you may use either the scanner in the Walmart app located in the search bar, Walmart Pay or if you have the Walmart app downloaded, you can also scan with your native phone camera.
3. Purchase the associated item.
4. Once you have completed the transaction & purchased the associated item, the value of the relevant manufacturer offer you selected will be added to your Walmart Cash account. Nothing further is required from you.

I think it is funny. I have been getting walmart cash for awhile but had an issue once where I didn’t get it for an item. When I contacted customer service the rep told me walmart cash wasn’t a thing. I told them to look it up because it is a thing and literally had a section for it on the app. They again pretty much told me I was delusional and walmart cash didn’t exist. At least I know I’m not crazy lol

Wondering why your cash back is in Walmart instead of Ibotta? This is because Walmart Cash members now earn rewards on these offers, which are powered by Ibotta. This means you’ll only get cash back for a product once. The earnings will either go to Walmart to be used for upcoming purchases, or to your Ibotta earnings. In the future, if you prefer to get cash back added to your Ibotta earnings, please be sure to only add offers in Ibotta.

What if you use the Walmart cash app one day for an item. On a later day can you use it on Ibotta? Like if it’s no longer on Walmart? Does that make sense? I know you can’t get both of them for the same time in same purchase. I mean two completely separate purchases. Sorry that’s confusing 😂
Hi Naomi! Since Walmart items that earn Walmart Cash are also sourced through Ibotta, you wouldn’t be able to submit for the same item/receipt, as it would likely get rejected by one. I had done the $49 membership a year ago and it was ending on 11/4. So I decided to just cancel it but then the next time I went in the app, it popped up with an offer to reactivate for $49 so I went ahead and did it. Then when I happened to look at my CC account, I noticed I was charged $98. I did a chat and after having to explain to a couple different people, they did cancel the membership and then activate it again at $49. Just be sure to check that.

I’m so happy! Thank you for this post. I used to do the program they had several years ago where you earned cash on purchases after they automatically price compared with stores in the area. We didn’t have a lot of stores in the area so I didn’t earn as much as I could have, but it definitely helped and I loved it! I used some of my earnings to lower the price of tires.

“Can I get & redeem Walmart Cash in the same purchase?
Yes. You can get Walmart Cash on manufacturer offers & redeem your existing Walmart Cash balance on the same transaction. However, the Walmart Cash you receive in that transaction can only be applied towards future transactions.”

Good question, Jay. I found this in the Walmart FAQ on their site about this –
Do I forfeit the Walmart Cash I received if I return an item?
When an item for which you received Walmart Cash through a manufacturer offer is returned & the purchase price is refunded to you, the Walmart Cash for that item will be reversed & deducted from your balance, unless there is another item in your transaction to which the original manufacturer offer could be applied.
If your Walmart Cash balance is not sufficient to cover the deduction, your balance will be negative. You will not be able to redeem any future earned Walmart Cash until you reach a positive balance.
How do you apply the cash at the store during checkout?
Great question, Julie. Here’s the details I found on how to redeem in store:
• Using the Walmart app, sign into your Walmart account where you have accrued a Walmart Cash balance.
• At checkout scan the Walmart Pay QR code with the Walmart app on your phone.
• Tap “Use Walmart Cash” to redeem your balance for an eGift card to be applied against the purchase price and select how you would prefer to pay for any remaining amount (if applicable). If your Walmart Cash balance is less than your basket total (excluding prohibited items), your full Walmart Cash balance will be redeemed for an eGift card and applied against your basket total. If your Walmart Cash balance is greater than your basket total, only that portion of your Walmart Cash balance necessary will be redeemed for an eGift card and applied against the basket total.
