The Lemon that started it all…
First, I don’t NEED to justify the “lemon” situation in my Follow Me Monday video (maybe the container of lemon wedges was actually for the WHOLE table? Ya think? …AND maybe I only needed 2 Lemon wedges to make the kind of lemonade I like… and maybe I gave the server a HUGE tip because she put up with us… and maybe I was a server for a few years, so I UNDERSTAND… ).
Anyway, the point of this post is to express how I feel. I am not one of those people that can bottle stuff up inside. That’s just not me. I put myself out there on these videos and it’s scary. I also work very hard every week getting these videos made for all of you. I felt the response this week (I actually had to delete some of the comments) was not too positive. I want to continue making videos, but if I feel like this every Monday, it’s definitely not going to work.
Just please try to remember that I have feelings…
Oh and when I talked to my hubby about the whole lemon ordeal he said, “What lemons? When did we have lemons?” Him saying that made me feel so much better… made me realize once again, that this whole lemon crisis is NOT a big deal!
…And one more thing—it is just a stinkin’ lemon!

I have been following your Blog for about a Year now and have NEVER found anything you have done or written about to be rude or distasteful. In this day and age we ALL are looking for ways to cut cormers (restaurant servers too!!) Anything you put in your videos is your choice “alone” You are the one who maintains it and puts all the effort into it, so why should some “low lifes” have to make it thier mission to be so rude, who knows !! There is no reason for any restaurant server to give you bad service if you order water w/lemon.
anyhow, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, sending positive thoughts your way !! Love the Monday videos !!

Collin, I am actually very happy that you deleted the negative comments before I could read them, because I most certainly would have gone to the matresses for you and lost my cool in the process! My husband and his side of the family have asked for lemons wedges at their table for as loong as I have known them. And they actually get them to EAT them as an end to their meal!! Don’t ask me why…but they do. I usually grap one for my water, but we have never had a problem with anyone saying that dishing up the lemon is a hardship. So I just had to laugh when I watched your video, because I felt like “oh good, I’m not the only one!” Keep looking up Collin!

about the tipping: being a former server myself… no matter the service you provide if someone’s a tipper they are going to tip… if they aren’t the tipping kind of people they won’t tip even with A+ service.
sure there are the people you can sway, or the amount of which you get tipped… but for the most part its predetermined.
Don’t worry about a few rude comments. Those people that make such comments have a very sad life. You have alot more positive comments than rude. Don’t let it get to you.

Wow, I don’t know why people would be so rude about lemons! I know some people who do that. (And in my opinion, if you can handle that light lemon flavor and little bit of sugar, why not? -I’m one of those who likes a little water with my sugar/lemonade mix!) Love your web-site. Love LEMONS! I order water with Lemons at every restaurant I go to. I just like water with lemon better than other drinks. And I agree with you that drinks are very over priced when you eat out.

I watched your video yesterday and loved it! There is NOTHING WRONG with what u did with the lemons to make your water taste better!!! If the resturaunts would just lower the cost of a drink we consumers wouldn’t have to just order water to help cut the cost of a meal!
I understand that an every monday video might be getting to be to much for you. 1)subject matter and coming up with it 2)the time. We got our 13 yr old son a flip ultra hd (thanks for the flip recommendation ) The editing is the hard part or time consuming part. Knowing what to say in a somewhat orderly fashion (he is doing nerf mods on video to hopefully post soon). It takes a lot more time than people think and your brain seems to go out of your head when the “tape” starts rolling. I don’t think I could put myself out there like you do. I don’t like when people don’t like me (really who does). You are so brave, friendly and open on your videos. I am sorry that your feelings were hurt by the comments. Mine were too. I hate the saying kids sing sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me. Well words hurt more people daily than sticks and stones. Collin – Please take the “lemon” posts you received and turn them into lemonade!! I love your blog and visit it multiple times each day. There are so many things I want to say to the nay-sayers out there, but I’m going to keep my post positive because negative comments aren’t productive. As an FYI, when my husband and I go out to dinner, we both order water with lemon. We don’t drink sodas and I’m picky about my sweet tea. We use the money we save on drinks to go towards tipping 20%. Please keep your video series, I look forward to watching it each week.
Collin, I think you are just fine the way you are. You are authentic and that’s what makes you so likeable. I personally was cracking up and smiling when watching your video b/c it was good to know there are others like me. My friends have given me a hard time over the years about my frugality and I just try and laugh it off. You literally or figuratively make the best lemonade out of your lemons that life gives you. I’ve gotten quite a few looks from doing the lemonade thing too but don’t think we are doing anything wrong. Keep up your good work!!!
I think you guys need to look up the definition for mob mentality. Lets go get our pitch forks and torches and hunt down those who disagree with our view.
There’s a HUGE difference between respectfully disagreeing and being down right mean. Of course we are all entitled to our opinion, but there is no reason for people to be nasty, lol especially on a coupon website…jeez!
After I read Collin’s lemon post, I read through some of the comments on the video. All I can say is that the posts that she deleted had to be just horrible, since some of the remaining posts made me cringe with their rudeness. I don’t think it’s mob mentality at all when so many people come to Collin’s defense . . . I think it’s a reaction from people who have the sensitivity to understand that Collin is a real person, with real feelings, who deserves to know how many of her readers appreciate her & what she does, to try to counteract the rudeness.
Collin, I didn’t see the negative comments. Not to sound silly, but there is only 1 word for them (haters) they hate what you are, and what you have, because they can’t be you. (but of course they will deny that!) I have started my own blog and OMG you must be on here 40+hrs a week! About the lemons, the restaurants don’t have a problem charging $2.50! for a pop (soda, for peeps out west 😉 ) Also, if you add something to your mealc sauce, ect, you are usually charged, but have they ever taken off $$ when you omit something. One company MC——- will cheat you every time, you don’t get egg on your sandwich, couldn’t they give you more than 1 and a half pieces of bacon?? Remember no matter how much we save we are the exception, and the company always comes out on top! Are they the same people at WAL—-, that act like you are trying to steal every time you use a coupon. PS…Haters…leave her alone!
Collin, when I left my comment regarding your video there was nothing but positivity coming from everyone. I don’t understand how some could be so cruel to you. I haven’t read any of the negative comments and to be honest I don’t want too. You are more of a blessing to so many people than you may realize with your blog, videos and savings tips. Please don’t let a few ‘rotten lemons’ spoil it for the rest of us. They just aren’t worth your time or energy; focus on the positive. I love this site and have introduced sooooo many others to it as well. I just lost my job on Thursday, 6 weeks into our new house, and if it wasn’t for your site and others I would be a lot more scared then I am now. I honestly don’t know where you find the time with three children to have your site so full of great information, but I am thankful you do! Looking at your site has become part of my morning routine! I know I am one of MANY who appreciate all you do- please focus on us and not the ones who are negative!

The people that complained are probably the same people that made fun of the christmas thrifty ideas that you posted from another fellow thrifty site with the 2 litre of soda and the same people the made fun of the crocs. Keep your shin up. you are the best.
Collin, I’ve never commented on your website, but I’ve been following since November. I can identify with you because I’m also a young stay-at-home Mom. I’ve always loved to look for bargains, but never had any idea you could save this much money using coupons at drugstores! It’s so much fun and I absolutely LOVE your funny videos. OMG! With all that is going on in this world, and all that this site provides people are worried about lemons and sugar. I have NEVER replied on a site before, but I have to put my 2 cents in. I don’t know what was said to you but I have some advice that I try to live by – It is not you, it’s them! I’ve discovered in life that the when people are mean or catty or insensitive, it is not a commentary on you; it simply reflects their own problems and weaknesses and faults.
You are amazing and upbeat and so fun. The commentator has some problems. The comments are not about you, not really.

I too thought the lemon ‘controversy’ was silly! I always ask for lemons with my water because I like the taste of them in it. A long time ago a friend had told me about making ‘free’ lemondade and we just thought it was a silly thing to do. If they didn’t want you to eat or use the lemons, they wouldn’t give them to you! Keep up the good work! I love your videos and blog and look to them for savings everyday. : ) There are always going to be people who have something negative to say about everything, just take it with a grain of salt and move on. Some people forget to see the positive in things. Like the fact that it was just a suggestion to order lemons..not a requirement. A helpful hint is always nice and appreciated-whether you decide to use the hint or not is your choice. I love that Collin tries to think of fun and creative ways for all of us to save a dollar here and there. If you don’t like it, stop looking at the blog. Jerks.

I can tell you the restaurants that we all eat for UNDER twenty bucks at! And I can tell you that we almost always order water, one of us orders a tea, etc. and my hubby and I SHARE it! The kids often drink water too. Because honestly, the portion size too these days is more than enough for one adult! Hello! 😎 ….. Good gracious, I can’t believe anyone would even think of commenting on lemon water! My husband and I ALWAYS order “water with lemon” when we’re out (actually he orders lemon AND lime!) and I would never think anything of it – it’s cost saving and healthy. Your videos are great – I really appreciate all the time it takes to put them together. It’s very sad that some brainless, thoughtless idiots would post rude comments (apparently these people don’t understand there is a REAL PERSON on the receiving end!), but please don’t let that deter you from helping the rest of us.
Your website and videos have literally changed my family’s life. We went from spending $900 a month on groceries to $400 a month thanks mostly to your website teaching me to shop frugally. I rave about your website to everyone I know. Please don’t stop the videos. You are awesome!
