The Lemon that started it all…
First, I don’t NEED to justify the “lemon” situation in my Follow Me Monday video (maybe the container of lemon wedges was actually for the WHOLE table? Ya think? …AND maybe I only needed 2 Lemon wedges to make the kind of lemonade I like… and maybe I gave the server a HUGE tip because she put up with us… and maybe I was a server for a few years, so I UNDERSTAND… ).
Anyway, the point of this post is to express how I feel. I am not one of those people that can bottle stuff up inside. That’s just not me. I put myself out there on these videos and it’s scary. I also work very hard every week getting these videos made for all of you. I felt the response this week (I actually had to delete some of the comments) was not too positive. I want to continue making videos, but if I feel like this every Monday, it’s definitely not going to work.
Just please try to remember that I have feelings…
Oh and when I talked to my hubby about the whole lemon ordeal he said, “What lemons? When did we have lemons?” Him saying that made me feel so much better… made me realize once again, that this whole lemon crisis is NOT a big deal!
…And one more thing—it is just a stinkin’ lemon!

Collin, I just love your site, I go on it at least 20 times a day and I raved about it to my mom and my sister and I just got them hooked on your site too1 Your are an amazing person and I love what you do and you do very well with it and you need to keep going. What those ppl did was wrong and cruel but you have way too many fans and followers of your blog that would be lost with out it, I know I would! I am a marine wife too and honestly you have helped me alot since my husband and I got married last april, your site is so helpful and it helped me with my new military budget lifestyle. Thanks for all you do. I do the lemon thing too and I worked at a bar and waited also there and i had tons of customers that would do that with the lemons, it is a great idea to make your own lemonade at the table. So please keep doing your follow me monday videos my husband and i love watching them together and keep uo the great work you help so many of us everyday with your blog:)

And, like so many of your followers, I am so thankful for all the time and effort you put in to this site. I love your videos their is no shame in saving money. Some restaurants offer packets that are used to change the color of milk or juice so I just add a little sugar and make kool-aid with four kids drinks get expensive. So your lemon idea is great I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have not watched the follow me Monday clip yet, but I browsed through some of the comments…..you need to know, for every negative comment you get, you’ve got 100’s of positive. You are one of the more popular sites and I hope you don’t let the cruel, negative people get to you. I LOVE your site and your videos and I bet most of the people that are rude are just jealous and are not happy people. I have no idea what the big deal is with squeezing lemons in your water…REALLY….what is wrong with that? Nothing needs to be said, its ridiculous and I hope you can laugh at it all. If it is too much, take a break from some videos – we will be sad, but understand….take a breather, go enjoy your family and some privacy. I do want you to know how appreciated you are, I love coming here and seeing all the deals you find for us. I am so sorry you had to deal with all of this espically after you have helped so many of us. I just can’t believe some people who think they have a right to be rude to people. My sister dealt with something like this on facebook yesterday. I jsut wish people lived by the old saying if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all.

I cannot even imagine what someone would have to say negative about this! THAT IS CRAZY! We all love you! You are amazing at what you do and what you teach us to do! I can’t tell you how much I have “paid it forward” and helped other single moms like myself save so much money, just because of the knowledge I get from you! Anyone who has anything negative to say is here for the wrong reason and should not waste their time saying anything negative to you! How dare they! I can think of many other blogs they should on voicing their negative opinions. Keep it Collin! I know many other people feel like this too, but since we can put a face with the site, it’s much more personal. We all feel like we know you, and we love you for putting yourself out there. I usually don’t have time to get caught up in the comments and such but this is really important. Just remember all your dedicated followers and how far you have come with this! And it just keeps getting better!

People are so stupid. My goodness. There are people crushed under buildings in Haiti and there are people worried about how many lemons you ordered. People need to mind thier own DARN business. You do a wonderful job. Unfortunately, when you become successful with a blog online, there are always going to be people that are rude and jealous. You are a wonderful lady and very sweet to put in all the time you do to help us all save money. I wish there was a way you could ban those dumb people from even viewing your deals. Funny how they want to benifit from your hard work, but can’t keep thier rude comments to themselves. Please do not take it personally. You have so many fans that appreciate all you do. OH…..and let me add…… I do this ALL the time, simply because I am from the south and we love us some lemonade, and I can make it exactly how I want it. If I order lemonade I usually add water (so I’m paying full price for lemonade but really only get 1/2 a glass because I mix it with water). So it’s just a matter of perspective people.
Hey Collin! I know I’m like the 410th writer, so maybe you won’t even read this, but I love your videos and don’t listen to negativity. I know someone who makes her own lemonade, and it came up as a discussion in my group of friends (this was several years ago), so I know how some people think it’s taking advantage. But we always get lemon to go with our water (yes! we’re saving so much that way, right? And too…skipping those unnecessary calories!), and that’s COMMON PRACTICE at restaurants, so I don’t see what the big deal is if someone wants to add sugar to it too. Go for it.
I’m sorry anybody said something nasty to you, and keep up the fun movies. My toddlers love to watch them with me every Monday! 🙂

I saw the video this afternoon, enjoyed it and as always appreciated the helpful tips. I won’t go back and read all the posts so I don’t know exactly what their problem is/was. Collin do not let the nasty opinions of a few upset you, those people suck. Plus you never know who is posting. You never know if these are pot stirrers, trolls, other bloggers jealous of you, your successful site, and your fabulously fun and informative Follow Me Monday videos.

Why do some people have to be so mean? I can’t watch videos as I have dialout Internet so I’m not sure what is going on. I do appreciate your website very much and I am a newbie. I really don’t know any of the ropes yet to really savemoney other than clipping coupons but please know I personally am very appreciative. the heck with them. If they don’t have anything nice than they should stay away. Mean People suck.

I’ve been reading your blog for a few weeks now and having so much fun. It makes this not so rich SAHM feel like a millionaire when I hit the drugstores. And if it makes you feel any better, not only have I been making table lemonaid, but I have also been bringing my own drink packets (bought with my Walgreen’s rewards!) to dinner with me as well. My husband is mortified by it, especially when the waiter is trying hard to figure out what kind of refill to get me!
Collin, I just wanted to get in on the encouragement. :0) I didn’t see the comments but I’m glad that you took the time to say something about how you felt. ‘Hurting people hurt others’. Pray for those that have tried to hurt you with their words and don’t even give them a second thought after that. I’m glad you went ahead and got things off your chest because you don’t have to justify anything to anyone.
I love your site and keep you page up and constantly refresh throughout the day to see what new deals and freebies you have posted. I LOVE your site, but never really read the comments so when I saw your entry about people making a fuss over lemons in your video, I felt badly for you! You put up a wonderful site that has been a great tool for myself and friends. Unfortunately it sounds like you dealt with some “takers’ who were probably on your site for tips in the first place, and it’s a bit sad that they posted ugly words in response to tips you were giving. Actually, putting lemon in your water is healthy, so good for you for adding lemons to your water! And, I don’t know if you’ve heard this (I just heard it recently): when dining out, it’s a great idea to ask for a whole lemon and cut it for yourself when ordering water since sometimes employees in restaurants cut into lemons with not-so-clean knives and spread germs (the gentleman who advised this info was on an episode of Rachael Ray recently, and I believe he speaks on “The Biggest Loser”).

Collin, I have been making lemonade for years…. the price they charge for drink is way too high. and when you have a health problem as mine (no sugar, no caffeine) it’s the only thing to drink I always ask if they have diet 7up but have yet to have a restauant tell me yes…couldn’t get a lemon tonight to save my life. asked twice.. she got a nice tip NOT. so keep up the good work for all us out here..

Not that you need another comment, but.. I never thought of the lemonade thing and I thought that was a good idea until I remembered about the high count of bacteria on restaurant lemons. If you get sick, how am I going to get my deals? 😀
You could do your videos upside down and I’d still watch. They are awesome and all of your hard work has saved me money. I even send some of the links to the videos to my mom and she wonders how they let you film in the stores, but I say who cares, see the savings! It’s much easier to show her how to use a coupon (ie the hallmark $5 off one from around Christmas) from your video than having me tell her on the phone as she lives a plane ride away. It got her to the store with the coupon!
I know you always have to lean forward to be able to hear at those restaurants anyway, otherwise the whole video would be background noise.

HaHa….I used to be a waitress, and I have done the lemonade trick soooooo many times…..and moreover, we didn’t serve lemonade at the restaurant I used to work at….so I taught kids and their parents how to make the lemonade at the table all the time!!! They always thought it tasted great….and it was free! :o) Keep up the good work.

Since finding your website a few months ago, my life has changed…I never knew how much money you could save and all the great things you could get!! God has truly given you a gift and it is wonderful of you to take the time out of your life with your husband and children to share it with the rest of us!! There will always be people out there that are not nice and I am sorry that you have had to deal with that, but please don’t let it get to you so much to make you question if you should do this anymore because you have helped so many families out with your generosity!! I saw your video earlier, & LOVED everything in it (including your husband ducking out of the way- hee, hee). I was going to leave a comment ( a postive one) but had to leave right then. Came back to see if you had any additional posts & was SHOCKED to see that ordering LEMON was such a HUGE deal! So I read some of the comments to see what the fuss was all about. I seriously can not believe the comments people have enough nerve to leave! Some say it is “tacky”, what’s tacky is there ruthless comments! There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with ordering lemon, heck most restaurants even ask you – would you like some lemon with your water? So by me saying yes please, I am considered “tacky”? I think NOT! So if I ask for ketchup, is that “tacky” because I am not “paying” for that exact item that is offered by the restaurant? I think NOT! Someone was even low enough to throw out a comment about “stealing”? Are you SERIOUS? So I could be prosecuted for ordering lemon & using a sugar packet that is provided to use on the table? Slap the silver bracelets ON! Can you tell I am a little fired up about the scrutiny of some people?!?!? Ok, I seriously need to put my foot in my mouth because I could go on & on about the ignorance in the comments people left! 😡

Ok, I finished all the lemon controversy. Collin, you are a rising star, and you are going to run into these kinds of people. This won’t be the last time, and it won’t be the worst of it either. Some people hate it when others become successful. Be able to listen when criticism will help you get better, and brush the rest off. Then carry on!

I just love that you posted about the lemon! BTW, my husband started making his own lemonade at restaurants all on his own a year or two ago, so you are not alone! LOL I teased him at first (he is Mr. Frugal to a fault), but I never thought ill of him or anyone else for doing it. We usually just order water anyway, so it’s not “stealing” a soda sale from the server. The lemon and sugar is complimentary, so I see no problem in consuming it, in “lemonade” form or not! Heck, my little brothers and I used to eat a packet or two of sugar before a dinner out when Mom and Dad weren’t looking…

Your video was HILARIOUS and I really enjoyed it. Also, my boyfriend laughs at me and my coupon adventures ALL THE FLIPPIN’ TIME and he also calls them ‘my coo-pins” in this really ridiculous voice whenever I pull them out so I almost died when you were in front of the movie theater cause you said them the exact same way as him.

Maybe they sucked on a lemon and are just BITTER Sour Pusses!!!!! You rock and are so darn cute!!! I love the blog and the videos are AWESOME!!!! You just have to ignore the bad because the good comments out weigh the bad. Think of it like you are a superstar in the tabloids. Gotta take the bad with the good. Just let it roll off of you. Collin – don’t worry, you are putting yourself out there and not everyone is going to like you or all your suggestions. Just think of the 99% of people who really appreciate the work you are doing and who post comments about how cute you are or how they would love to be your friend. You give a lot of great suggestions, but I’d guess that not all of them are suitable for every person. So what?
There are always a few people who are negative and judgmental. That’s the way life is and they are everywhere. It can be a real downer. But they are in the minority. They just seem louder than everybody else 🙂

OK I DIED laughing watching that video and for extra measure while I was out for some mama time tonight…I…dare I say it….through a lemon in my water…OK you got me so we had a martinit too…but hey I indulged on the free lemonade at the table and told my girlfriends all about you and now you have 4 new followers as of today.
