First of all, I want to thank all of you that participated in the May 17th “You In Bloom” survey. Your response was amazing! It was such a treat to read about your favorite deals and stores, your hard-to-find discounts (meat, produce, etc.), your tips, questions, and challenges relating to couponing and money-saving strategies. In fact, your input was so helpful that survey results are now posted by US region in the ALL CATEGORIES section of Hip2Save. The survey is titled “READER PICKS & TIPS”. Due to the amount of details you provided, we stopped the survey after 300 email responses. Out of the 300 replies, 109 were from the South, 92 from the Midwest, 61 from the West (one from Hawaii), 37 from the Northeast, and 1 unidentified. As far as level of couponing experience, 187 were experienced, and 113 new to couponing. Some of you put yourselves in the middle between categories, so we made the decision for you!

Your comments were fantastic! We included as much information from each of you as we could – with at least one of your comments or thoughts inserted in the survey and often times quite a bit more of your feedback. New couponers: Many of your questions and challenges are addressed in the TIPS SECTION by the experienced couponers. I encourage all of you to take a look at the results from each and every region. A lot of the tips and the comments are applicable across the country.

Please come back and let me know what you think! I hope you find this as helpful as I did!

So I heard that walgreens is going to have a card just liek cvs. You better stock up on stuff before they limit RR to one per household with card.

    https://www.walgreensrewards.com/

    • Lisa

They do have it. I’m in one of the test cities (Kansas City, MO). I think I will be doing most of shopping at CVS in the future!

      • Jennifer S

I’m in the test city (Kansas City) also and haven’t had a problem yet. But I’m sure its coming. I have one card in my name and one in my husbands name. We will see. I don’t like change.

        • KellyJ

So with that card, does that mean that like cvs u only have a limited amount that u can get on the RR deals?

I am leaving for a trip out west this weekend, can anyone tell me where/what stores double coupons and up to how much? $.50 or $.55, etc? Also, where is a pretty good place to shope for organic foods besides Whole Foods and Trader Joes? Thanks so much. Oh and I will be in Los Angeles if that helps…

Thanks Collin for everything you do!

I’m from Maryland / DC region, which is coded as the South, but I believe I put North East down in my reply. Maryland’s not really part of the South.

  14. Ma Jam

Thanks a lot for putting this all together. Lot of help.

  15. Tawanda!

Hello, reader from the Maryland/DC area!. I helped compile the results for the survey. We agree that states, like Maryland & Delaware, should be part of the NE region. However, the research report on food prices put these States in the South. I hope that we inserted your information in the correct region. Thank you for your comment.

  19. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m from South Dakota and only moved out of state about a year ago. I must say I disagree with the comment on South Dakota food prices being higher, though I’m sure it varies a bit depending on where you are in the state. I’d imagine the woman who made the comment about South Dakota’s prices being higher is probably building in the Black Hills. I’m from the Eastern half of the state and must say I find prices to be very comparable to other states. Although I can’t speak officially for prices on goods in the Black Hills, I’d imagine it’s a bit more pricey because the Black Hills is a major tourist attraction.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Also, some Hy-vees in South Dakota double coupons on certain days of the week. It varies by store, but I know the one in Brookings, South Dakota does a couple days a week if I remember correctly.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I live in SD in the Sioux Falls area. After following many coupon blogs, there is no way in SD you are going to get the competive prices that many others are finding on grocery items if you can’t get the items/sales at Walgreens or Target. We do not have any real major grocery store chains, with the exception of Hy-Vee. Hy-Vee does not allow double coupons at all and often does not offer store coupons on items that are not Hy-Vee brand to allow for stacking. I am so jealous evertime I see sales at Publix, Safeway, CVS, ect b/c there are so many great deals we miss out on!!

Thanks Collin! I saw a lot of the new couponers were asking about meat, produce and organic items. I like to use my local food co-op for the meat and produce! It is usually about 30% off! I can usually get pretty good deals on organic and all natural foods by doing a few things:
    1) I work in a health food store here in Utah, so I get a discount!
    2) Mambosprouts.com has printable coupons, a booklet that can be mailed to you, and you can request for a health food store near you to get the booklets instore!
    3) Ordering grocery, dairy, frozen, bulk, vitamins, and produce by the case (usually 12 come to a case) at the local store that I work at will get you a discount (% varies by department) if the item is not already on sale!
    4) Looking for coupons in the store. We have a Healthy clippings coupon book which has MFG coupons in it. We also have companies send us coupons to put on the products to help sales.
    5) Look in you regular grocery stores for items on clearance. I found many natural/organic items at Smith’s marked 50% off! I have found them in their regular spots on the shelf, and in the clearance section!

    Thank you Collin!

I live in Las Vegas and was reading through the tips for the West and noticed someone put a comment about using Grocerysmarts.com as a tool for couponing. It’s a really cool, free website for the Las Vegas area (and a few other surrounding areas). Well if you live in the Las Vegas area, I teach coupon classes through Grocery Smarts and can get a KILLER deal on the Sunday paper for all those coupons! Yeah! As low as .75 a Sunday! Let me know if you’re interested if you live in the LV area, sjones749@aol.com.

  22. KellyJ

Wow collin! ty so much!! Even as what I like to call myself ” a more experienced couponer” This is insightful. Its nice to know I am not the only one not getting deals on certain things and its nice to see what others think.

  25. Jenny

  26. Laura
