Pay it Forward: Eddie's Dogs in Boise, ID!
As many of you know, we love to Pay it Forward here at Hip2Save. With that being said, my sister, Bryn, asked me if she could share an awesome experience that she had yesterday at a local Boise, ID restaurant. She essentially wants to Pay it Forward to this restaurant as a result of the outstanding customer service she received. So here is Bryn’s story in her own words…
Last night, my sister, Marley, and I were desperate to find an affordable, kid-friendly restaurant to feed our 4 starving and rather rambunctious kiddos. We had frequently passed a local Boise restaurant called Eddie’s Dogs, but had never actually stopped to try their food. We had noticed that Eddie’s Dogs offered a Family Night every Monday from 4PM-8PM and decided this would be the cheapest way to feed our hungry kids. Eddie’s Family Night gives you one free Kid’s Combo Meal with each Adult Combo meal that is purchased…essentially, you can feed a family of 4 with 4 classic dogs, 4 fries and 4 drinks for a total of $11.90! When we arrived at the cash register, we realized that it was indeed Tuesday night (ahhhh, the Labor Day holiday really screwed up my thinking) and so not Family Night. 🙁 Being the frugal Hip2Savers that we are, we decided it was not within our budget to feed everyone at Eddie’s and so decided to go elsewhere. We thanked the cashier and said that we would come back on a future Monday night to try out the affordable Family Night special.
We left the restaurant with the now crabby kids in tow and decided to head over to a local pizza restaurant on foot instead. As we were just about to cross the busy street, a man started frantically waving at us and yelling something we could not understand. Assuming we had left a wallet or cell phone behind, we walked over towards the man who we soon discovered was the owner of Eddie’s Dogs, Eddie himself! Eddie said that he would love for us to come back and try out his hot dogs and that he would be happy to honor the Family Night special for us despite the fact that it was Tuesday night. Eddie personally helped us order (even offering suggestions on what we may like to try) and made sure that the cashier rang up the total correctly. He helped us find a table, made sure the kids were happy, and visited with us throughout the meal. It was very clear that Eddie’s main goal was to ensure his customers were happy… he made a point to visit with all the patrons in the restaurant and truly exemplified outstanding customer service. As I sat there enjoying my delicious classic dog topped with grilled onions, sauerkraut, mustard and pickles, I was determined to somehow Pay It Forward to Eddie.
At the end of our meal, I pulled Eddie aside and more formally introduced myself and told him about a blog that my sister Collin runs called Hip2Save. I explained that both Collin and myself love to highlight companies that exemplify outstanding customer service. As a result, I asked Eddie if I could share this story with our readers. In addition, I asked Eddie if he would be willing to honor Family Night for all the Hip2Save readers in the Boise area and he agreed!
So for all you Boise, Idaho Hip2Savers, here are all the details… through Tuesday, September 14th, Eddie’s Dogs in Boise will offer you the Family Night special on any day at any time (check out Eddie’s Dogs hours and location information here). Just be sure to let the cashier know that you are a Hip2Save reader. This is a great opportunity to try out Eddie’s wood-fired Classic Dogs or Hamburgers that can be personalized with over 26 different toppings (at no extra cost). Also, be sure to order their fries, so you can try their 3 different fry sauces (regular, chipotle and the oh so hot habanero fry sauce)… I was truly in french fry heaven! I was responding to ANON’s response. It seems your are on this this site looking for good deals too! There is nothing wrong with being cheap either!! She shouldn’t have to stay/eat at home with 4 children, so what if the bill is only 12, its Eddie’s promotion that makes it such a good deal!!!!
She didn’t ASK them to do it, they OFFERED! And who would pass that up? Good food, good price, and great customer service…isn’t that what we all want when we go out to eat?

Thanks for sharing about this great experience. While I don’t have a chance to eat much fast food other than McDonald’s and Burger King, I always love to hear of a great story of great service! Eddie really deserves our business even after the 14th of Sept for the way he went out of his way to make two families feel very valuable!

Boy am I surprised that you are posting about a place in Boise! That is some awesome customer service! I live in a city on the other side of Boise. I’ll have to talk my husband into going to Eddies. It is 15 miles from me. We don’t usually go that direction.

I just have to say thank you for sharing such a great story. I personally love when a company or a person makes someone’s day. I think we all forget that we all have the power to be kind and gracious with others and make someone’s day so much better. Thank goodness there are people like Eddie (and Collin and Bryn) in the world. I so wish I lived closer to try this place out.

And to the person that wanted to call Collin’s sister cheap, did you ever think that maybe he offered a great deal because his business is struggling? I’m not sure about where you live but we have had WELL OVER 6,000 people being laid off here from major companies, we have had numerous stores close, and small stores suffer. So it was probably a win win for both of them. Or maybe he’s just a nice guy. Either way they didn’t ask he offered. I am so tired of seeing the negative comments on here. There are other sites for that. This is a happy positive site, let’s please keep it that way.

Thanks for sharing this story. Although I live in Florida and far from Boise, it is still refreshing to hear about great service and people who want to do the right thing for others. My husband and I try to support local businesses whenever we can as we understand how tough it is for many of them with the economy right now. Eddie obviously understands the power of great customer service (and it sounds like the hotdogs were pretty darn good, too!)

That is so awesome. I have to mention a well known fast food restaurant that seriously goes out of their way. Chick-fil-a. I went there while on a trip to Utah and was shocked at their customer service. It was a rainy day, and one of their staff met us out at our car with a big umbrella and escorted us in! I was amazed right there. Then, after we ordered, they brought out our food, got any condiments we wanted (they were help yourself anyway), and told us to just get their attention anytime we needed anything else. They had a whole station full of fun kid stuff, from coloring pages, to wipes, to placemats and bibs, and even little individual containers of cheerios and other snacks. How amazing is that? And, they had staff that walked around to fill up your drinks and brought around their tasty mints. They also cleared your trash for you, even though the trashcans are so close. I was seriously amazed that a fast food restaurant would go out of their way to make everyone’s experience so worth it and fun!
I do live in Boise and have been to Eddie’s a few times. I am a vegetarian (I know, eating at a hot dog place??) but they have a really good veggie hot dog and my husband and I have loved it every time we’ve been. Great customer service and the food is great! I highly recommend Eddies if you live in the Boise area!
Wow, they have a Veggie Dog! Now that is awesome that they would cater to vegetarian clientel. Wish I live in Boise or was goint to Boise. I would so love to do business there.
So awesome!!! I don’t eat meat either and we will be going to Boise on vacation soon, now I know where I am going to get every night LOL
Then also check out Mai Thai while you’re here. They are considerably spendier than Eddie’s but have a big meatless selection. And, they are on restaurant.com as well so you can make up for the higher prices with a certificate from there 🙂
