Hip2Save may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you via trusted partners and affiliate links in this post. Prices and availability are accurate as of time posted. Read our full disclosure policy here.

THIRD UPDATE: Target posted the following in response to someone questioning the BOGO coupon on their Facebook page…

SECOND UPDATE: Before you head out, you may want to read through the comments below to learn about Hip2Saver’s most recent experiences.

UPDATE: After reading through the comments, it sounds like many of you are skeptical that this deal will actually work at your local Target. As I mentioned below, it worked just fine for me an hour or so ago as the cashier simply scans the Mobile Coupon barcode on your phone and the savings are applied automatically (the cashier does not have to key in any info). If you do indeed head out to test the deal, please share your success stories and/or any issues that you experienced below.

Wowza! Throw on your running shoes and sprint over to Target for a smokin’ HOT deal! If you are not yet signed up for Target Mobile offers, you’ll need to text OFFERS to 827438 (note that standard text messaging fees will apply) and click on the link that will be immediately texted back to you. Fill out the required info, follow the directions and you will receive a unique link for several Target Mobile coupons valid through October 4th – note that it took about 5 minutes for this text to arrive.

One of these Target Mobile coupons is valid for Buy One Accessory Item (sunglasses, jewelry or watch) and Get 1 Free up to a $58.99 value. And here’s the best part – clearance items do qualify and the higher priced item is the one that is ringing up FREE in the system. That means you can snag a FREE Accessory item (up to a $58.99 value!) when you purchase another accessory item on clearance – and yes, this makes for one *Smokin’ HOT* deal. Check out what I just scored at my Target here in Boise…

Buy 1 pair of Earrings $2.38
(note that clearance prices will vary but you should be able to find a similar deal)
Buy 1 Timex Watch $49.99
Use the Target Mobile coupon valid for Buy 1 Accessory Item Get 1 Free (cashier just needs to scan the barcode on your phone)

Final Cost $2.38 for both item!! Amazing!!!!

Come back and let us know what you are able to snag!

(A BIG thanks to reader, Sara, for emailing this deal!)

My Target honored it. Though the $$ didn’t come off automatically, so a manager had to be called to help manually enter it. He said “oh yeah, we got an email about this and we will take off the higher priced item.” Nice!!!

BTW, I got a $2.38 earrings and $7.99 earrings…no interest in the watch.

  2. Gigi

YAY!!! I got mine and I got my mother one too. I had my son download the app :). Thanks for this post!!

  3. Aimee

    Thanks for all you do!

  4. Elise

Not judging people either way, whether you did the deal or not. But just a thought. Would you take advantage of this deal if you were dealing with a mom-and-pop store? If they sent out a flyer with a coupon with a misprint, and you knew that it would drive them out of business if they honored those coupons? I think most of you would not demand the mom-and-pop shop to honor those coupons. But with Target, your views become different. Why? Is it OK to take advantage of Target because Target is not a person, but an entity? Why is that OK? Why should your values and morals waver depending on who you’re dealing with?

If a Target copywriter or proofreader got fired today, would you say, “well, he/she was incompetent in her job so he/she should be fired”?

    • Jess

I hope you feel like garbage now that target admits this is a LEGIT deal

      • Elise

I don’t feel like garbage, thank you. If it is a legit deal, I will now go and do the deal at Target with a light heart, having confirmation from them. Why would I feel like garbage for having some questions for thought? I welcome other people’s views and opinions so that they may help me understand and grow to know that there are many differing views in the world…and that sometimes I change views if a good argument is made, points that I had not considered before. But in the process, I don’t tell people that they should go and feel lousy because they have different views from me. Really? How old are we now?

Opinions are just that…not wrong, and not right. So I disagree with you, and you want me to feel like garbage. Very mature. I hope you are having a good day, hopefully everyone is.

      • Sally

Jess I hope you feel like a judgmental cow!

    • Donna

YOU ARE JUDGING. Your rant above proves it. Target FB page confirms that the way Collin used the coupon is legit. YOU should be ashamed of yourself making you out to be all high and mighty. Move along, move along.

      • Elise

And thank you for judging me in the process.

        • Anne

Well dear, perhaps you should have called Target yourself to confirm this deal before you posted the first comment. And how strange now that someone else has confirmed it, you will “with a light heart” go take advantage of it.

  5. Rosa Poulos

Omg!!!! I just tried it and works very easy, I didn’t have any problem! Thank you for share with us! Xoxo

  6. Mel

Darn! Wish I had done this deal tonight. I just went to target for a huge grocery gtrip and managed to only spend $190 on $300 worth of products. Including the little Mermaid deal and the Glade deal. My cashier had to bag a million things, scan a million coupons, my phone, my cartwheel, my 5%Rx reward, and used my RedCard. He didn’t complain or give me a hard time and was very impressed by how much I saved. Surely he wouldn’t have blinked an eye if I got a free watch! My target rocks especially customer service. Too bad all targets can’t be as appropriately professional. I never ever leave feeling like I did something wrong even when I spend next to nothing, thanks to collin for traching me everything I know about couponing!

    • ALICE

CONGRATS MEL….. ITS ALL ABOUT SAVING MONEY…. I TAUGHT MY DAUGHTER AND SHE AMAZING AT IT…..

  7. Maria T.

Sheesh! The Sanctimonious Shoppers are out in force in this thread! Get a grip, people.

How do any of you know that Target didn’t do this on purpose to generate buzz? And no, I don’t believe that your average CSR on the phone would have any actual idea of what was going on if this is the case so I wouldn’t trust them for accurate information.

    • Sarah H.

This is true. Just called my Target and they hadn’t heard of it. They told me with a valid coupon and a screen shot of Target’s comment that they will honor for the higher-priced merch. Thanks for the deal! Honestly, with the possibility of my husband not getting paid for who-knows-how-long (he is a restricted federal worker, so he can’t even look for another job….) this deal is literally a God-send.

  8. me

The target by my house on 43rd and peoria said they weren’t honoring it for clearance items….

    • Donna

      Goodyear, az honored mine

      • me

Lucky cashier told me you can’t use in clearance items

  9. Jen M

This is an amazing deal! Thanks for all that you do! 🙂

  10. Donna

This is great! I did this in az tonight, down loaded on 3 phones, and my girls and i all picked out something….total savings……$80….Thank u

    • ashley

What location did you go too in ARIZONA?

  11. Tina

It worked here in central ca, I bought 4.99 earings ( was the cheapest item) and got a silver timex men’s watch $39.99 for free( was the highest price item). When I got to the register the cashier already knew what coupon I was gonna use. He said there was a glitch earlier but that the coupon worked fine when I got there. Thanks so much 🙂

  12. Rain

Elise, that’s a dumb analogy, we are not talking about a mom and pop store. Do you have any idea how many real mom and pop stores Target has put out of business? You want to talk about morality? Let’s talk about that!

    • Elise

I’m not talking about what Target has done. I’m talking about what YOU would do.

  13. Rebecca

My Target in Palm Springs, CA honored it. The cashier even said she had the coupon loaded and ready to use after her shift! Thanks for the tip!

  14. cathycampo

I tried this deal at Target in Cupertino, CA. I picked out a clearance watch 4.98 and full price watch 39.99. Cashier scanned my phone but it gave error message. Another cashier came over and said there had been several errors from mobile phone offers that day. She manual pushed through deal and entered price of clearance watch by hand. So, not working here. There was normal regular selection of watches and not wiped out.

    • Carmen

You need to select a jewelry item no matter the cost & a watch. Have them scan the watch first than the jewelry. It will work just fine. On Target Facebook page they stated that they in fact will honor the coupon, and that they are notifying all their stores to discount the higher priced item. If you have problems take a pic or print of the their Facebook page since that store might not received the message.

  15. Alexander

anyone in San Diego, Ca try this yet?

  16. Tracy

We each need to choose to use a certain coupon or not. If you think it’s worth your time and effort to get a free $50 item just for the sake of getting a free deal, then by all means go for it. Someone said they actually used this deals 3 times and 6 times! It’s no different to me as if someone spends $2 on a $50 item and then decides to turn around and sell it for a profit on ebay (isn’t it what a lot of people are doing for the oh-so-hot Philip Lam handbags?). What happens if that same someone uses the ebay profit to buy food for their family? Does it make it okay? We don’t know all the stories and it’s up to us to judge or not judge. I will personally pass on this deal as I think I will be too embarassed to use it. However, I also don’t think I need to get angry about other people using it. If I don’t agree with the deal or method and I will simply move on.

  17. Bridget

I got my watch free and bought a necklace for $5.00, I needed the watch and the necklace. They ringed up the the watch first then the clearance item.
    Thank u!

  18. lineth

Just to clarify from Target i just read this on their facebook site

Yes, we are honoring the coupon in-store. You can use the coupon one once before the expiration date and receive the most expensive item free (max value $58.99). We’ll see you soon! – Shelly

    • Amy

Can’t find this. Can you post a link to their Facebook page? Thanks!

      • Donna

REALLY??! A link, get over it and move on. thanks.

  19. Sheena

Anyone know if it’s working today??

  20. Manuela

I am startled about some of those comments and they way GROWN ADULTS, who are supposed to be an example for their children, talk to each other about something simple like that. We are all human and make mistakes “let he who is without sin throw the first rock”. There is no right or wrong it’s a coupon issued by Target. Choose for yourself to use it or not.

  21. deja

Gigi, you said you had your son download the app? how did you do it? my son has a kindle fire and i’d like to get a watch for him too

  22. lnecss

Thanks Collin! I’m in TX and the coupon worked just fine. My son and my husband both used the mobile coupon as well. Total savings $150!! Thanks for all you do – you are appreciated!!

  23. Pia

Just did this deal at 8:45 this morning in Columbus OH..worked like a charm. Free $50 watch with a piece of jewelry for $4.

  24. foga

I have unlimited text messages but my phone is blocking texts from this

    • Pinki

Contact your cell phone service provider…you might have a block on your phone

  25. Mel

I think it’s the $ amount that has people thinking that it’s wrong to do it. If it was buy a $1 item, get a $5 item free, it wouldn’t be a big deal but spending $2 and getting $50 free feels wrong somehow even though some of us get great deals like this by using coupons w/ sales at the grocery store all the time!

  26. Christine

I just did this deal. I got my 5yr old son a small digital watch for 34.99 and earrings for 4.99 for my daughter. I hesitated to do this, but after giving this deal a day to correct itself and it didn’t, I said why not? I needed a simple watch for my son to learn how to tell time. Thanks Collin! This will be a wonderful Christmas gift for both of my kids!

  27. Leslie

After seeing a post on Facebook that this deal is correct and they are giving us the best deal by giving us the most expensive item free I went and did the deal. Worked great!!!

  28. CSwan1986

I skipped it last night because I thought it wouldn’t work, but after Target’s FB post I tried it today. Worked perfectly – the cashier was like WOW! God myself earrings for $2.38 and a $49 watch for the hubby. Yay! Collin, you rock – thanks for all of your hard work to help us save $$!

    • Patti

I did the exact same deal here in Charleston, SC at 8:00 am est (minus the hubby..LOL)
The men’s watch I will “DONATE” to my churches Adopt a family this Christmas. Always tough to buy for the older boys. So for all the negative posters out there, this deal can be used for “POSITIVE” random acts of kindness. Try it, you’ll like it.

  29. stephanie

it didn’t work for me this morning. i had a clearance necklace and a watch. when the cashier scanned the coupon it said there was no match. 🙁

    • adam

Is there a chance you would be willing to send your # under the bar-code, so I could try? I guess I wasn’t signed up for mobile coupons. I’d be happy to send coupons or something else in return (I have multiple computers, so if you need more than 2 of a print). 616grr@ gmail.com

  30. Dorothy

Sometimes I think people get way too greedy when it comes to a deal. Sure, Target made another mistake and now has to pay for it, but don’t we all make mistakes in life. Just because they didn’t double, triple, quadruple (etc) check their mistake, it doesn’t mean we should necessarily take advantage of it. Of course, Target shouldn’t have accepted the coupon for some and not others though. However, people complaining and whining on Target Facebook is so childish and greedy-like. No need to throw a tantrum over something so simple. I wish people could just be happy with what they already have. Don’t let greed take over your life.

  31. Jewelsmn

Just worked for me in Minnesota. Yeah!!

  32. SArah

worked for me in lafayette, LA at target on lousiana ave. went around 8:40 this morning! got the coupon last night!

  33. Tim

I signed up after getting the ‘immediate’ text, but never got a text with the actual coupon that could be used. I signed up last night and again a bit ago, yet nothing came. Did anyone else have this problem?

    • Susan

I had to text back Y to allow messages and then the coupon link came immediately.

  34. Brenda

I just left my Target store and bought a $2.38 pair of earrings and the $49.99 Timex ironman watch. She scanned my mobile coupon and it took the price of the watch off. Also used my Target debit card which gives 5% off and took in my reusable bag which takes off 5 cents so total owed was $2.21!! I plan on giving the watch to a person at my church who needs it. The cashier was so excited and said she was going to do the same deal plus she gets a 10% employee discount. There were plenty of choices of watches and clearance jewelry. Thank you for letting us know about this wonderful deal!!

  35. Tiffany

How do you get the coupon if it is still working? I signed up and confirmed for target messages. How long does it take to get the coupon?

    • Tiffany

Never mind. As soon I hit post comment, the text message came through, 🙂

  36. kristina

wow….I’ll have to try this…thanks collin!

  37. Shanshan

Kudos to Collin for posting, and a HUGE KUDOS to Target for honoring the coupon.

  38. brandice

Just worked for me in Norcross Ga 1140 EST

  39. Susan

Tried to do this deal yesterday, register didn’t recognize the coupon, went to a different target today and it worked! Scored a necklace/earring set for under $3. Perfect Christmas gift!

  40. MalibuBeachBum

Worked for me this morning. Employee in the jewelry department said she rang up the same deal for someone yesterday and thought it was fantastic. After ringing me up, she whipped out her phone, pulled up her coupon and started looking for a watch for herself. Thanks Collin!

  41. Braxtonway

I just did this deal at Target. The coupon automatically deducted the watch and the cashier did not give me any nasty glares. =)

  42. Des

FYI: I ‘m from Houston TX my first attempt the coupon did not go through. I had a $3 clearance braided bracelet and a women’s TMX watch. I did a second attempt with a $2.38 clearance earrings and a men’s TMX watch and the coupon worked. I think it depends on the jewelry you pick if the coupon works or not. Thank you Collin for everything you do. You really are a inspiration, just focus on the positive and ignore the negative. Thanks again!!!

    • ALICE

I TAUGHT YOU WELL, MY AMAZING DAUGHTER DES……. LOVE YOU !! AM SOOOOO PROUD OF ALL THE MONEY YOU HAVE SAVED YOUR FAMILY!! MOM

  43. LB

Just did this deal in Smyrna, GA. No issues, no questions, no problems 🙂

  44. Vanessa

I just did this deal in Syracuse, NY and it took off $49.99 no problem at all! My husband was in need of a watch, and this is an awesome deal! Thank you so much for ALL that you do Collin!

  45. rensee

i did this deal in houston tx worked with no probs== U ROCK COLLIN! I got the last ironman watch 49.99 and just paid for the necklace 1.50 on clearance ! WOOO HOOOOOO!

  46. Pharmchick

I went ahead and did the deal in Maine today, no problem! The cashier was super nice too and knew of the deal lol. Good selection left. I wonder if they would let us exchange? The one I got has some scuff marks on it. I can’t complain since it’s free lol but still…

  47. trippy79

FYI to everyone… Target has been officially reply commenting about the BOGO coupon for this deal on their fb page with the following reply “Yes, we are honoring the coupon in-store. Yes, the coupon is valid and is designed for you to get the best deal, so the most expensive item will be free (max value $58.99). – Heather”

They are also telling customers whose stores are denying the coupon and or having management manually overriding the coupon (by taking the lower priced item off as free and not the highest) to not leave the store but rather go to guest services and ask them to call corporate and speak to them about it to get it sorted out. They should correct the transaction on the spot using the coupon the way it was intended to be used according to the wording (which Collin used correctly, so a lot of you have some apologizing to do lol) to give you the best deal by taking off the highest priced item and NOT the lowest.

I suggest that if you purchased items intend for this deal and used the coupon and were told you couldn’t use it and or paid for the higher priced item, you should go back to the store and have them correct it and get your money back.

I know I’m going to have a lot of difficulty at my Target using this coupon later today (it’s just how they are at my store with people who coupon) but I’ll feel much better doing it by knowing that Target corp has my back on this one. =)

    • trippy79

And an even better response on their fb page regarding this coupon…
“We’re sorry for any confusion with our coupon. The coupon is designed for you to get the best deal, so the most expensive item will be free. If you’re coupon wasn’t honored, please visit the Guest Service desk at your local store within 3 days of your purchase to get the adjustment. Please remember the coupon expires on Friday, October 4th. Also, you would need to make the adjustment before it expires. – Kathy”

  48. Andrea

Just got back used the coupon without any problems

  49. Donna

I wish I could get this offer but I don’t have any kind of cellphone.
