Welcome to the New Hip2Save Site…
So let me start off by saying that I know change is hard. Very hard. I haven’t changed the Hip2Save site since 2009. Yes, 2009, when I moved from Blogger to WordPress. That is a crazy long time to not update or change a website.
So it’s time. Grab your coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, and check out the new site…
I sure hope you like the new site as much as I do! I understand that it may take a bit to get comfortable with the new look so please take some time to get familiar with the site and feel free to leave a comment below with any feedback you have. We hope that you find the site to be more user-friendly, easier to navigate, totally responsive on all of your devices, and that it makes you feel excited to part of this amazing Hip2Save Community!
Here are just a few of the new features:
TWO Ways to View the Site – Yes, we now have TWO different options to view posts on the site! We have the view that you all are familiar with (just like on the old site) – you can just scroll down and continue scrolling to see all of the current deals that have been posted. OR, switch to the grid-view and view 12 deals all at once in small blocks (this is a great option if you’re in a time crunch and want to quickly see the latest deals). You’ll see the image of the deal on these blocks as well as the deal description. If interested in a deal, just click on the block to view the full post. And the best part about both views is that you can easily toggle between the two options!
Navigation Menu – Be sure to check out our new Navigation Menu at the top of the site! This is where you’ll find most everything you’re looking for. Search our online deals (you can even search by category like photo deals, toy deals, and more), search store deals, check out our latest Restaurant deals, and latest freebies and coupons. Plus, easily access free printables available in the “Tips” section, and don’t forget to browse the yummy recipes and frugal DIY ideas.
Our Navigation Menu Follows You – Yes, the navigation menu will now follow you down the site as you browse all the deals so you will no longer have to scroll back up when you decide that you’d like to check out a different section of the site.
Easily View Store Deals – You now can easily view the weekly store match-ups and store guides for each of the popular stores on Hip2Save including Target, Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Just click on the store name in the navigation menu, and you will be taken to the current deals for that store. In addition, you’ll see buttons at the top of each page that link to the current store match-ups and the store guide which contains the store’s coupon policy and more information regarding how to shop at each specific store.
HIP List – Although this is not a new feature, I just wanted to mention it as you can now easily toggle between the HIP list, the grid-view, and the normal full-deal site view. If you’re new or not familiar with the HIP list, it’s a nice feature that allows you to save posts to check out at a later time. Have you ever had moments when you’re either out of time or out of printer ink, or both, and you really want to keep track of a “HIP” deal and/or print a valuable coupon in the next day or two? This is where the HIP list comes into play! 🙂
I don’t usually watch the videos, but thought it was so brave and generous of you to share your history.

The grid view doesn’t work for me and the navigation bar isn’t following me down the page. Any in-site searches I do come up with a blank white page. And the site is very slow…don’t know if it is the increased traffic of everyone checking out the site or not. If I click a story link (vs. viewing from the home page) and if i hadn’t been to your site before I would think I was on a TODAY show page, not H2S. But I access your site from RSS feed so no worries. 🙂

Change is hard. But glad majority like the new web design and all. I am finding it more difficult to follow some things like I use to. Will take some getting use to as most things usually do. What is this Grid thing people are talking about? Am I missing it somewhere in your explanation above? Thanks for all you and your staff do..
Hi Joy,
So the grid-view is just another way to view the deals on the site. When you are on the main page, you’ll see a “Classic View” tab and a “Grid View” tab. If you click on the “Grid View” tab, you’ll be able to see 12 deals on one page which basically show an image and quick description of the deal. The grid view is great if you’re short on time as it allows you to quickly check out multiple deals. Hope that helps!
I like the grid, but it’s a little hard for me to focus on the titles of each post because of all the same shade of blue around it. Would love to see the titles in black, maybe? I say this with love, I promise!

If you could please fix the problem with that top dark blue area doesn’t always go shorter when viewing your posts. It usually stays at about 2 to 3 inches so that makes it difficult to view your posts. Other than that, change is change. The great posts you do is worth visiting your site.

Thanks for acknowledging the comment I made. That’s part of what sets Hip2Save apart from the others. I am going to reply here in case others are having the same thoughts. It’s the comment/description typing font size against the white background. The replies against the cream color are not so bad. They have done psychological studies that show it takes people two weeks to adjust to and accept change…..it’ll get better. Thanks for all you and your team do.

Are you using the chrome web browser? If you are, you can click on the three bars over to the right on the top of your page and press the + by the zoom selection. This will increase your font size (and the page in general). The same can be done in Explorer by clicking on the gear icon. Hopefully this helps!
I was wondering the same thing. I think the font size looks smaller and the pictures look smaller. Also the colors of the boxes and font appear to be similar shades. And yes, it is also may aging eyes. LOL!
I like the new design, but the comment section looks like one huge wall of text. It is very difficult to read through the comments. There isn’t enough color variation to divide each post. The font is too small and too light in color. The boxes around each reply is too light. The white background on each post is too bright making it even more difficult to read. Collin your replies are easy to read due to the tan background, but the font needs to be enlarged. I hope you guys can consider some of these suggestions.

I would love to still be able to see a picture on each post. I’m a visual person and I would always browse deals by looking at the pictures and when something caught my eye I would read the deal on it. I can’t see any pictures at all anymore 🙁

I LOVE the Grid view. I usually use the App, because It took to long to scroll through on my computer, but the grid view fixed that! Thank you for all you do!

Please consider putting the coupon database link back on top. I loved clicking it quick, right before going grocery shopping, just to make sure I wasn’t missing out on some savings. I know it’s still there under coupons, it just isn’t as convenient.

I love the new grid view! It’s great. I am one of those weird people who right clicks the deals I’m interested in, and selects “open in new tab.” The new grid view allows me to do this a lot easier and then I can review the deals I’m interested in.
Two suggestions: the banner image at the top, while cute, is a little large. I would shrink it so the deals appear without scrolling down too much.
This was true of the prior site, but I often go through multiple pages at a time and can’t find an easy way to return to “home” or the most recent posts. Not sure if I’m missing something, but I usually have to click on the web address and delete everything to get to the home page.

What if you click the Hip2Save logo at the top left? That should take you back to the “front” page with the most recent of deals.
The previous site also had a “home” tab you could just click
Love, love, love it! Very modern and HIP. I think it’s so easy to navigate. Love the icons next to each post. I never thought the site needed a refresh but now that I see the new site…it’s great!

In regards to the Navigaton Menu, when I click on a tab (ex. Deals) I get a drop down menu, but it won’t close when I click on the Deals tab again. So when I scroll down, the huge, blue drop down menu covers almost the whole page as I scroll down. Also, can’t enlarge the page. I’m using an iPad.
Oh how annoying! When you get a chance, can you email me a screenshot of what you’re seeing and also what browser and device you’re using to collin@hip2save.com? Hopefully we can help get the issue fixed.

I really like the new site, especially the grid view! I will say that I miss the old mobile view, though. I visit hip2save on my phone exclusively, because I don’t need to see pictures when I’m just scouting deals quickly (on the old mobile, picture-less site, if I really needed to see pictures, I would switch to “Full Site” view). The new design takes longer to view, and I am limited to 12 deals at a time, whereas on the old mobile view on my phone, once I clicked “Load more posts,” I could see everything on one page. Will there be a more “succinct” mobile site coming? Or am I missing something? I’m predicting that I won’t be visiting the site as often as I used to because I’m always strapped for time, but I don’t want to miss out on the deals!
I really like the blue tones with the orange and white, and I LOVE the quick links on the left of each post. So easy to navigate! I tell everyone I know about hip2save; I won’t stop now! 🙂 Thanks for everything you do, Collin, and congratulations on all you have accomplished!
I agree! I loved the mobile view, and it loaded much faster than some of those “other” couponing sites :o). While I live the look of this new site, I really miss the very speedy old mobile view!!

Thanks for all of the feedback regarding the mobile view. I am definitely going to pass this info along to the team as I want to make sure that the mobile site is loading quickly and is making your lives easier when it comes to grabbing deals (not harder). Also, have you all checked out the free Hip2Save App? I love the app as it makes browsing through the deals a breeze. 🙂
I tried three different times throughout the afternoon and couldn’t figure out why the site wasn’t loading on my iPhone or ipad. I guess the change explains for now. I was tired of looking at the blue plaid, although I thought it was pleasing. It’s sort of like reupholstering a new chair that is perfectly good and I still like the fabric, I’m just tired of it! I find all this white hard on my eyes, but perhaps because I’m tired and it is late.
I have to agree. I really appreciated the mobile site view too. I could easily read each title and go through them quickly on my phone. I don’t really need the pictures when scrolling through your great deals. Also, black titles would be a lot easier to read than blue.
Have you downloaded the free Hip2Save app? I think you will really like it if you enjoyed the old mobile site.

First – Let me say when the page loaded, I thought “oh no, her site has been hacked!”
Second – Wow… such a big change (I’m taking deep breaths) during the time of year when I’m on your site constantly looking for black Friday deals. That’s one way to force me to get used to it faster than I usually would. 🙂
Third – I think this “welcome to the new hip2save site” post should have stayed as the top post for a few days so it didn’t get burried so quickly. Or at least a banner at the top that links to this post, so those of us that had insanely busy days and are catching up today or tomorrow can find it and don’t miss out on the new features! I’ll get used to it… as a professional website developer, you’d think I would handle this kind of change better. It never gets easier. Change is hard.

Love the new site, its modern and stream line but I really loved the old site. In fact think I already miss the old h2s, it was just so authentic and original and super user friendly, and I’ve been using it since 2009 ha! maybe that’s why I miss it. I love the look of the new site! It will take a little getting used to but I think it’s going to be a great change. The only thing I can’t seem to find is the page for store specific deals. On the old site on the top right where logos of several stores and you could click on it. For instance when I’m in target I like to pull up all of the recent target deals. I’m mostly on my phone and I can’t seem to find that sort of option.

Thanks for the feedback. And to find specific store deals, just click on the ‘Deals’ tab on the navigation menu and then it should drop down and you’ll see the various stores to click on. So for example when you click on Target, you’ll be able to see all of the current Target deals. Also, when you are on the Target deals page, you can click to quickly view the “Match-Ups” right at the top in the Target header. Hope that helps!

Is there a way to bring up all the posts for a certain day like there used to be? I loved that feature when I was gone for a few days and wanted to view old posts, but didn’t want to have to scroll through all the previous days. I also liked the time being given for each posting. This seems pretty easy to navigate. Thanks for all your work, especially at this time of year!

Love the new site! The grid is awesome. I do have a problem with the app that I am not sure others have. As long as I am on wi-fi, I can see the deals. However, if it is off and I am using data, I see nothing. Even after pulling the screen to refresh it’s empty. I have double checked my settings to make sure data has permissions for this app. Any thoughts?
How odd… no one else has emailed about this issue. My one suggestion is removing the app and then re-downloading to see if that fixes the issue. If not, please feel free to email me – collin@hip2save and I’ll definitely try to help. Thanks!
Hey Anne, I have had a similar problem on my (android) smartphone in the past. For me, it was my phone settings – I was still getting used to android and didn’t know that when I left my house or work, my phone was constantly trying to connect to random available networks! So I’d be at the bus stop with no working internet and unable to log in to pay my fare. Ugh! All I had to do was UNcheck the “notify me when an open network is available” box under settings–>wifi–>advanced settings. Another option, in a pinch, is to just shut off your phone’s wifi use completely. For me, that forces it to go through my cell data instead. Hope maybe that helps/applies!

Clean, bad idea to lose your branding color, the other shade of blue set u apart and was effective. Losing or changing something such as a brand color at this stage of the game can be risky:(. Love hip2save wanna keep seeing you do well.

There really isn’t anything to screenshot unfortunately. The page loads almost all the way, (I can see the full posts, pictures and all) but then just closes. I’m using a Motorola Xoom and using Internet Explorer I’m assuming. Your page is favorited so I haven’t had to look!

First of all, congratulations on the new layout! Love it specially the grid. Change is good & mostly for the better although i must admit i miss the old one too. My fave on the old one was being able to see & select stores like Target, CVS, etc. right away.

Your site and another are the top two sites I stalk the most bc the layout is so easy to follow. I usually hate change. There is not one thing With this new layout that I don’t like. It’s different for sure, but I will still stalk just as much! 🙂

Hopefully the speed issues have been resolved and it’s running faster for you today.
I second the person asking for the coupon database link (and direct store links) back for easier access, and the person saying the top banner is too large. To me the banner to the right (with the Today Money links) is too large also; I wish the middle area where the deals go would be just a bit more prominent.
The overall tone of the site does seem a bit bright/too white, maybe the left side “bar” on posts (with the date of the post, comments etc.) could be a darker white or something?
On individual posts I do like that it lists how many hours ago it was posted, but maybe it could have both time posted and how many hours ago. On individual comments I wish it would have the “running number” on each comment like it used to, especially when looking through bunch of comments on a post like this, knowing “where you are” made it easier to navigate.
The grid view IS awesome, and will save a bunch of time!
These are just my opinions, I’m sure many of these issues will be resolved and many things will feel comfortable later on. I suggest a new post with this same topic in a couple of weeks or so, to see how people are feeling then and what might still need work! 🙂

Love the new look! I’m having an issue with Safari on mobile, runs fine not slow like other safari users but when I pick go to page 2 for instance; it loads at the bottom of page. So to see deals have to scroll up then down again. No biggy but I almost didn’t even notice the page had changed since I was at the bottom and it only showed a few lines of text. So might confuse some. Hope you have a great night!!! 😊
