making air fryer donuts

Wake up – It’s time to make air fryer donuts!

What if I said that you can make warm and delicious homemade donuts, as a genius breakfast idea, in just five minutes using your air fryer?! Yep, they are that quick to make and are definitely worth getting out of bed for.

This is one of my favorite air fryer recipe ideas, and I hope your family loves it, too! It results in a yummy batch of flaky, warm donuts that taste delicious, yet are so low effort.

These five-minute donuts are a fun, once-in-a-while treat that my kids get so excited for!

Tips for making yummy air fryer donuts:

    • The secret to these super-fast, magical donuts is store-bought biscuit dough, such as Pillsbury Grands! I make these using my beloved Power Air Fryer XL, which I use just about every day in the kitchen!
    • Use a small biscuit cutter or a shot glass (or even a plastic disposable medicine cup – that’s what Collin used!) to cut holes in the middle of each biscuit. Don’t forget to cook all your donut holes at the end, too!
    • We usually top ours with butter and then powdered sugar or a cinnamon/sugar mixture. You could also create a sweet glaze by mixing 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons of milk and a splash of vanilla extract. Dip the tops in the glaze after air frying and let dry for a bit before enjoying. SO good!

air fryer donuts recipe

These air fryer donuts are super yummy!

My family loves this hack to make donuts as a special treat and I enjoy that they’re fun and easy to make. In fact, my kids always request these donuts on their birthdays, which I think is so funny as it’s such a simple idea. Enjoy!

I must try this!!! Thanks 😊

  2. Joni

I just got my instant pot air fryer lid for my 6 quart and made these this morning. I made a glaze with some milk, powder sugar and a dash of vanilla. Everyone but my daughter likes them. I didn’t have the flakey can biscuits on hand so I used regular. They were good but I do think the flakey ones will be even better…and my daughter may like them too. Thanks for the recipe!

  3. Court!

Tried these before! Easy and delicious!

  4. Stacy Grueser

    Just made these!! So delicious!!

  5. Kat9919

Just happen to have biscuits in the fridge! Going to try them tomorrow morning – thanks!!

Is there a coconut oil alternative? If we don’t have this?

    • ape82

Wondering the same thing. Can you use any oil?

      • Cindy Huggins

        I use cooking spray

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh I would just grease the basket with another oil so things don’t stick. 👍

  7. Eva

I Just got an air fryer oven for Christmas and can’t wait to try these looking forward to you posting more air fryer recipes

We found the biscuit dough to be too salty, which threw off the doughnut flavor. We usually use the small biscuits for beignets, so I may try one more time with those to see if that dough is less salty. They do cook fast and my 13 year old had fun making them. Fun idea!

This reminds of the donuts we used to make on camping trips when I was in Girl Scouts. We fried them in oil on the campfire (or charcoal grill) and dipped them in cinnamon sugar shortly after removing from hot oil. To borrow a phrase : “Mmm mmgood!”

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Awesome! Yes I’ve heard of these for camping too ❤️

  10. Becky White

These are like the canned biscuit donuts we made in Girl Scouts; cut a press out and cut acanned biscuit into quarters, roll it out then form into a ring and fry in hot oil, dip hot donut in cinnamon sugar. A quick and delicious breakfast treat on a campout! Inexpensive, too!

  11. Medworldis

You had me at 5 minutes. ?? I still haven t gotten an air fryer but this may have pushed me over the edge. ha ha ha Pinning and printing. Thanks for sharing! #embracingchangelinky

  12. Jeanie

my airfryer does not have a baskey. can I just put them o the racks

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yep, that works also!

  13. Dorothy Nelson

should you pre-heat the air fryer at 350* before you put the “donuts” in?

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I usually do not preheat my air fryer – you can if you want though!

  14. Cheri

We tried these this morning and we didn’t think they tasted like a donut. They tasted like a biscuit with a hole in the middle.

    • Amber

Yup. With some sugar on them? Ha. I was hoping for a healthier recipe too.

  15. LaDonna

Every time I see this recipe and see everyone’s love for it I think what did I miss lol I made this once and thought they just tasted like can biscuits with icing on them.

  16. Cindy

We tried them a few days ago. We decided that they weren’t anything we would make again.

  17. Amy

I still make the real fryer version of these occasionally. Delicious! A nice tip… the cap of a water bottle makes a pretty perfect hole too!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh I love that tip! Thanks Amy!

  18. Ap927

I used to make these all the time as a kid in cooking oil, so I was excited to try them with my kids in the air fryer a few months ago. Major fail. They tasted like biscuits with cinnamon and sugar on them instead of donuts.

  19. Keshia

I thought we were the only ones who used a medicine bottle to cut the holes out! We fried them up too! Brings back some
    Great childhood memories ❤️

  20. Patricia Lavenz

Maybe I will break down and open my air fryer. Still haven’t and I have had it for months. LOL

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      What??!!! YES. It’s amazing!

  21. Patricia Lavenz

My mother used to make donuts like this all the time but she did it the old fashioned way. I will see how it goes this weekend.
