Oh heck no. Goodbye. Just got off phone with customer service. I waited WEEKS for a book, it hasn’t shipped yet and they dropped the price by half. I asked for a credit not refund and they told me to cancel the book I’ve waited weeks for and reorder again (it’s on indefinite backorder) and I said no sorry, I’m supposed to get it this week and you want me to wait again, and return one to reorder!? Just no. I’m done. Target, Walmart and Kohl’s have really stepped up their game. Bye Amazon.

    • Trisha

I agree with you! Their CS has gone down hill. When my items would be late they would offer a free month added to my prime or a $5 credit or something like that and they no longer do that. They don’t care cuz Amazon is guzzling all the money. After my year is up I won’t be supporting them either.

      • Cw

Yes I never got that free month I got a $5 credit once, all the other times they did nothing.

  2. Carmen

Hmm… Right now, I won’t. My shipments are always late. Just last night a package was dropped off at 9:30 pm. Last week, a package was three days late. It’s annoying. $119 is crazy high!

    • Cw

I concur. I’ve had 6 late of maybe 30 so far this year!

    • michelle

My packages haven’t been late but the estimated delivery times are later now. Ordered some items yesterday morning. Estimated delivery is for Tuesday. I was very curious as to why. Usually it’d be here Saturday, many times Sunday. But definitely for Monday at the latest. 🤷🏿‍♀️

  3. Jamie

Wow! Raising it again so soon???

    • Mandyand1

The rate has been the same since 2014.

      • amanda

They just posted record profit and declared they have a very high number of prime members. That’s saying something. I think they’re getting too big for their britches. I may cancel all of my Amazon services. 🤔

  4. Trisha

If your memberships renews before that date you will lock in your current rate without an increase for a year. that’s the only way around it. mine will stay at $49 for student rate.

    • LadyBoh

With the student account can you mail to multiple addresses or only the student’s address? Can amazon emails be sent to an alternate email even thought you provide and edu email for stud t confirmation?

      • Trisha

Yes. You can send to multiple addresses and I changed my email to my gmail account. You only have to sign up with the .edu email then you can change it 🙂

  5. LSW98

I am certainly disappointed to hear this! Unfortunately I will cancel my membership!

  6. Debbie in PA

Probably not. I do not take advantage of all the free things, and i guess i will just be more selective of what i buy and make sure i have a big enough order for free shipping.

    • Debbie in PA

I should add that idon’t care if it gets here overnight or in a week. There’s nothing that I get that’s urgent so 2 day shipment isn’t a priority for me. It’s nice, but idon’t really care that much.

      • Gj

We canceled our prime about half a year ago and I just wait till I have over $25 to get free shipping. It’s interesting because it says it won’t arive for 5-7 but more then not it comes in 2 days! They really try to get you to sign up. Oh and when you checkout they always have extra shipping charges so you have to go to the shipping and change it to free shipping

  7. Sandy

    Not cool Amazon!

  8. C4c-mom

Absolutely! I still save so much money in shipping and have had a very good experience with great customer service when necessary. The fact that I don’t have to lug my dog food from store to car to home—-and it shows up at my door, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    • Cassandra

If you decide to drop Amazon in the future I’ve had great experience with Chewy.com

    • Jaime

Chewy.com has excellent customer service and free shipping on $49+. You should give them your business instead! You’ll still get your dog food delivered to your door!

  9. liz

Ibotta has $20 back on prime now. Might be worth it

    • MaymeV

How do you DO that? 😳

      • eyez

MaymeV, you have to purchase a yearly prime membership thru the ibotta app. New memberships only. You’ll receive a $20 Amazon gc

  10. ToriSC

‘‘Twas expecting it to go up since they increased the monthly fee. I use the 2 day shipping way too often not to renew especially with a kid in college. The 2 day shipping & savings on some of her text books makes it worth it for at least another year.

    • Mom22

College students get a membership for $49 a year. You might want to have your kid get the membership. We got 6 months free, then was charged $49. Just a thought ☺️

  11. 🤔

Oh that’s cool, so a month or so ago, they offer free membership to people who cannot afford it, and now those that pay for their membership have to pay more. Coincidence? I think not 😐

    • MommySpendsLess

      Like!

    • Trinity

It’s discounted, not free. That program has been around for a while.

    • Laura DealSeeker

Totally agree. Not cool at all.

    • nurselex

      Agreed!

    • em

I have to say I agree with this. I could use a discount too. $120 is very high for me. Very unfair.

    • KMHL

      AGREED!!!

    • Wren

      Agree

  12. Danielle

I’m still under my 30 day trial for Amazon prime, it was set to charge my acct $99 on May 7th, if I don’t cancel. Will I be charged the $99, since it’s before May 11th, and then come next May be charged the $119?

    • Mima

Yes Danielle, that is the way I understand it.

  13. Susan Crawford

Now I definitely will not renew. $119.00 per year is too much. I can get the same type of deals at Walmart, Target, Dollar Tree, CVS, Walgreens, Kohls, Macys, I would rather shop more locally and all these stores are within 10 minutes from my house. Sorry Amazon, your increase is not within my budget. I expect Walmart, Target and Kohls to really step up their advertising to take advantage of people not wanting to pay this increase.

  14. MommySpendsLess

Hmmm… I got Prime for Christmas and ended up keeping it (surprisingly) for the music. The streaming video and free shipping is just a bonus I use occasionally. I’ll probably keep it for now but if they increase it much more I probably won’t. Maybe If they stopped offering such generous discounts for special groups (students, low income, etc.) they wouldn’t have to repeatedly raise the price for their regular customers. I would also like to see them split up the services – separate prices for video, shipping, music, etc. maybe with discounts if you bundle them. That way consumers could purchase the services they want without paying extra for things they don’t use.

  15. Peaches

Nope. Every time I order with “two day” shipping it gets here “on time” in 5 days. Interesting math they do.

    • Raea

      Lol 😂

    • Rockstar

This. I never get anything within 2 days anymore.

    • Erica

Yes! All of a sudden if I order on Thursday, the prime “free two-day shipping” will be delivered on Monday or Tuesday. Booo

      • susan h

That’s because it’s BUSINESS days, not actual days. Ordering on Thursday, Monday would be correct for 2 days. If you order late day Thursday it probably will be Tuesday. They are not wrong.

        • Emily

My deliveries come on Saturday and Sunday(usps) too. You can set your preferences to include these days, i believe.

        • Rochelle

“Business days” is relative to the carrier Amazon opts to use to deliver a particular item – I get prime deliveries often on Saturday and occasionally on Sunday. What’s become an issue for me is the “handling” time (i.e., how long it takes to actually leave the warehouse). That’s a distinction that isn’t entirely clear to most customers and seems to be ever increasing with my orders. It’s getting pretty typical for me to order something on Wednesday, but the package won’t show up until the following Tues or Weds. I don’t live in the boonies. Further, I notice that on a product description it might say, “order within the next X hours and receive it by X date.” But after I submit the order and get my confirmation email, and the email says “estimated date” or simply “arriving” and may or may not match up with the date that was advertised. The emails used to regularly say “guaranteed date.” It’s very misleading.

    • Jill

      Me too

  16. Elizabeth Schmidt

I’m okay with the increase. Amazon employees are severely underpaid, and I’m praying trickle down economics will take place. I know the CEO just purchased a $25 million dollar home and is renovating it. If I continue to see articles about the high demand on the employees and low wages, I will not renew my Amazon subscription which sucks because I love Amazon Prime. With the amount of orders I place, $120 is honestly reasonable for same-day, and next-day shipping.

    • Sandra

I highly doubt that the employees will get much of an increase…. The CEO will get the most of it
I’m done with Amazon. Will not be renewing.

  17. kerRI

Just read they finally came out with their subscriber rate info. 100 million prime subscribers. Shameful to increase the price again. But until we back away they keep doing it.

  18. Jen

Being in a rural area, we LOVE having amazon. The fact our mail lady and ups man are will to drive it to us is even more awesome. They’ll still have us as customers 🙂 as for shipping delays, I’ve always been able to get a month extension on the membership easily- just email customer service.

  19. Heather

    Another read to shop local!

  20. nkis

    Nope

  21. mary

I was just thinking the other day – with all the stuff amazon provides me, I would easily pay twice what they charge – this will be unpopular on a money saving board – but I, key word is I, feel it is worth it – delivery is fast, prices are good, the programming is amazing for prime, and my music is with me always – and our alexa is a part of our family fabric. If there workers get a bit more pay then I am definately for it!!

    • Heather

I agree. I use Amazon in some capacity every single day. Worth it. Plus good kid shows on streaming.

  22. Heather

    Reason!!

  23. Janet

We have been Amazon Prime members for several years now, and are big fans of the company. I have no complaints about their service, and have never experienced trouble getting items shipped promptly. We will continue our membership. It is so convenient to order just about anything under the sun.

  24. CAROLINA MENDEZ

Well worth it for me. Specially with the savings I get on baby formula. And diaper deals.

    • JulieB

The formula and diapers are both so much cheaper than anywhere else. Two bulk orders of formula (when my babies were small), covered more than $119 savings.

  25. AJ

Jeff Bezos is sitting on billions. I think it’s very stupid to increase the fee. They have millions of customers so I do not see any reason for this extra charge. Just one rich man getting even richer. GREED MUCH!

    • Lindsay

Or maybe he’s paying his employees better.

    • ToriSC

Goes to show a lack of understanding- you only have Billions if you liquidate the company or your shares otherwise you only get your salary and any dividends that you pay to all shareholders.

  26. Mima

I’m not sure if I will renew when up for renewal next February or March. I have gotten two extra months this year due to late shipments (thank you Paribus), but I am not sure if it is worth it long run. We have a warehouse in Phoenix so it is very rare for me not to get things in 2 days. I think I might use Amazon more BECAUSE I have Prime so I may actually save money from NOT having the temptation to overspend.

    • Allisun

Was thinking the exact same thing!!! 🤔

  27. LR

I have mixed feelings about Amazon. They are very fast to respond to emails and fix any problem almost immediately, but their employees often don’t even speak Enligh correctly and don’t seem to understand my emails. 2-day shipping is rarely that. More like 3 or 4 day. Which is frustrating when you’re being sold something else. But I don’t believe that Target, Kohl’s or Walmart are doing things any better. They don’t offer even a 10th of what Amazon does (in amount and variety of products) and now even Walmart has third party sellers that often cause more problems than not.

What I’m seeing is that all these companies are stooping so low and turning into some sort of Ebay, where you really don’t know what you’re getting at all. I’ve got nothing against Ebay, but I always enjoyed having the choice: Ebay was for cheap, not-always-great-quality and often used items, Amazon was for good quality (with great reviews) items that you could trust. Not anymore.

  28. Cara

Amazon closed a lot of people’s accounts last month and said it was due to TOS violation. My account was caught up in that debacle and they later said that I didn’t violate the TOS but that my account was closed because of suspicious activity. I cancelled my Prime membership when that happened. I don’t know if they were hacked or what suspicious activity was occurring but their customer service was lacking throughout all of that. I enjoyed shopping with Amazon but I can usually find things cheaper by shopping around anyway

    • Wonderjules

What is TOS violation? I’ve heard of them dropping people for too many returns. I used to get great customer service but now not so much.

      • Cara

Amazon said that people were leaving reviews for items that they received for free or at a discounted price which violated their TOS. They also said that there was suspicious activity on a lot of accounts. The whole thing was odd

  29. Sara

I renew on June 15th. Made it by one day! I will be keeping Prime for another year. That being said, here is my long-winded rant. You have been warned.

The 2-day shipping claim is a joke. When I joined in 2011, if I ordered Monday morning I would get the item Wednesday afternoon. Now if ordering on Monday morning the item will arrive Friday or Saturday. Also, everything comes by USPS now, unless I choose 1-day shipping. From 9/2011 until 11/2014, everything came by UPS or FedEx.

I don’t watch prime video. I can get all of the things they have on Netflix or Hulu. I don’t give a crap about original programming on any service.

My WSJ email cited a larger library of streaming music as one of the reasons for the price increase. Amazon must be adding all of those new songs to the extra fee unlimited version of prime music. They are also taking away songs from the included music service and putting them in the extra fee music service. I will stuck with the service I am already paying for.

Prime Pantry is a joke now. The prices are already higher to begin with. It is no longer $5.99 per box. Now it is $4.99/month for free shipping on orders over $40 or a flat $7.99 shipping fee for a single order regardless of size. The $6 credit for buying 5 select items or for choosing no-rush shipping no longer covers the Prime Pantry shipping fee.

  30. Tolu

Hell na! After almost 10 years, this is goodbye. At least, I’ll save money from not shopping on Amazon

  31. Lindsay

I share prime with 9 family members and have for years now. If you can completely trust your immediate family members than I highly suggest that.

  32. sara

Hmmm…my prime account auto-renewed yesterday @ $99/year and my account indicates that it will auto-renew on 4/25/19 for $99.

    • Sara

It might say $119 on May 11th or June 16th. The price increase hasn’t gone into effect yet.

  33. kait

Dang, this is such a hard one.

I think I will probably end up canceling our annual sub, and just doing a few monthly subs around holidays? I’m not sure if we order enough per month to justify it??? We’re probably right on the verge. Sigh. 🤦🏼‍♀️

    • Anna

That’s a great idea- just do the monthly ones around Christmas when you are ordering the most. THx!

  34. Luv

Does this apply to student prime membership too?

    • Sara

Prime Student is going up to $59 a year.

      • Sara

The student price increase goes into effect at the same time as the regular membership increase.

  35. rpearson

I knew an increase was coming when they started offering Prime to people on welfare. I understand that they should enjoy things too but I see Amazon Prime as a luxury and now I have to pay more. Kinda rubs me wrong.

    • Kcmiami

Uhh, never heard the increase had anything to do with thAt

      • jenn

well, someones gotta pay for that discount and i’m sure as heck it’s not the CEO….

        • Reyna

Doubtful. As much as they bring in, they don’t need anyone to pay for the discount. If they couldn’t afford to offer it, they wouldn’t.

    • Amy

      Exactly! ^ :-/

  36. Karen

The increase is to help offset their 2nd headquarters they plan on building

  37. Kcmiami

Dealing with their CS is a nightmare!!

  38. holls

Ugh, mine just renewed but next year I may forgo. They keep adding benefits but taking away my favorite ones. The diapers you have to have 5 items to get the discount where it use to be one so it’s cheaper to buy them from target with no membership fee.

  39. Kristy

I will more then likely cancel my membership as it’s no longer 2 day shipping it sometimes takes a week just to get my items.

  40. Dkp91576

I use so many Amazon features, it pays for itself. I always get my 2nd day shipping within 1 day but I live 15 min from NYC. But I prefer to ship slow and get the credits towards movie rentals or books. If I am not happy with the product or it arrives damaged, they usually just give it to me for free. The increase doesn’t bother me.

  41. Mary

I am cancelling Amazon Prime and stick to s&s. In case of need, I will wait until my shopping cart scores free shipping.

  42. momof4

I wish it would start including free shipping for prime pantry with the increase

  43. nankatfog

I’m not a Prime member because I can’t justify paying $99 a year. That being said I buy my dogs food on Amazon & Wal-mart. Tried to order the dog food as I did 2 weeks ago and now it says the dog food is “Exclusivley for Prime Members”. HUH? Their price is the same as Wal-Mart, Chewy, Jet, Tracror Supply…with 2 day shipping. Welp that did it for me with Amazon.

  44. Maureen Ruble

I have been a Prime member for 10 years and once this year runs out in early 2019, it will be my last. It was barely worth the price of $99 and certainly not for the price increase. I will keep my Subscribe & Save and find alternative shopping sources. Walmart.com seems to be stepping up their game. Now is the time for them to really go after unhappy customers like myself with more great deals.

  45. Thankful

I do better with SWYR points at Kmart/Sears, Dollar Tree, Target stacking deals, the occasional CVS/Wags deal and outlet stores. Amazon has lost its’ focus– the customers.

  46. Jessica

Haha $1.67 extra a month… Yeah I’m good with that Amazon.
    Prime shipping
We live in the city so 2 hour delivery
Amazon book store at the mall.
Gladly pay to keep my benefits.

  47. Doglover

    Love amazon so YES !!

  48. GotItTogetherish

I’m not paying $119. It’s not worth it for me.

  49. SuperDawn

I’ve been Prime since the beginning back in 2005 – And have been completely happy with my service! But I use a lot of the benefits by downloading my free books each month, watching prime original video content, free shipping several times a month and more during the holidays, and I still have three other people (family in different states – we used to leave all together! lol) connected to my account so it’s hard to say I would give that up for a measly extra $20 per year.

  50. pokwang

nope!… theres amazon warehouse 2 miles away from me… walmart at 1 mile…same prices with amazon…1 yr free hulu from sprint.. flickr for my picture autouploads… so i dont need prime anymore…byebye!!!
