I love the drain rooter. It works great to pull up hair, which is what clogs our drains. It is a messy job but much cheaper and healthier than the chemicals you can buy to push the yucky guck down the drain. I also really like the all purpose cleaner. I found that the lids on the 2-pack magnetic tins don’t stay on well, so I keep them on top of my fridge with push pins and nails in them. They have a bigger size which are 1 for $1 and the lids are much stonger and can go on the side of my fridge without the lids slipping off.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh awesome! I haven’t tried the drain rooter yet! Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

      • Julie

I didn’t like the Drain Rooter. I only got a few strands of hair using it, and found my re-purposed Chinese takeout wire handle works so much better, so ymmv.

(I bought an extra plunger that I’ve labeled SINK and store in the basement for non-toilet use.)

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! Thanks a ton for sharing your experience, Julie! Right now we also have an extra plunger just for the sink!

    • Harvest

I love the drain rooter too!! It’s gross, but this thing works GREAT at removing hair!! (The same sells for $4 at other retailers!) I’m always amazed at how much hair accumulated in the drain.

  2. Cindy

Lots of good ideas, but it seems like your DT has such different items than my DT. I could not find the large Crazy Glue (only small single use tubes) or the Magnetic tins or the Awesome cleaner or the plunger or the salad dressing container. I will have to check some of the other DTs near me, but you scored some neat items!

    • Erin

I personally prefer the tiny tubes, I actually get more use from them. After opening a full size , it usually hardens Around the opening before I need it again. I end up with it all over my fingers trying to make it usable again.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing, Cindy! I do find that the inventory can vary by store. Also, I have found that some items are not continuously in stock in my store and I have to head in frequently to grab some of my favorite finds. Hope that helps!

  3. mom2two

I want to know more about Mary’s Impress nails!

    • Mary (Stellar Sidekick)

Hi mom2two! Several of us on the team love the impress nails! 😍 In fact, you can see Jami sporting them in many of our photos. 😊 They’re affordable (can get a pack for under $4 if you shop the sales on their site – or you can find them at Walmart, Target, etc) and they last about a week or more! Hope that helps! 😀

      • Jess

I love these nails! They’re amazing, and great price. I find they last about a week also. I’ve never found a press on that stated on like these! I like the short ones, they feel so natural!

        • Sara

I would like to know how you keep them on. I know they have adhesive but do any of y’all use glue for longer use and if so what brand?

  4. Cassie

Haha, we were in DT yesterday and my husband picked up the drain snake and I was like “nah, we don’t need that.” I guess we need that. 😁

  5. ashley

Those wall hangers lasted about a day before Falling down

    • Jess

Really? I got them for Christmas stockings and mine RIPPED A HOLE IN MY WALL! I was so mad haha I’m always sticking to Command brand now!

      • Arlene

I’ve had great luck with them on wood shelves in my classroom.

      • just me

I agree! I would NEVER use those wall hangers again. They took the paint off my wall. I will only use Command brand also. I had to paint my entire wall because of them. I’m all for off brand things but be warned these could ruin your walls

  6. CM

Love the salad dressing containers! Great for meal prep, easy to use!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

I agree! We have loved those for lunches! Thanks for the feedback, CM!

  7. Deb E

I bought several of the the Essentials storage containers in brown and like them but if you’re sensitive to chemical smells, you’ll want to take them out of the plastic wrapping and air them out in another room or preferably outside for a good while. They are sturdy and don’t smell after they’ve off-gassed for a time. Also along with the glues, I recently found Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue, 3 fl oz (I first purchased years ago at the fabric store) for fabrics and all-purpose adhesive, and it sells for $4 to $5 at craft/fabric stores and Amazon.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the warning and the helpful tip! Good to know!

  8. CM

Storage bags also great- amazing quality!

  9. Jen s.

I just found a GREAT makeup organizer at DT. They’re actually small square (3″) containers that come in 3 packs and made by cooking concepts (near the measuring cups). I chose dark gray, and only spent $2. They supposedly hook together but I didn’t have great success with that. It looks so much nicer when they’re grouped together organizing my makeup (instead of all tossed into a basket!)

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Ooh! I’ll have to look for those! Thanks for sharing!

  10. Jodi P

Those salad dressing containers would be great for lotions, shampoo, cleanser, toner, etc for your purse or travel.

  11. Josie

I need to move to your state. You have the best Dollar Tree! All Dollar Trees near me are dirty and very poorly stocked…nothing worth buying. Same with your Targets. You have large selections of items when you post photos. Here, there is much less to choose from – and hardly any household clearance items. The dollar spot at front of the stores is the worst! Nothing like the ones you picture.

    • Lori

      Same here.

    • Beth

I don’t think Dollar Tree has a dollar spot because EVERYTHING is a dollar…are you thinking of Family Dollar? Like the Dollar Tree Dollar Spot at Family Dollar stores? Because Family Dollars are awful!

      • mel

She’s talking about the dollar spot at Target.

  12. Amy

With two girls in my house (that never clean their dried-up toothpaste out of their sinks!) I totally need that sink plunger! We are always getting clogged sinks! I wonder if some of these items are regional… I don’t think I’ve seen those at my DollarTree.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Ah! We have the same sink issue with my kiddos! The dried toothpaste makes me crazy! LOL!

      • Lou

I poor a cup of hot bleach water down my drains once a week. Haven’t had to buy drain o or had a clogged sink In 2 years. That may not work for all but I do it to all my drains.

        • Amymae1100

Septic guy said bleach is the worst thing for septic systems. Also the earth lol

  13. Beth

LA’s Totally Awesome has been my favorite cleaning product for over a decade! It’s magical! Baby poop stains are no match for Awesome. Neither is basically any other kind of stain. And I use it to scrub our lifetime tables – makes them like brand new! If vinegar can’t do the job, I immediately reach for Awesome!

    • Cheryl

Awesome is the BEST! I have been using it for more than a decade too! Great for stains-also try Awesome when you have a sticker that won’t release.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re right! It sure is helpful in cleaning up SO many messes! Thanks for sharing your experience, Beth!

  14. Shannon

Does dollar tree sell key chains? I really need some cute inexpensive ones.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes they do! Be sure to check the racks near the front of the store OR the car & cell phone accessories aisle. Hope that helps!

  15. marci

We used the plungers for relay races at are school for an event. We flip them upside down put a ball on top. You have to race down and back with out dropping the ball. First group to finish wins.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

What a fun idea! Thanks for the suggestion!

  16. Angi

I think she was talking about Target.

  17. Be Platt

Forget #4 and save your money. The adhesive for these is not good, especially anywhere that has temperature changes or extremes. If they’re used on a sunny window, the glue dries out very quickly.

  18. Vera

The sink plunger doesn’t work, FYI. The silicone is too thin, it stays pushed in with the first push. Do like the game idea for them someone commented though. Will have to try out the awesome cleaner too

  19. Amymae1100

Does anyone know what’s in the LA Awesome cleaner?

    • nin

No, but also curious. I agree it clean well, but the smell is so noxious-makes me cough every time

  20. Rhonda Welborn

I tried several of the vacuum storage bags, I even resealed one of them with clear tape around the sides an bottom sucked it down and then taped the top.. So all 4 sides were taped and they still filled back up with air. So I ended up buying some off Amazon, but haven’t tried them out yet.
