Starbucks Rewards Program Changes are Here | More Payment & Rewards Options
Heads up, Starbucks Rewards Members!
Starbucks has officially rolled out its new rewards program! With this new rewards system, Starbucks Rewards Members can now earn 1 star per $1 spent using cash, debit, credit card, Apply Pay, or Google Pay! That’s right, you can now earn stars without using the Starbucks Gift Card through the app!
Plus, now you can register for Starbucks Rewards without preloading a Starbucks Card!
Prefer to pay using your registered Starbucks Gift Card? Rewards members still earn 2 stars for every $1 spent using a registered gift card and you will still be able to redeem your points at different levels for various items.
Even sweeter, if you have the Starbucks Rewards Visa Credit Card, you will earn 3 stars for every $1 spent!
You will be able to use this new feature in-store, in the drive-thru, or through the mobile order system! When you go to pay in-store or in the drive-thru, you will hit “scan” in the app, and you will have two tabs for “Scan & Pay” or “Scan Only”. If paying with another payment method other than your Starbucks Card, you will hit “Scan Only”. Scan your QR code, then pay however you wish!
When mobile ordering, you will see a drop-down under “payment” that will show you which methods you can choose and how many stars each would give you! That easy!

- Redeem 200 Stars – Get a lunch sandwich, salad or protein box for free
- Redeem 400 Stars – Get packaged coffee or a single merchandise item for free (up to $20 value)

Lucky for me I love simple. Home brewed or Wawa.
I just moved near a Wawa and they are the BEST. I’ve cut my starbucks runs by 95% (I used to go 1-2 wk and I’ve gone 2x in 3 months). I much prefer Wawa as a company. They give loyal customers great perks and so far they haven’t taken any away (giving you the Stink Eye, Starbucks). Lol
In my area they open them right across the street from Wawa and usually go out of business.
They had one in an acme-went out of business years ago.
They recently rebuilt it at the bottom of the acme shopping center.
Small business does not have the luxury of making the same mistake twice.
I will give it a year to go under. A wawa is a block away!

I don’t think you earned stars before if you didn’t pay with the app or your “registered” gift card. So I think what’s new is that you can earn stars when using other methods of payment?
Correct, now you earn points with different payment methods. Although you only earn 1 star per $1 with other payment methods and you earn 2 starts per $1 with a registered gc on the app.

Yep – it’s the same thing Dunkin changed not too long ago. Just scan your app and pay any way.
That is the new part! But you earn less if you pay those ways… but nice to have a second option

Again?! Last time they changed I lost so many benefits and I never seemed to get double stars anymore or my birthday reward (they used to give you all month to redeem it), It’s just too much hassle now.

Yes, sometimes Coz now it’s only valid that same day Like I couldn’t get my free birthday item coz I was fasting that day 🙁
When you’ve been gold forever and you are used to the program and offers, and you go from having all month to redeem your birthday reward to only one day (if you remember)…….yes it’s a hassle. I used to get double points, free drinks all sorts of stuff, now it’s very slim. Every time they change it seems to be for their benefit.
