One reader gets the most for her money by taking advantage of warranties.

Why throw out a useful product just because it’s having some hiccups? Many times the company will fix or replace it for you. This week’s Happy Friday reader, Justina, makes sure she gets her money’s worth. So many of the products we buy come with warranties and Justina puts them to good use! 💰 Here’s how she does it and also which warranty she thinks is best!

“Best warranty that I love: Shark vacuums! For $25 shipping of the replacement, they fix just about anything during the warranty period and send a shipping label to send them the damaged item. We have now (and gifted one out new to my sister) a total of 6 Shark vacuum/mops. We’ve used the warranty maybe 3 times over 10+years — very satisfied!”

“Once though, they sent us the wrong color replacement hose after the guy guaranteed it would be the right color, lol, over and over he reiterated, lol. Think they sent an ENTIRE new vacuum to replace that (it was QVC/HSN special color item).

And the best [vacuum]…I kinda stopped using others once I got the SHARK CORDLESS, we have 2 others that I love, but this Cordless, ohmyGosh! If a cordless has suction, cordless, long battery life, or an extra battery–love it!”

“Have saved a couple of people on Facebook Trash&Treasure from selling broken Sharks to whoever can fix them at discounted prices. When the ladies found out about the $25 warranty, they were SOO happy! Another lady had like a Dirt Devil Walmart and just needed a vacuum belt. So many people don’t know to just replace the belt!”

Thanks for this great reminder to use our warranties, Justina! You’ve saved yourself – and others – a bundle! 🙌  Instead of making an unnecessary purchase in buying a replacement, you only paid $25 in shipping and had Shark foot the rest of the bill! This is an excellent money-saving tip!

Interested in learning more about Shark vacuums?

Like Justina, the Hip2Save team loves our Shark vacuums! Readers do too! When we asked readers about their favorite vacuums, Shark was mentioned time and time again.

Check out some of this feedback we received:

“I have a Shark Navigator, and love it. It works better than any vacuum that I’ve owned before.”

“Shark Rocket. Three years after buying it, it still picks up dog hair from 2 dogs like a champ. Is light enough to navigate 3 floors of my house and handles stairs perfectly.”

“Any SHARK vacuum is well worth the price!”

“I have a Shark Rotator Lift-Away for about 2 years now. I am very happy with it, great suction. Accessories are available if wanted. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.”

“Shark! I have two, the Rocket and Navigator Lift-Away, and they are both incredible! Easy to clean, easy to carry and store! Both are great with pet hair!”

For more information on their warranties, visit Shark’s website. Not only do these vacuums have excellent suction, but they’re so easy to clean. They come in several different varieties including robot vacuums, upright vacuums, handhelds, vacuum/mop combos, and cordless.

To get the most out of Justina’s tip, make sure to check for warranties on other products too. For example, Nike has a pretty great warranty and if you use it correctly, you might just get your shoes replaced. Sara recently tested the Nike warranty process and wrote a post all about it!

Every bit of savings counts, so thank you so much, Justina, for sharing your advice! ❤️ It’s so easy to forget that many of our common household products come with warranties! Your practical tip is sure to help save other readers some hard-earned cash – myself included!

People sometimes forget that sometimes when an item is purchased with a credit card, that the warranty may be extended on items beyond a normal manufacturer’s warranty. I’ve had to do this before after the manufacturer’s warranty had expired, and after going through my credit card, I was able to get the item replaced. Took some time and need receipts, but it works.

Great suggestion, Liz! Thanks for sharing this tip about checking into the terms with your credit card. 🙌 Glad to hear you’ve had luck replacing items this way. ❤️

I always forget when I have warranties. Recently I remembered a few and got items replaced free. Rubbermaid brilliance replaced multiple containers for me recently.

That’s great that you were able to remember a few recently and were able to get those items replaced, Tricia! 🙌💕

The best part is that this process reduces waste. Fixing a vacuum is way better than throwing it away.

    • Justina

yes! I love that! and hopefully they sell refurbished used vacuums from the working parts in discount stores or donate the rebuilds to charities or sell them to employees at a discount–love it–reduce waste!
