Wow! Your comment sure brought a smile to my face! I am so lucky to have such wonderful readers. Thank you for the kind words and for brightening my morning. ๐
I use to do the same thing with the fruit and veg. Just an idea if your kiddos like to lose tupperware is to buy the 4oz or 6oz containers with lids at GFS or Sams Club and send them in the lunches. I found it to be alot cheaper than replacing my tupperware all the time. People laugh at me all the time for doing this. I buy tons of things this way though only makes sense.
So true! Also tomato and pineapple will etch plastic (tho not glass, i.e., jars!), so I either use the tossables (good for dozens of uses still) or maybe something reusable, like the containers from another product, such as lunchmeats, frostings, dips, etc.
Thanks so much for this video. I do have a question; How does the savings come into play when you do get the items at the local grocery and use a coupon to that of the larger ones at Costco? Is it still work the extra work and containers?
I meant to say the items at the store on sale and with a coupon. Sorry. Thanks.
Hi Michelle, it still works out a bit better to shop at the Wholesale Clubs. Also, I personally have a hard time finding coupons for canned goods… especially the ones I highlight in the video. And if they are available, they seem to be pretty low in value.
For some or all of these items can’t you use the canning method with the mason jars to make it last longer?
You could definitely do that! ๐
I have been doing this for a while and am glad to be in such good company! Premeasuring is a great idea I will adopt.
Pineapple would freeze well and be delicious in smoothies or yogurt. I buy yogurt in large containers at the warehouse club and plunk a scoop in smaller cups (adding my own fruit, usually frozen) to take to work. I line the cups up Sunday night and get the whole week’s cups done at once, for one-time clean-up.
Also peel and freeze extra bananas as they are getting too brown. They blend perfectly for smoothies, banana bread/muffins, etc.
The lean ground meat is often a good deal at warehouse clubs, but it must be used ASAP. I don’t like frozen raw ground beef. So I pre-brown the extra meat (w/ basic onion, garlic, salt, pepper) and put that in a freezer bag in the freezer, so on spaghetti/chili night, I have both the tomato part and the meat part all ready to go. Just tweak the seasonings and extra ingredients on the stovetop (basil/garlic vs. cumin/chili seasoning/black beans/peppers), and make the noodles/rice.
Cheap warehouse bulk foods are a no-brainer when considering the value of our time — our most valuable resource.
